Lava Cake by Zamnesia Seeds, I am thrilled! This is not my first time growing Lava Cake, as I have had Lava Cake Automatic before. But I think that indoors, the unique smells and flavours will be even stronger, and the buds better! I primed the seed by soaking it in tap water for a day, then put the seed in the peat pellet. I put her in a small plastic greenhouse in front of my window.

This part of the grow is always the scariest, right? They are so fragile and sensitive: I am constantly afraid of breaking them. Nevertheless, she survived her first week! The first set of true leaves is showing and growth will become exponential from this point. For the first 5 days, I added a makeshift humidity dome made from a soda bottle, to keep the humidity up. On the last 2 days of this week, I removed the dome, and she is a bit shocked by the low humidity. Currently, it is very dry in my room, so it is quite a difference, but she will adapt. The light has been dimmed to around 40%, and I will slowly increase it to 60-70% over the next week.
To feed her, I built a slow-release fertilized soil with Greenhouse Feeding nutrients. I added 4 grams of BioGrow per litre of soil. When inserting the peat pellet into the soil, I added some beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi to set her up for the next few months. I watered with a bit of BioEnhancer, to stimulate the soil life. From now on, I only have to water with plain water and the nutrients in the soil will release over time to feed the plant.
Some solid growth this week! The fragile seedling phase is over, and now she can really start to explode with new growth! The humidity is a little low, but still, she is doing really well. Not much more to say, so see you next week!
Growth is really exploding now! The conditions in my cabinet are not ideal, the humidity is a bit low, leading to a high VPD, so the plant is really being pushed hard and shows a bit of stress. But when the ladies are big enough, they will create more humidity in the cabinet. I topped Lava Cake at the start of the week, to ensure she doesn't grow into the grow light and promote some side-branching. A few days later I switched to a 12/12 light cycle, to kick off the flowering cycle. At the end of the week, I start with low-stress training to keep the canopy low and even. I topdressed the soil with 4 grams of BioBloom fertilizer per litre of soil to provide all the nutrients she will need in the flowering phase.
The start of the flowering phase, ooo yeah! The first thing I need to make sure of is that she doesn't stretch too much and hit the light. She is a bit more leggy than the other girls in the cabinet, so extra attention for Lava Cake. I removed some of the big fan leaves to slow down growth and maintain good airflow.
Lava Cake is going strong! Already we are in the second week of the flowering phase, and she is doing really well. The first flowers are forming, and she is stretching towards the light. With some LST, I make sure she is not stretching too much and has an even canopy. I topdressed 1 gram of bloom fertilizer per litre of soil and watered with 1 gram per litre of water.
Not much to say about this week, it's pretty much smooth sailing now. The stretch is done and Lava Cake is focussing on the flowers, which are getting bigger by the day!
A blueberry scent is filling the room when I open the cabinet! With this smell, I can't wait until harvest day! Lava Cake is now definitely stacking some weight on the flowers.
Zamnesia never told me that this Lava Cake came with icing sugar?! She is frosty! Week 5 of the flowering phase and she is doing really well! Not much to cover, so, let's talk a little bit about the grow setup! Currently, Lava Cake and two other cultivars are in my custom growing cabinet. The cabinet is built by myself and is all about stealth: it's super quiet, has no smell, and looks like an ordinary cabinet when the doors are closed. It has produced 3 harvests so far. It features an 80 W dimmable LED board, a fan & filter from AC Infinity, and small PC fans to create air movement inside. It's very small: 110 x 65 x 35 cm or 43.3 x 25.6 x 13.8 inches, so plant training for short plants has been the biggest challenge. Lava Cake has stretched quite a bit, but is still short enough to fit in the cabinet; so that's awesome!
The sweet blueberry smell is becoming very strong! The buds are also increasing in size. With the end of the flowering phase coming closer, the leaves are turning light green and yellow, which makes for some awesome pictures.
Lava Cake is coming along nicely as the weeks pass. Just look at the beautiful fade! 😍 The sweet blueberry smell is also getting stronger by the week, can't wait to taste this in my vape!
The last week for the beautiful Lava Cake from Zamnesia. Last week it was raining non-stop over here, which led to very high humidity. I don't want to risk botrytis, so it is time to harvest! The flowers smell beautifully like a sweet blueberry cake, the flowers are sticky and I can't wait to try them! I will cut the plant at the bottom and hang it upside down to dry for a few weeks in my growing closet. See you later for the end results!
