Week 2 for 5 of 6. Week 1 for 1. First time growing autoflowers so this will be interesting. The ladies will be going in and out of a 6x6 pop up greenhouse throughout the season, depending on climate conditions. I live in the Bay Area so the weather has been a little all over the place lately. I’d expect to have them outside, full time, by the end of May. Using 5 gallon cloth pots, filled with Fox Farm Ocean Forest and a solo cups worth of Happy Frog in the middle, where the seeds were sewn directly into soil. The ration of perlite to soil is about 1:4. Had to hit ‘em with a little bit of Captain Jack’s neem as one seedling got visited by what I think was a very small number of aphids. The 2 week olds are about 2.5 inches high and seem to be developing nicely. The one week old was germinated in a damp paper towel and then sewn into the soil. It’s coming along pretty good for its age. I have a small space heater I primarily use at night. Will use Fox Farm nutes in a couple more weeks or so. As there is still plenty of food in the soils. Just using quality filtered city punch for my water source and ph to 6.5. Pretty simple setup . I will add additional photos and updates as time permits.
I think these are looking pretty good so far. Not really sure if this growth is normal or not as I’ve never grown auto flower. The 6 babies up front are 3 weeks from seed and the 6 in back are 2 weeks from seed. There was a little bite burn on some of the older babies but nothing serious. So far, so good. Lots of sunny, warm weather ahead
Babies are coming along swimmingly and continue to be outside full time. The larger plants average 6 inches tall and I have started to lst half of them. They are 4 weeks 4 weeks from seed and about 3.5 from when they actually broke ground.
The smaller plants were started a week behind the larger ones and average 4-4.5 inches tall.
I have not had to add any nutes due to the ffof still supplying plenty. I will continue to monitor this. I’ve been giving the larger plants a quarter gallon, sometimes daily depending on how hot it is. At 80 degrees I can water and wait a day or two but when it’s in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s they need water once a day.
Grow is going relatively well so far though I was having some issues with dampening off. Oddly, I have never had that issue with photo seeds so not sure what to make of it. I think 10 plants are healthy and one is in quarantine and in life support. I think I may have saved it but time will tell. Will post again next Friday
This week brought lots of growth. The Alaskan purple, blue dream, and green gelato that I originally started from seed on 4/21 are all about 10 inches tall and are not yet showing any signs of flowering. Unfortunately, I had a small snail issue and a few plants got munched by slugs. The plants started from seed on 4/28 are now about 7 inches tall. All I have been doing is watering every other day using the pre-loaded nutes in the happy frog and ocean forest.
The plants pictured were started from seed on 4/21. They went into flower and have already stretched the better part of 10 inches. The Alaskan Purple is the largest. So far thing continue to go well and even the plants that got hit by the slugs are doing great.
Ladies are looking good. Everyone is in flower and appears to be healthy. I started hitting them with all three Trinity nutes and am simply following the Fox Farm feeding instructions. In addition, I just germinated 5 Fast Buds Strawberry-Banana seeds. Tallest plant of the current bunch is the Alaskan Purple with Blue Dream and Green Gelato being a close second.
Ladies are flowering nicely and starting to bulk up. The tallest plants from the batch of seeds started on 4/21 is a 26” Alaskan Purple and 26”Green Gelato. The tallest from the batch started on 4/28 is a 30” Critical 2.0. The runt of the litter is a blue dream that got stunted and nearly died due to dampening off issues as a seedling. She’s 14” tall. There are a total of 9 and not counting the runt, the average height of the remaining 8 is just over 2 feet. Anyone wanna take a gander as to what these might yield in dry weight after harvest?
Flowering keeps coming along. They still have some time and continue looking good. I just keep feeding them on the Fox Farm Trinity grow schedule, more or less. Will be hitting them with molasses. They are averaging 24” with the tallest being a 32” Critical 2.0. That being said, the blue dream buds look to be the phattest so far.
The ladies are getting close now, especially the blue dream and Alaskan purples. They smell very fragrant now!
I included a picture of each cola in the order they appear from right to left. First two are Alaskan Purples, 2nd two are blue dream, I believe the 5th is a northern lights, the 6th in a green gelato. Number 7 is a critical 2.0, number 8 is another northern lights, and the runt is a green gelato that i stunted accidentally during the seedling stage and it nearly died from dampening off. I am flushing the majority of them with molasses water thought there are a few that could probably take one or two more feeding next week.
Well, I’ll be at week 12 this Friday for 6 of the 9 ladies. I was definitely visited by some spider mites despite my best efforts to hit them with neem multiple times throughout the grow. Luckily, I have only found one looper and think the neem kept them at bay for the most part as well. Shit, I even had to battle slugs this grow as they tried eating the girls when they were still in veg. Despite all these pests best efforts, I am hoping to get about a half pound off of these when all is said and done. Will chop tomorrow….
@TangoNCash,
Thanks and hope your grow is going well. Not sure that I will do autos again next year. A lot will depend on the dry yield I get. If I average less than an ounce a plant, I will not consider them worth continuing as I can easily get a pound or more quality bud on a full photo. I like their compact size and the fact I will have a harvest by early July. That being said, they are much more finicky. Next year I can envision doing one early crop of 10 autos and starting 2 full photos at the same time. That might be a better mix as it will give me a nice, early harvest head stash during the summer and yield me plenty for the rest of the year with the full photos.
