last day of week 3. there are 2 distinct phenotypes now. The plant on the right was a triflower mutant from the start. It has longer internodal spacing and is growing a bit more slowly. It also grows 3 branches at each node. Plant on the left is very bushy and short, sort of like the first mint jelly i grew last year. both look very healthy. lights are at 100% full spectrum plus 25% IR.
week 4 now with obvious flowers on both plants. Did some light defoliation on Bob (the tri-leaf phenotype) plus added some LST clips to try and even out the canopy. Defoliated much more extensively on Jim (the bushy phenotype) plus also added LST clips. nutrients are up a bit but still low based on my experiences with auto flower sensitivity in DWC.
chugging along. removed another dozen or so central leaves from the bushy phenotype to open up the middle. The other plant needed no extra training or anything this week. trichomes are clearly visible on multiple buds on the tri-leaf phenotype (but not the bushy phenotype) on day 34. have not seen them before day 41 or so before. Definitely a general stink coming from them, but nothing specific yet.
the two phenotypes are quite different. The tri-leaf has very purple stems now, with purple traces even on bigger branches. The other plant is pure green. flowers also look a bit more advanced on the tri-leaf.
had some slight burned tips, which weren't terrible, but slightly lowered the nutrients. main cola on the tri-leaf phenotype is much further along than I've experienced with an auto. trichomes everywhere, so exciting to think that it still has 35 to 40 so days to go!
did extensive LST this week on both plants pulling branches down with ties. now they both have a pretty flat canopy. hoping it helps!
light is now only about 8" above the plants and at 100% full spectrum plus 100% IR. plants seem to be thriving in the heat...
one plant is far frostier than the other, but it also just looks a little further along. it has a clean, lemon smell. the leafy phenotype has a pretty rank, very strong smell. still plenty of tip burn from nutrients, but i'm slowly improving.
update from end of week 8: progressing now. there are already some milky trichomes, and the nutrient absorption has gone down dramatically. will cut the nute strength now and probably think these will be done in 2.5 weeks.
pics are day 63. there are still some burned tips on both plants, but overall, this is the healthiest grow for me. cycling the nutrients down, and also raising the lamp up. the trileaf phenotype continues to load up ridiculous frost.
trichomes are mostly milky on one plant, and half milky on the other. I've downed the nutrient concentration drastically as they are not eating much. also raised the light as they don't need all those photons as they mature. Will switch to pure water in a couple days on the trileaf and harvest that at about day 72 or so. i think the other one may go 5 days more. until next week!
Harvest on Day 72. There were notable amber trichomes on both plants. It really does finish up in 70 days, as my first run with this strain was also day 72. This strain is simply incredible. i don't understand how it can pack so much flower into only 2 square feet per plant. One plant at harvest (trileaf pheno that had few leaves) already has a very strong mint smell. The other is more pine, lemon, and earth (in that order).
easy to grow. stunning smells and looks. easy to LST. will grow again and again. update: after 3 months of cure, this is such a terpy, delicious strain. i know it's standard practice to say this, but the terps are so deep and strong after 3 months. what a baller...
