Germination

~ Germination ~ I got an offer that can't be refused - from an RQS official representative - to test one of their latest F1 hybrids. I chose the Titans. And another proposal, also not to be rejected - this time from the Sweet Seeds team - of testing new varieties. So ultimately there will be three Sweet Seeds strains in the crop : · Two Gorilla Girls XL · Two Jacks 47 XL · Two Sweet Zenzations XL (in a place of Titans F1) Six plants in total - all autos. (I will also make proper diaries for each of them.) Their arrangement will be permanent, i hope - Gorillas in the back, Zenzations front and Jacks in center. As the picture shows. The seeds - two of each variety - were sown directly into the substrate (coir pellets) in a room at 23°C. Every day they were moistened with a little water (about 10 ml each). All Sweet Seeds sprouted on the seventh day after sowing, with only a few hours difference. A good sign. Tomorrow they will be transplanted to the target 20-liter breathable pots and placed in the grow room under 18/6 LED-light schedule. The RQS Titans however - contrary to the name and expectations - turned out not to have enough vitality to sprout within two weeks. So they were discarded, becoming bird food. Sad. UPDATE: Since the Titans are gone, there's a space in the grow room. I will use that space for another strain i got from Sweet Seeds - Sweet Zenzation XL. So 2 (two) Sweet Zenzation seeds were sown and treated in the same way as the previous ones. Zen1 sprouted on the fifth day after sowing! Zen2 - a few hours later (but it was already the sixth day according to the calendar). Excellent! Immediately they both were transplanted to the target 20-liter breathable pots and placed in the grow room under 18/6 LED-light schedule. Along with their older (by a week) sisters.

~ 1st & 2nd week ~ Gorillas & Jacks acclimatized nicely to the conditions in the grow room (i try to make them as good as possible). They have already developed their first true leaves this week. At the end of the week, two more plants - Sweet Zenzations - came to the grow room, filling the rest of the free space. Zen1 feels good. Zen2, however, is a bit strange - looks like a bird has pecked her. And that's probably what happened, because right after germination, before they were repotted, they were outside in the sun for a few hours. I guarded them, but it turns out not very well. (Since i live in the forest, this kind of thing happens to me often, unfortunately.) And i noticed this only in the photos at high magnification - after replanting. The plant lives and grows, but poorly - i don't see her recovering soon, if at all. We'll see. Either way, she'll grow outside if she gets better - i don't want to get in trouble with all the rest here because of her. For now, she's still a tasty morsel for birds, so she'll stay in the grow room for some time. I sowed another Sweet Zenzation seed as soon as i noticed the thing (just sprouted yesterday) and today was transplanted in place of the sick one. And she seems to be fine here. So she is Zen2 from now. But wait - there's a strange thing with her too - she has only one cotyledon, the second is bright yellow and completely undeveloped. But she grows and develops better than the previous one - pecked by a bird. Although now i don't know if it was the bird or bad seed genetics - i didn't catch the bird in the act, it was just the prime suspect. Anyway the fact is that the next Zenzation seed has a problem with germination. Two by three. Not so good. But we'll see how things develop. Starting from seedlings, throughout the vegetative phase, the plants will be well nourished with HESI nutrients two times a week : · Root Complex - 5 ml / 1 l of water · TNT Complex - 5 ml / 1 l of water · SuperVit - 1 drop / 5 l of water The substrate in the pots is a half and half mixture of peat soil and coconut fiber with a small addition of perlite. This time i also added a bit of grind hemp fiber into the substrate (about 10%). The room temperature is set at 28°C in light and 20°C in darkness. Lamps hung at a height of 35 cm above the plants and set to 20% power for now - according to the manufacturer's recommendations and my own previous positive experience. Also due to my previous experience i am NOT going to use any stressing 'techniques' nor 'train' plants - unless necessary. Hope, that will not be necessary. All i'm going to do is feed the plants and please them, not torment them. Besides - the plants are auto-flowers, so even for this reason no 'techniques' are likely to come into play. And very well - harvest will be earlier.

~ 2nd week ~ Gorillas & Jacks were over 10 cm tall at the beginning of this week and have a developed second floor of true leaves. At the end of the week, they already have a third layer of leaves quite developed. They have a thick trunk, wide Indica-like leaves, they're very vital and grow quickly. The span of the lower leaves is more than 20 cm. The plants look nice and healthy and doing well. Zen1 was about 5 cm tall at the beginning of this week and have a developed first floor of true leaves. At the end of the week, she is 9 cm tall and already has a second layer of leaves quite developed. She's fine and healthy. Zen2 is much smaller - 6 cm tall (but she's a week younger) and have a developed first true leaves. Despite the lack of one embryonic leaf, she manages to grow - slowly, but that's something. Zen3 doesn't grow up at all - she's still 3 cm and has very thin stem. But the leaves are definitely bigger than they were at the beginning of the week and something new is popping up on top so... she'll be alive. Though alas, she will be dwarfed so she will grow in the garden outside when recovers. The lamps are still hanging 40 cm above the plants, but i turned up their power to 60%.

