Growth slowing down for some reason...could be the drop in humidity (hard to increase in the bigger tent) or the change in light schedule...but I'm also getting this weird leaf curling issue that I had with previous plants. I assumed it was a ph issue with the last plants but my ph is 6.5 here.
0.5 tbsp per gallon of 444 nutes
1 tbsp per gal of Organic Black Strap Molasses in water
Found some photos of wind burn online that looked eerily similar to my leaf curling issue, so I pulled back the small fan that was blowing directly on the Malawi and what do you know - my leaf curling issue resolved!
0.5 tbsp per gal of 444
1 tbsp of elemental for the Cal/Mag
1 tbsp per gal of Organic Black Strap Molasses in water
Welcome to the jungle! Malawi starting to pick up speed so I topped her and began some LST.

Growing like a beast this week! Will need to flip her to flower next week so I don't run out of room in the tent...

Flipped to 12/12 this week. Desperately trying to contain her before the stretch. Might need to set up SCROG soon...

Still bushing out and making sure the canopy is even. Think I'm starting to see flowering begin...it's been two weeks since I flipped the lights so should be any day now...

2 tbsp of elemental for the Cal/Mag

Starting to see some clawing...thinking this is too much nitrogen. Ace seeds does say to provide less nitrogen to the Malawi and my flower nutes don't really dial the nitrogen down from the veg nutes so this feels like a culprit more than other options. Will skip nutrients for the Malawi this week see what happens...
Seems like she's not liking the 4-8-4...too much nitrogen by the looks of it. So added just Seabird Guano and Langbeinite for P and K - I can't do the stupid math on the charts above but basically matched the P and K to what I was giving her with the 2.5 Tbsp of 4-8-4 in order to continue feeding while removing N for a week. We'll see if she bounces back
Noticed a bit of improvement having skipped the nitrogen for a week - the claw is definitely reducing. However, more Phosphorous deficiency symptoms have cropped up...probably a delayed onset - I'm guessing the Nitrogen toxicity locked out some Phosphorous...we're also in flower and this girl is hungry so that might have something to do with it. Needless to say, I've corrected too much N but now I have to correct too little P. I added back in the 4-8-4 for at least a little Nitrogen but keeping up the additional Seabird Guano and Langbeinite for the P-K boost...hoping I can dial this in appropriately so we'll have to wait and see.
Update - it's likely this one is experiencing predominantly Phosphorous deficiencies due to excess Calcium and Magnesium. I've determined that I've been giving all 4 plants in this run too much Cal/Mag and it's expressing itself in different ways with each plant. Too much Cal/Mag locks out P and K, among other micro nutrients, but the P deficiency is becoming the most obvious symptom in the Malawi. It's also pretty stunted and the leaf curling maybe was due to excess N but I'm not sure...could have been an expression of stress? It was literally the first sign something was wrong but I kept over feeding it and now a bunch of the older leaves are looking sad with major P deficiencies. I've flushed and the PPM was 2800...which is rather insane but it's a testament to the overdose I've unwittingly committed. I have faith in being able to right the ship, but I doubt I'll have the yield I expected 😞
She's responding well to the flushing and finally started taking off toward the end of the week. such a beast. I only worry about how the abuse will affect her terpene profile at the end - who knows and I'm no connoisseur so I'll prob never know the difference anyway. PPM is looking stable today so I'll prob reintroduce 4-8-4 and molasses next feeding and hopefully get back on track.
lots of defoliation this week - seems like she did not like the water spikes...maybe because I couldn't PH the water. Oh well, she's a jungle so a little bit of natural defoliation is prob a good thing...
Lots of natural defoliation happening this week as the calcium deficiency (I think) makes its way through middle leaves. I think this was a reaction to flushing followed by a week of vacation and inconsistent watering (and water ph) but I think we're basically through it. Organic Molasses should be helping bring Calcium levels back to normal, I hope. Regardless, the Malawi continues to barrel forward despite my mistakes.
There's a bunch of magnesium in molasses too. Getting ready to pop my Malawi's - would you veg the same 6 weeks again, or would you change? Rock it like a rocket 💚👍🤘🤙🖖💚
@JimboNorman, holy Crow! *Blinks* wow - so your day 18 photo is where you're thinking is too late to have flipped? Would 12/12 from seed be beneficial, or 15/9..? That's absolutely incredible. I'm getting ready to drop a whole bunch (of Nepal jam & DP Californian Orange) but malawi is still on my radar 💚👍🤘🤙🖖💚
@Benji, Ace Seeds recommends flipping to 12/12 after 15 days. That felt way too early to me, but now she's stretched like a mf so I would say flip earlier than I did and be prepared for her to keep growing / stretching for 3 or 4 weeks after you flip
