Using Rapid Rooters (peat base) in germination tray. Soaked in 6.0pH balanced water with 8:1 hydrogen peroxide 3%. Planted seed pointy end down at ~1cm depth. 80F temperature (heat mat) and 24 hour lighting. Day 3 has 5 of 5 showing out of rapid rooter. Wait a few more days before transplant into final 10 gallon container.

Moved rapid rooter seedlings (4 days since start of germination) to permanent home. Roots were showing at bottom of germination tray. Will stay indoors for ~4 weeks before moving outdoors later in May when daylight is ~16 hours and nights are warmer. (Northeast US climate). Keeping 16 hour light schedule since it will be going outside with 16 hours of light. Ideally it would be 18, but I'm not sure if jumping from 18 indoor to 16 outdoor will shock plant. Kept best 3 of 5 seedlings. VT law is 2 mature plants max. Once starting to flower will pick best 2 of 3 to keep for harvest. Finally migrated makeshift indoor setup to actual grow tent with better humidity and temperature control.

Second set of leaves have sprouted. Early in week disaster stuck with a runway heater event in the grow tent. It's on an automatic system the shuts of heater at 80F. For whatever reason it never shut off and got up to 130F before I noticed. One plant closest to heat source shriveled and never made it back. Two of the three survived the event and look good. Watering every other day with no nutrients yet.

I have two plants in my tent. They have have been treated the same this whole time. But one plant has many leaves that are curled (photo with red circles), while the other plant has all normal looking leaves. Any idea what would cause the curling like that?

This is caused by overwatering. Let the top inch of the soil dry out completely in between waterings. Otherwise the roots do not have acces to oxygen and it will cause other problems like mold and rotting too.

First week outside and the plants looks to have almost doubled. Was exceptionally warm for Vermont this week (90+), but the plants thrived. Needed a little extra watering due to heat. Did a 2nd topping and likely final topping for the plant and trimmed so low level leaves.

Continues to expand. Rainy and cold week. Starting to rotate plants every watering due to southern bias of sunlight creating asymmetric plant.

Took a few weeks off from documenting because - well - it's still just vegetative. In northeast so should start flowering soon. Got way bigger than I anticipated. I would space them further apart in the future. Using nutrient schedule documented here: https://www.growweedeasy.com/general-hydroponics-nutrients One is tall (60") while the other is 1ft shorter and fatter. Both treated the same. Both topped twice I did setup up a rain barrel (that is filled with hose and nutrients added) with a flow gauge and watering rings for much easier watering experience. 5 weeks ago the wind did take our a 2 thick branches of the tall guy. Newbie mistake for not having ANY support at all. Added a 4 foot tall metal cage around it which has helped tremendously and allow me to spread the growth out to get them bushy. Big guy would've been 25% bigger if I didn't lose part of it. Good learning experience.

Not too much new to add for this week. Defoliated some of the bottom branches. Accidentally left on the watering valve so 14 gallons of water spilled into each plant emptying my reservoir. Ooops. A few days later a couple extra yellow leaves appeared (too much water and nutes?). Besides that everything ok. Should start flowering anytime now with the decreasing daylight outdoors.

Seems to be on final vegetative stretch Seeing some signs of pistol pre-flower (maybe?), but I think it would still be considered vegetative. Big plant is growing bigger (68" height) and crowding out the smaller plant a bit. Again would've spaced them further apart if I knew how big one would get. Due to cage trellis in place and how I've tied some branches for support I will avoid moving at this stage. Trimmed a few more lower branches and some bright yellow dying leaves. Seems a little more shedding of leaves than earlier vegetative, not sure of that's normal or not, but overall plant looks super healthy.

Plants are about at transition from vegetative to flowering and I'm noticing a little more leaf shedding than earlier. Leaves are turning bright yellow and falling off. Mostly the inner leaves that are shaded by the canopy. Overall the plant looks healthy. This normal?

Since you're growing such a huge plant make sure you're giving it enough nutrients. Yellowing leaves is usually a sign of Nitrogen deficiency but in this case it might also be the fact that your plant is so massive that its dropping some unnecessary leaves that are producing less than they are using Good luck eith the rest of your grow. That's an epic one you're growing

Is has begun. Flowering is upon us. The pistol are forming rapidly. The growth has tapered off. Maybe gained about 2" from last week, but that's probably the margin of error of measurement since I ca't reach of see level with the top. Did one last Neem spray to keep the buggies away, but will avoid from now on (unless absolutely needed) to not corrupt the flower flavor profile. The nutrients will be boosted in the coming weeks. Lots and lots of rain locally so they probably haven't gotten the optimum amount of nutes since watering with nute enhanced water was minimal for a couple days due to all the rain.