~ 4th week ~ Gorilla-1 is the tallest plant in this crop (so far) and stretches the most - at the beginning of the week she was 20 cm tall and over 35 cm in diameter. Gorilla-2 is a bit smaller - 17 cm tall and over 32 cm in diameter. The main trunk is as thick as a pencil, and the space between nodes is 3 cm (Gorilla-1) and 2.5 cm (Gorilla-2). At the beginning of the week, both Jacks was 15 cm tall and over 30 cm in diameter. The main trunk is also thick as a pencil, and the space between nodes is 2 cm. Jack-1 got a strange spot on a leaf - most likely caused by contact with alcohol paint on the information plate, during watering. *** Future note: DO NOT use alcohol ink markers! *** Both Jacks & Gorillas started to develop fifth layer of leaves - the lower leaves became huge, almost like chestnut leaves. The first signs of flowering appears at the end of the week - hair on the nodes. Plants look nice, healthy, very vigorous and doing great. Zen1 is developing quite well - she's 15 cm tall and has reached the fifth floor of leaves. The space between nodes is about 2 cm. Zen2 (a week younger than Zen1) is about 10 cm tall and begins to develop the fourth layer of leaves. The lack of one cotyledon caused slowdown of growth in the last stage of germination. But that's over - she's fine now. It's important that she doesn't bloom too soon - before reaches the right size. But, unfortunately, i have very little influence on this. Zen3 also feels much better - significantly accelerated the rate of growth this week and size is similar to Zen2 - 10 cm. Although the lower leaves clearly indicate that it needs something (more nitrogen probably), but the most important thing is that she has them at all - after all, only the stem sprouted from the ground without any leaves. So, that's already a big success. At the end of the week i sprayed all plants with a solution of neem oil - prophylactically. And increased the power of the lamps to 80%.

~ 5th week ~ At the beginning of the week, Gorilla-1 (the tallest plant) was 25 cm tall, and Gorilla-2 - 20 cm. The side branches are over 20 cm long. At the end of the week, they are 50 and 40 cm tall. They look nice, fresh and healthy. Both Jacks was over 20 cm tall at the beginning of the week. The side branches are also over 20 cm long. At the end of the week, the plants are 35 cm tall. Most likely i brought some pest from the garden (outside) into the grow room. Jack-1 got a weird perforation on a leaf - i don't think it's genetic. Although i can't see any larvae under the microscope (or anything alive - no movement), but that doesn't mean there's nothing there - i have poor eyesight and a cheap microscope. Just in case, i sprayed the plants again with the neem oil solution. And i ordered Neoseiulus Californicus right away - an effective pest-fighter. Zen1 is 20 cm tall at the beginning of the week, the side branches are also the same length. At the end of the week, she's 28 cm tall and the first signs of flowering appears - hair on nodes. Zen2 and Zen3 are 15 cm tall and both have recovered fully. Finally, they started to grow upwards, and the new leaves have a healthy, intense green color. In the middle of the week i transplanted Zen3 to a larger - 12 liter pot. Plants are more thirsty now, so i increased the watering frequency to every second day. More and more flowers are coming and a subtle scent begins to be felt. I increased the power of the lamps to 100 %.

~ 6th week ~ Blooming has started in full swing. Plants stretch out to the light and hairs appear on them in large numbers. Abundant flower buds form on the trunk and branches. Gorilla-1 (the tallest plant) is 67 cm tall and the main trunk is thick like a thumb. So is Gorilla-2, though she's a bit smaller - 53 cm. Jack-1 is 41 cm tall and Jack-2 is 47. They also both have the main trunk thick like a thumb. Zen-1 is 36 cm tall Zen-2 is 25 cm tall Zen-3 is 20 cm tall Zen-1 started blooming rapidly in the middle of the week. Zen-2 & Zen-3 have fully recovered over the past week and are now looking and growing nicely. Originally, i was going to put Zen-3 outside in the backyard when she recovers, but i changed my mind - as she seems to really like the vibe in the grow room and is growing quite nicely now, so she'll stay here. There's enough space. I used Neoseiulus Californicus prophylactically - an effective pest-fighter. I hung the preparations on two plants (Gorilla-1 & and Jack-1) - one bag would be enough for the entire crop such as this, but two also don't hurt. And i started to use HESI nutrients for the flowering phase: · Bloom Complex ➝ 5ml / 1l of water · Phosphorus Plus ➝ 3ml / 1l of water · SuperVit ➝ 1 drop / 5l of water (twice a week) also: · PowerZyme ➝ 2ml / 1l of water · Boost ➝ 2ml / 1l of water (every second week) The plants are nice and healthy. The lamps shine at max.

