well, for me there is a difference between plant 1 with budswelling and plant 2 without .
plant 1 with budwelling = 615 gr wet (buds feel compact and heavier )
plant 2 without
= 535 gr wet
i must say i had mold on plant 2 and had to cut of a big bud 2weeks ago so that can be 20 grams lost in defence of plant without.
plant 1 was also 20 cm bigger so cab also be a difference in result.
so it makes a difference in my opinion to do the budswelling and i will be experimenting with it in the future to see if the difference continious between with or without.
but it's also got to do with genetics on the Royal gorilla the difference is there but not as much like on the C. Banana those buds got a lot bigger!
UPDATE FINAL DRY WEIGHT:
royal Gorilla with budswelling = 130gr
Royal Gorilla without budswelling = 128 gr
So on the C;Banana it makes a big difference and on the royal gorilla no effect about the same weight with or without.
maybe it works better on Sativa's ? let's do some more experiment in the future Cheers.
i know it looks aggressive and a lot of people are scared to do it. But i thought let's try it :-) and on my ultimate i think it worked but you are never sure because i can't compare it to another. so that why i only did it on 1 plant of each strain to see if it makes a difference.
C.Banana is a starin that can triple his size in bloom. so it's a hard strain to control.
Great harvest despite the mold! It appears your budswelling technique really worked! I saw a few Canadian videos that used the same technique. Those growers had a different name for it though. I can't remember the name, but they swore by it.
Are you going to take the winter off, or try to adapt your set up? I think I can grow this winter, but I'm not going to risk my expensive seeds. I have some bagseed, prize seeds, and dispensary seeds I can use.
@Bluesbreeder,2 Grams is 2 Grams. As you learn and perfect the technique I think the results will get better. You've already learned that this works best on Sativas. Maybe try it on a few hybrids next time.
Overall a great harvest! Gratz!
@Quexos,royal gorilla results :
130 gr budswelling
128 gr no budswelling does not seem to have any affect on this plant like more effect on a sativa.
But must say biggest harvest ever 480 gr total that's 1,7gr/Wat :-)
@Quexos,i was introduced to it by this website but it's in dutch and this guy tried it . he did not see it got a lot bigger but the trichomes production was a lot more on the treated bud then on the normal one. https://www.cnnbs.nl/maak-wiettoppen-harder-dikkermet-simpele-handeling/
i used it on the ultimate diary but did half of the plant and i had some big buds. and i did it on every bud on every plant in my Auto Cinderella jack diary and that made 433 grams of 4 plants in a 80/80/180 room with 270 Watts of QB's so it will be a combination i think with good lights and the budswelling that gave me my personal highest yield so far
@Quexos, you can find all info on the lights on this website where i bought them.
https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/kits
i have 2 x 135W QB V1 so now there a V2 that's even better. but they have problem with stock. the lights are very popular.
well yes it's stress to the plants and it should make the buds bigger and more trichomes but hey i think it works but i don't have prove but read some articles about it.
i just do it 1 time in week 3 or 4 but some keep doing this every week but i am scared to keep doing it :-)
@CRiSPrGrow, it made a lot of difference on the C Banana but almost none on the Royal Gorilla but overall a great harvest! will keep this experiment going for a few grows.
@CRiSPrGrow,well let's wait and see when i harvest them!
not sure but it's a jungle out there so i will document it with photo's to see if it's worth the trouble.
i will take pics of both plants with and without budswelling so we can compare .
but it will be better to take them out of the tent and check it before i cut them down.
Your girls look great! I'm glad you took care of the mold problem. You probably caught it in its early stages.
You figure on harvesting next weekend then? I think my Bubba's Gift is getting the chop at the same time. I love harvest days. You are going to be swimming in Sativa!
@Quexos,for me the same i have arround 70 seeds in my fridge and i can only put 4 in my tent in a 15 liter pot.
i'm thinking of doing some sea of greens just to use all seeds .
maybe i'm going to do experiment with 2 seeds in 1 pot.
i'm not sure what but i will see.
@Bluesbreeder, I'm blaming winter for me not being able to use my seeds. Trying to get seeds through customs is a crapshoot at best. I can't afford to lose my seeds to winter.
