i dont think stressing a plant adds value, a chemical stops growth for almost a week. sativa/ indica have different growth cycles too; from slow constant to fast stop/start. the week not growing is a week lost imo, nets n string is the best if stretching occurs. the aim is 1 inch gap between each branch internode. only remove bottom branches as they take energy from the top, hps bulbs are limited to range 1.2m for 600w. i top and tail in week 1 of flowering then leave alone, 1 off week delay, but more bud at the top closer to light, topping the main cola at wk 1 also gives a sea of green n no dying buds underneath. genes also affect hight n streching.