~ 7th week ~ Both Gorillas bloom beautifully lush. The flowers have long hairs and the trichomes are beginning to be visible to the naked eye. They're still the tallest in the team. Gorilla-1 is 73, and Gorilla-2 - 69 cm tall. I was away over the weekend, so i had no control of the crop for a few days. During this time, the Gorillas grew significantly, getting dangerously close to the lamps - a bit too much, i'm afraid. Moreover, Gorilla-1 was so thirsty that her leaves went limp. Fortunately, i managed to quench her thirst - at the last moment. Hope, nothing serious happened to them and everything will be fine. Both Jacks bloom beautifully and luxuriantly - just like their sisters Gorillas. Although they are a bit shorter in height - they are 52 & 60 cm tall. They look nice, healthy and seem to lack nothing. That's cool. All three Zenzations are currently the same height - 40 cm. And they are all blooming nicely. Zen-3 in particular - expands upwards and sideways. Zenzations are the youngest in this set, and so far they were also the smallest - now they are on par with the rest. Now finally i can evenly level up the lamps.

~ 8th week ~ Due to being too close to the lamps, the plants slightly burned on the upper leaves. It's a pity, but it'll be alright. It used to be worse - when i used HPS lamps ;) Besides, all plants bloom beautifully: · Gorillas - their hair is long like hippies and the buds are full of resin. Cool. · Jacks - the buds are getting bigger and new ones keep coming. The hair starts to turn red. · Zenzations - Zen-1 is the most developed of the three, as she's the oldest. Zen-3 (the one pecked by a bird) is the tallest and widest of the three, surprisingly. She's over 50 cm tall. I've increased the watering frequency - now they get half a liter a day (per plant).

~ 9th week ~ Too close distance to the lamps caused the edges of the upper leaves to turn yellow and slightly dry - this is rather not too good for plants. Gorillas - the buds are already very developed - massive, dense and long-haired, covered in resin. They are already starting to mature, as evidenced by their color - more and more intense, and hair quickly turns red. Harvest is coming - i think in two, three weeks at the most. Both Jacks look like twin sisters - i don't think i would tell them apart if it wasn't for the labels. The buds are already starting to ripen - they are large, thick, shiny with resin, and the hair turns red quickly. They have a nice lavender shade. Zenzations - the buds are getting denser with each passing day and are starting to get coated in resin. They emit a very intense, but pleasant smell - like in an old pharmacy. Overall - they're doing great.

~ 10th week ~ Both Gorillas are very mature - the buds are thick and heavy that the branches bend under their weight. A thick layer of shiny resin covers them. Almost all hair turned red. The main trunk along its entire length, as well as the side branches and all the leaves on the underside have very thick purple stripes. The plants emit a very intense smell of natural gas mixed with musk - an interesting composition ;) Harvest next week - just waiting for the resin to dull. Jacks are also ripe - although not as much as Gorillas - they need a little more time - maybe a week more. The buds are also not as chunky as Gorillas, but copious and full of resin. Half the hair is red. They give off a chemical smell - intense but pleasant. Zenzations - although they are younger than the rest of the crop by almost 2 weeks, they match them in maturity, which means they are the fastest. The buds are beautifully frosted with resin. Their hair hasn't turned red yet, but they're starting to. All plants took on nice autumn colors and emit a pleasant smell of an old pharmacy. I forgot to mention last week that i've stopped fertilizing them all - they only get water now and in modest amounts.

@amadeo, after some medical bs (seizures ect) I've had to put my driving and my business on hold so have time on my hands now, this is my main focus at this point as I just love the whole process and fine tuning to always do better (and obvs the fine buds at the end of it!) I just need more space to work with really now (I would love to pack my garden but live in a backwards prohibition country where it keeps the police busy taking herbs away from people rather than catching the nonces!) All the best with the grow (but am sure there in more than safe hands 👍) stay green 💚💚💚

Hi @@@secretman! You can (and even should) give SuperVit with each watering - that is even more than twice a week. All the best! P.S.Don't worry, it's very efficient - one small bottle is enough for a whole year of growing one after another ;)