Still flowering along. Looking good. Growing friend saw my plants and recommended some aggressive pruning, lollipoping of the bottom unproduction branches to allow focus on top flower colas. Did that towards end of week. Getting some nice airflow now. No adverse effects noticed. Did some re-tying to the trellis to make sure the wind won't do any damage and support as the flowers get heavier. One concerning things is the smaller plant main stem/branch seems to have a "wound" with white stuff all around it. Assuming it was powdery mildew even though it looks different than the more patchy photos I saw online. Treat with water/baking soda for lack of other fungicides on hand.

The main stem/branch has what looks like an open wound (red circle) and white powdery substance surrounding the area. Is this powdery mildew? I had already treated with baking soda/water the previous evening (for lack of any other fungicide) so it looks less white than before.

if not a stain, could be. wpm on stem isn't where it usually starts, but an open wound can make it possible for initial infection for sure. if it grows / gets worse you know it's alive and definitely mold. ther's no ridding the plant of it, if it has it. it will spread through air. the mycellium network underneath layers of plant will spread inside. if it grows, kill it. if it looks like powder fall soff when you gently jostle the area, it's wpm. just make sure it isn't discoloration. milk, baking soda, neem will not kill an infection. They can help prevent one andmaybe slow progress down. Even real fungicides used on commercial farms that you cannot buy over the counter in most places in america is 30% effective? lol, it's a joke calling them "fungicides" because they don't do shit. UVB i beleive has been effective fro vineyards - you can google for an article about it. they build a contraption that overlaps the trellis for the vines and slowly push it along shining UVB at it 15minutes after sundown (an important tidbit if you use UVB). That's been very effective. anyway... at minimum isolate it from all other plants. treat all other plants with some neem or horticulrual oil -- this adds some resistance to a colony digging in. Throw it out at first verification it is wpm. Based on how lorge teh colony is, it was already producing spores and spreading. They do this within 3-5 days of original infection. https://extension.psu.edu/powdery-mildew trust info like that and not some anecdotal nonsense in forums. it's beyond the resolution of human senses to accurately resolve.

First off, the WPM hadn't spread an looks gone on stem using he hydrogen peroxide. Used some pretty harsh stuff surrounding the plant to make sure it annihilated. Added some extra support to the trellis of the big plant because the wind moves it around way too much. Bud sites are looking healthy. Few random yellow leaves here and there is the only thing of note. Hand in there guys - only a couple more weeks to go!

Flowers are getting fatter. Branches are getting heavier. Had to add some more support to the less vertical branches. Tried taking photos of the trichomes, but outdoors in the slightest of breeze makes it near impossible due to the shallow focal plane. Oh well. Got one photo of it. Some yellowing and shedding of leaves, but don't think it a nutrient thing, just normal shedding. No signs of any bad things happening. The smell is getting pretty strong now.

Smaller plant was removed and destroyed. It was turning all yellow and several bud sites we shriveled and dead. Looked like bud rot. Not taking any chances. The smaller plant was 1/4 size of big plant and in it's shadow. Will gladly sacrifice it for the big guy. keeping an eye on the big guy for any spread of rot or fungus or whatever got to the small guy. Did some trimming to increase airflow and hopefully prevent any further bad things from happening. Lesson learned for next year. They get big outdoors. Spread them further apart. Defoliate more aggressively sooner to keep the airflow maximized, especially ion the rainy summer we've had up here. Got another 2-3 weeks to go based on other growers I've talked to, but keeping an eye on trichromes turning amber or any fungus that would neccessitate an early harvest.

Is this bud rot? I found it on two bud sites so far on my big plant. What would you do? 1) Assuming it's rot or some other infection would you just harvest now? It's like 2-2.5 weeks early. 2) Wait one more week and see and risk spread?

cut it out with a wide margin around it. better to cut extra off than to leave some behind. if oyu see dead sugar leaves along that stem, good chance it is creeping along the stem, unseen. inspect, gently - without damaging, spread a bud out so you can see the stem underneath. any grey or white fuzz is bad, obviously. the dead sugar leaves are a sign to check. that will happen before the buds are discolored. that's easier to find, obviously. when to harvest? depends on how fast it keeps spreading and how much time you have left etc etc.. different choice for every person. if you don't see it elsewhere, and it's one plant of many, i'd cover (prevent more spores spreading from agitation) the plant and remove it. even that won't guarantee anything... it spreads before you see visible signs. "washing" buds does not disinfect them - whether rot or mildew.

Regretfully the harvest was probably 1.5-2 weeks early. The bud rot was starting to take hold and I decided to salvage what I could. 83 oz wet weight. They got overdried too fast from too much ventilation. Cured in jars, but not too much curing due to overdry condition. Mostly using for edibles so any harshness shouldn't be a problem. Final yield = 19.05oz Probably has to toss about 25% and some the the biggest buds to be safe and not get the mold in the dry tent. Did a wet trim to prevent help keep the air flowing during drying. Delicious smell. With 80% water loss assumption I'll assume close to or a little less than a pound dry weight. We'll see. Using a UV-C light in grow tent for 15min per day. Help with fungi floating around? We'll see.
