Day 22: Grapefruit is showing Pistils and small pre-flower nodes in the middle internode leaves. Leaves are shooting up like crazy, going quite fast.
Day 11: Gorilla Girl is surviving well without her cotyledons, stem is a bit thin and long but I'm sure as she grows it'll get stronger.
No Bio-Dyne feeding yet, only using dechlorinated tap water stored in sealed containers. The cover crop fixes a lot of nitrogen and moisture into the soil so saving a lot on watering for the interim.
27/06: Fed both plants with ~7ml Biodyne/250-300ml of dechlorinated water. I'm noticing Potassium (K) deficiency in the true leaves of Grapefruit, hopefully the Biodyne dosage will help out. Trimmed down the Red Clovers to decompose and feed the soil since they're getting really tall + big, hoping that helps with the NPK balance too. Also raised the light back up to ~64 cm from side of pot, noticing some roots coming out the bottom of the fabric pot so I'll need to get some trays for that.
28/06: I may need to get trays ASAP, there's roots sticking out the bottom of the pots. Presumably from the clovers or the plants themselves. I'm worried about N(itrogen) Toxicity in the soil, if I really have to I'll buy expensive RO water for plant feeding. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
01/07: Got trays, need to get more plain soil and perlite for drainage. Just keeping an eye on how things are going from here, will definitely do things very different next run. No N-Tox or any other issues so I'm guessing the deep green leaves are the pheno expression to get more light in since the bigger fan leaves are blocking the light on the smaller fan leaves that were suspected of N-Tox, but again if it were truly N-Tox there would be yellowing, burn and clawing. As for the burnt tips, this is also normal, possibly just the plant pulling extra nutes out of the unused fan leaves.
Gorilla Girl is now ending Week 2 going into Week 3
Grapefruit is now ending Week 3 going into Week 4 with pre-flower nodes + pistils.
03/07: Packed down Freedom Farms Premium into the pots and recycled the clovers into the soil and outside garden.
GG XL Watered with 250ml Rain Water - ~0.75ml BioDyne + 0.75ml BioGrow
Grapefruit watered with 500ml rain water - ~0.75ml BioDyne + 0.75ml BioGrow with a foliar spray to treat early/medium stage Mg deficiency, she was showing this (interveinal chlorosis in 4th/5th fan leaves) in the start of week 4 which means the soil nutrients were depleted.
05/07:
Watered with ~250ml / 0.5ml BioGrow - GGXL
Watered with ~500ml / 0.5ml BioGrow - Grapefruit
Want to move to watering every morning so the soil can dry out on schedule, and keep a good routine to get up early. Carpe diem :)
Is there anyway I can avoid this besides keeping it wet and pressed down until stronger roots form? I'm worried about the root structure and stress if I have to keep pressing it into the soil...
White spots/lesions growing on stem base but not on leaves or anywhere else?
This started within the last 1-3 days.
The stem "splitting" on the skin was present since it was sagging and bounced back fine.
Worried this is mold/infection from soil. Packed more soil onto the top (!)
Looked at the leaves and did some research, either this is just a normal process where the plant tries to grow extra roots or it's mildew. Either way I think I'll dial down from 2 cups of water in the morning to just 1 once the soil has dried out today/tomorrow. Over/underwatering has possibly led to stem sagging + slow growth so next time I'm investing in Autopots or watering less often + small amounts...
Wow the girls are biiig! Good work! I love the pistil hairs! They are gonna be nice, fat and tasty! I'd love to see how the gorilla girl plays out, because i am thinking about growing some “sweet seeds"-beans next. 🇪🇦
@delta_420, Haha can relate to the little tracking laziness and the leap of faith for the beginning. But for me it turned out as such a fun and rewarding hobby (and nerve wrecking from time to time), i really love to grow, both as a grower and to grow some tasty buds. 😊
And i love to learn from the other growers here, so thank you very much for sharing! Good luck for a strong finish on this grow! Nothing beats the first smoke of your own homegrown buds!
@Herbie101, thanks! First time I've done a "proper" grow so to speak for med + personal use. Took a very expensive leap of faith but it's paying off. I've been a little bit lazy tracking metrics and temps etc since the battery died in my hygrometer but got it fixed. The GG XL is packing on the pistils and size too, outgrowing the Grapefruit. They both took to my n00b growing mistakes super well, lack of soil and nutes, over/underwatering but bounced back really well. I've started giving them both two extra sets of Acti-Vera and Bio-Bloom for flower and to get rid of the leaf miners but as she gets frosty leaves and the resin packs on pests etc don't survive long :) Out of curiousity, rubbing the leaves has this super sweet fruity smell, gg xl has this amazing earthy, gluey typical gorilla glue smell which is yum. Can't wait for harvest, the leaves on the GG XL are bigger than my hand, it's awesome seeing the indica-leaning pheno! :)