If you grow Bubba's, my idea is to manifold them to 8 tops then put them into flower. Based on what I saw letting it grow naturally, she will produce some serious buds if you focus her energy. You can also really fill up your tent because they barely stretch. I was going to grow all 4 of my remaining seeds when I get a chance.
Too many seeds, such a small tent!😥
@Quexos,yes i think next weekend . But if it takes longer i’m going to wait i really want them to be milkey all the way this time !
Good luck with your bubba’s gift got them also waiting to grow. I have to many seeds can’t grow them all :-)
@Bluesbreeder, I'm okay waiting for the trichomes to get all milky. I get antsy waiting for a few of the ambers to show up before harvesting. I always end up harvesting after losing patience after a few days.
I'll use your restraint and not harvest my Bubba's gift later this week. I know it needs more time, but I get all Edward Scissorhands.
@Quexos,patience is good if you want potent weed :-) and the buds need to fatten and trichomes need to get Milkey . have enough stash from previous grows so i have got time.
Man that was some explosive growth in one week! Weren't we patting you on the back last week for doing such an excellent job keeping their growth in check? I wonder what they would like like without any training? I hope they are about done. Even with training and supercropping, they are dangerously close to the lights.
@Quexos,i read the same thing about sativa's growing 3x higher when you put them in bloom. but the plants are also topped and the 2 side stems are going trough the roof. well i hope i stopped it from growing higher.
@Bluesbreeder, They've about doubled in height. I would think they would be done, but I was reading a journal the other day that had a 3x stretch growth! It wasn't your strains though. Supercropping will probably be enough, especially since you can raise our lights a bit more. Your lights have such a tiny profile! They are great!
Kinda makes me not want to sprout some of these full on sativa seeds that I have planned to grow. I only have around 5 feet of usable space.
Sorry to hear about your mold problem. Your tent is pretty packed. I guess you couldn't get enough circulation in that forest. I hope you didn't lose too much of your harvest. 😪
Do you think your temps/humidity is a factor? Your temps are getting pretty low and your humidity is pretty high in comparison. I'm worrying about the same thing for my next planned grow. Its going to start getting cold in the desert!
@Bluesbreeder, This is going to be my first winter growing. I'm going to do several things to help keep my plants safe. First, I'm going to insulate the bottom of the tent so its not sitting on the cold tile. Secondly, I will change my lights so they are on at night when its coldest. I will also put a ceramic space heater with a thermostat in the room where I keep my tent. My tent is too small for a heater, but the room is okay. I'll just set the thermostat to come on when it gets really cold. Finally, I think I will save my brand new, expensive seeds for the spring grow. I'm going to use mostly bagseed. If Winter is Coming I want to be ready!😉
@Quexos,hey well the humidity is lower i forgot to change it . It’s 50%
Well i have 2 little fans and 1 died on me last week. So maybe that’s the reason. And also it’s a jungle in my tent.
But i think the cold is the key factor .
When the light’s are off it’s getting 14 degrees celsius and that’s to low.
Well i can’t do nothing about it just one week of flushing and i cut her down. Hope the rest of the buds will be ok.
It’s time to grow some autoflowers now so incan leave the light on for 20 hours and get some heat from the lights . Winter is coming :-)
@Bluesbreeder, I agree. The one that wasn't pinched looks like it has larger buds. It's not a noticeable difference though. The real test will be at harvest though. Both plants are so similar that the budswelling might be the only difference between the two plants. Hopefully there will be a significant difference by then.
@Quexos,well the stalks are real spindly but like you said it's a good problem to have buds to be to big and heavy :-)
well i don't see a lot of difference for now looks like the one without swelling has bigger buds :-) hahaha if you see the photo of the 2 plants the one on the lift side is the one i did budswelling on. but let's wait and see what the end result will be.
i'm thinking of keeping this experiment going in future grows and try to experiment with it. seems fun to do.
@Bluesbreeder, I just can't believe that your Banana is still stretching!
