I got these seeds in Spain in 2018,
since then there was a few times that I wanted to plant them, but always some other strain came in the way.
Lately I had the urge to grow and smoke a haze strain. Most of them have a long flowering time, so I said to myself, “hey this one shouldn't take super long”, so after all these years it's finally time to grow these seeds.
I put all 12 to germination as I think that after 5 years in my fridge some of them might not pop. I was right about that. 10 out of 12 came out. PLEASE take notice that this is not the fault of the breeder. This is a natural process. I have grown strains from Super Sativa Seed Club before. Super Mad Sky Floater (I saw a great RED pheno), Lemon OG, Strawberry Chemdawg OG and Lava Cake and all of the seeds germinated 100%, but the where “fresh”. I loved smoking each of those strains, so I also have some expectations for the Golden Apple Haze.
Of course these are regular seeds so I am planning to take out all the males and leave only 4 female plants to fully flower. Fingers crossed that I get four female plants because mathematically it should be OK but you never know.
I put them all in 3,2 L pot filled with BAC Lava Soil, mixed with some Mycoterra Krakken powder.
I gave around 800ml of pure filtered water to each pot before putting the seedlings in. This will give me some time before the next watering.
Hope all goes well with this grow.
This is the start of my new grow.
As usual I didn't even water the plants. There are many reasons that I do it this way.
First of all I do not want the soil to be wet and I do not want the water to slow down root development. I prefer to have the soil dry out on top (only at the early phases) than to block the development of the plant and the root system.
I also do this because I noticed that BAC Lava Soil is really good at keeping the moisture in.
Within the next few days I will give them water, I presume it will be max three more days without water.
Plant development is vigorous already at the start. I have observed that this is normal for regular seeds. If they keep developing quick I will consider keeping them under the eighteen hours per day light schedule for three weeks instead of four.
I am keeping the temp at 26 degrees and around 70 to 75% relative humidity.
I have the Bilberry lamp set to 35% of its power on the grow spectrum.
I have put out some yellow fly traps as I have had some not good experience with the BAC lava soil last time I used it.
I hope they stay healthy and the grow goes good.
Fingers Crossed.
This week I only gave them ph correct water,
In general the grow is going OK but...
Some of the plants started to have chlorosis and the yellow catchers have got some victims,
all this leads me to believe that I have another bad experience with the BAC Lava Soil.
I have ordered Canna Terra Pro to re-pot them into.
I will keep it under control until then.
I plan to switch the light schedule within the next seven to ten days.
Fingers crossed it all goes good.
This was the last week of the 18 hour day cycle.
Next week I will switch to flowering and look out for them to show their sex, after which I will eliminate the males and hopefully I will be left with at least four female plants.
During the past week the plants have rooted properly and started to grow,
they did a steady 10cm during 7 days.
I noticed chlorosis on 3 of the plants.
As a natural first reaction I studied the plants for signs of aphids but found none. Just a few thirps but I used woma soil clean and have not seen any since.
Looking at all the plants I checked the EC of the run off water (usually I don't check the EC, only the Ph) and to my surprise it was quite high. Due to the fact that I only used Ph'ed water I can suspect that the problem is with the BAC Lava Soil. As it has let me down for the second time in a row I decided to switch to Canna Terra Professional for the re-potting of this strain.
The new leaves on those plants seem more healthy after a small flush.
Hope things go well.
During the last two weeks I switched the light schedule and selected out the males,
I also re-potted the females to 20L pots in new fresh Canna soil in hope there are no more thirps.
I fed them once with the BIO canna line.
Hope things go good.
