100% germination rate on all 10 Boston Cream Cake testers with testers# 7&10 sprouting within 48hrs. I tried two germination methods; first 5 were placed into a glass with water until the taproot was visible(as soon as 18hours but I waited longer before planting). Second method was planting them directly into the dirt. From the freezer?, into the soil with a bit of water, and I kept them covered in a plastic bag that I would mist with plain h20. Check week 1 for the update pics
Tester # 7&10 were the first two seeds to sprout, two days later (8/10/23 ), and 24hours later(8/11) the remaining seeds had sprouted(pic 1.) they seem to be catching up quick.
Pic #2 is 8/12/23, 4 days since germination they seem healthy so far, I’m not concerned about the stretching since I’ll plant them low into the soil when I transplant into solo cups
Pic # 1-2 were taken 9 days after germination(8/17) still not going to transplant since the soil is still moist, I prefer to repot when they’re a bit more dry(less messy.)
pic #3 was taken 11 days after germination(8/19). Strong green stems, they’re not flimsy. This was also the same day I transplanted into solo cups. I covered them with a plastic bag to keep the humidity up and increased the light to 50w (from 25w) to help with the stretching. The light caused it to get hotter, which kept the humidity high inside the bag. It was kept covered and in these conditions for two weeks, and as you can imagine the leaves were negatively affected by the intensity+humidity. —> next update week 4
After finally uncovering them after two weeks, you can see a lot of light damage , and the leaves were super soft to the touch because of the humidity. Not to mention how I didn’t have to water for those two weeks because of how humid it stayed inside the bag. They’ll stay uncovered and eventually will get moved to the 3x3 where there’s a humidifier to keep them in a more desirable environment (70-76% rH & 72f-78f)
I let the soil dry back too much causing them to wilt. After a few hours they bounced back(after feeding them.) It really feels like I’m testing these seeds to the extreme with how wilted they looked. This is the second time it’s happened and both times they came back like nothing. I lowered the light intensity back to 20%, I feel like if I had it at 40-60% they’d be way bushier. When I flip to flower this week or next week I’ll be able to have the intensity a bit higher.