I really want to see the outcome of the budswelling. I know you've seen and done it before, but its a pretty aggressive technique, and I really would like to see the outcome of your experiment before I do anything like that to my buds. My grow is several weeks behind yours. Depending on your results, I would have plenty of time to try that technique on my buds.
Look on the bright side, you are going to have one helluva lot of fresh buds in a bit. Soon, the jungle you call your grow tent will be just a smoky, hazy memory.
@Quexos,well the Royal Gorilla is doing normal as last time but the C.Banana is hard to control. and it grows like hell in flowering period Damn. typical sativa !!
well i'm not afraid of the outcome of the budswelling did it on 2 grows before and all ended well :-)
But i was thinking i will only do 1 plant of each strain so we can compare it on 2 strains . for me it's also to see if my feeling is right and the article i read about it. so i can compare it myself to see if it's worth the trouble.
are them lights alright without a cooling fan on? I know my 40watt runs super hot with one and my bigger one gets warm with the fan and without it would melt haha
@Darkgreenkid,hey well i know what the weed is about because my previous grow was the same strains and they are nice to smoke.
but not really 100% satisfied with the C. Banana as sativa.
the best sativa i have grown still is Liberty haze from barney's farm.
but next spring i will be trying Bruce Banner from zamnesia in search for the perfect sativa.
but yesterday smoked some fingerhash of the 2 strains together and it hit me quiet hard actually but it's potent weed both strains so no wonder :-)
Nice looking grow, Homie. Your eyesight is better than photographs. My journal photos are rarely what I see when I look into my tent. What do you think? Any difference? I think there might be a slight difference, but its hard to say since the plants grew a bit differently.
Still, this is a killer garden. Pat yourself on the back!
@Quexos,Well still don't see a lot of difference :-)
but i'm leaving the plants in the tent so i can't really check that well.
i have a small room and when i take the plants out i can damage them so the last weeks i don't move the plants anymore and let them stay in there place. i only rotate them from time to time but it's also hard now with the support sticks and also my tent is 80x80x180 so it's really small.but hey the harvests are always between 300 /400 grams so i ain't complaining :-)
But we will see in the end i will take all the plants out and try to document my end resluts comparing the 2 plants together and i can also check if there is a lot of difference in the yield at the end. and still that's not an exact science .
like you said the plants are growing differently but at the end we will get a better view if it's worth the trouble.
I can't see any evidence of your budswelling technique in this week's photos. She has completely recovered?
Even if you don't get a significant increase in yield due to this technique, I wouldn't call it a waste of time. Experiments are designed to improve quality and quantity. Sometimes they work really well, sometimes not so much. The buds will be a little bit bigger no matter what because you stressed them out. The real success will be if they grow a lot bigger!
Sorry about the problems with those darned sativas! I have a sativa grow planned for my next grow session and I'm not looking forward to it for the exact same problems you are having. Of course, looking at your photos, you have a few BIG problems and that is a good thing!
@Quexoswell it has to show at the end if they get fatter.
yes i don't see no signs of stress anymore.
well i read the article on a dutch site and he did it once like me in week 3 and his buds did not seem bigger but much more trichomes on buds with budswelling then without.
another article i read said you got to do this every week but i don't see myself doing it every week. think at the end of flowering you could get mold from this.
yes it's not that it's a real problem with the sativa's they are big but just for a nice spread of light it would be better they would have grown the same height.
Looking good thus far. I am growing 2 of these Royal 👑 Gorilla’s 🦍, and a Gorilla 🦍 Bomb 💣 in my garden at the moment that are 21 days into Veg. I just hacked them up starting to do a modified manifold which will extend my Veg by a week or two. I post bi weekly videos to my YouTube Channel. Check it out if you get a chance:

Your plants look very frosty and white outside the tent.
Were you able to salvage the stalks that broke a bit? That's the problem with growing indoors, spindly stalks! Fans aren't all that helpful either. If the current is too direct, it causes wind burn, and other problems. If the current isn't direct enough, it doesn't do any good! My 2 plants have really spindly stalks. I might have to do something similar when they start to get heavy.
Of all the problems you could have with a grow, I think buds being too big and heavy is by far my choice.
