Added humidifier to the tent to get a better VPD
Been giving it a bit of top feed every day as the roots grow towards the res.
On the last day of the week (6/28/2023) the first root hit the water.
Light experimental LST throughout the week.
Started getting signs of root rot on 7/3/2023. The res had started to smell like a pond, and the roots were browning heavily. Added 35mL of 3% H2O2 to the reservoir, followed by a double dose (~16mL) of Hydroguard
Fought root rot/res/nute issues all week, but seemed to have turned the corner. Nice steady growth.
Cleaned the res hard at the start of the week and continued to treat with H2O2, and switched to Lucas Formula for nutes along the way.
I added ~30mL of 3% H2O2 daily for 4 days before the smell seemed to disappear and roots recovered. Afterwards double dosed the hydroguard again.
Noticing very dark and shiny leaves with some clawing. I hadn't been measuring the EC in the res and figured I burned the plants. I replaced 1 gal of the res with pH'd tap water to reduce the EC/PPM. Did not take exact measurements.
My notes get thinner from here as I had too many plants going at once to properly document this first attempt.
She is starting to stretch into flower here, and this is where my notes stopped on 7/14/2023 until 8/13/2023.
Switched to 24hrs to try to get some more growth out of her. Absolutely explosive growth and I am in shock.
Been training her down with those LST clips and gently bending branches/the main cola.
Yeah, those look like buds!
Been giving her alternating Lucas Formula and CalMag RO water. She was getting burned again and I measured the EC at 3.4 in the res. Flushed and brought it to a more reasonable 2.0 EC.
The buds are forming very nicely and are absolutely everywhere on the plant. I trimmed a bunch of shaded stuff and defoliated frequently throughout it's lifecycle but it's still a sticky mess in there.
Started pulling branches apart with wires to get more airflow as the buds fatten up. This thing is going absolutely bananas after fixing the EC and getting her a fresh tank of Lucas Formula. Smells pungent upon opening the tent and you can't even brush against the plant without become sticky with resin.
Drinking lots of water now, pushing over 1gal/day.
8/15/2023 - She is coming along nicely. The buds are fattening up and some hairs are starting to turn brown. The tent reeks when I open it in the morning, but is pretty tame if I've been working in there throughout the day. Thinking we have a few weeks yet before harvest, as this strain is advertised as 75-80 days seed-to-harvest and we are on day 62.
The canopy is incredibly dense and I fear that this will lead to issues as the buds get fatter.
I have been removing leaves regularly that look problematic. This has opened up room for more airflow inside and under the canopy.
8/16/2023 - Start of week 9 from seed. Reduced light schedule in the whole tent to 18/6 to get some temperature fluctuation, and potentially reduce stress on my photo gals. Light intensity was changed 75% -> 100% to match previous DLI. A lot of the upper buds have sort of "opened up" which I take to be foxtailing. Canopy leaf temps seemed to be fine at ~78DegF, so I moved the lights up further last week and reduced DLI 60 -> 50.
She is still showing signs of nute burn, but I have been keeping EC under control and she has been getting pH'd water for the last few days.
8/18/2023 - The flowers seem to be developing nicely. There is significantly more color to the buds and more hairs turning orange in just the last couple days. Did some more aggressive defoliation towards the center of the plant to open it up for more airflow. It is super dense in there and I still have to cut more out.
Been busy and haven't kept up with the girls or the diary. I chopped a few buds off during this week as a little sample. The nute burn is really starting to set in here with all of my leaves yellowing. She's pushing through, but it's going to be tough.
Been slowly chopping some of the larger ripe colas. So far I've removed ~4 dry ounces, and I think we have ~4 more to go. She's still going strong, despite the thorough yellowing. Smell is incredible and punches you in the face when you open the tent.
Chopping off ripe colas isn't that bad of an idea tbh, never thought about it, but that'd leave the lower popcorn more time to ripen; good thinking! 👊😁
