Germinated 2 sour d auto and 1 northern light photo. All developed a healthy 1/4” tap root in 3 days. Transferred to rapid rooter plugs and placed in a humidity dome. One of the sour d didn’t sprout after a few days so I put another seed directly into a plug - after a couple days the direct sow sprouted but it looked like the seed shell damaged one of the leaves as it pushed out of the plug.
Transplanted into net pots with hydroton. Using general hydroponics flora line I mixed 5 gallons according to their recommend feed chart (used light feed) ph to 6.0 and added to reservoir. Top feeding to establish roots without needing to add extra solution to get the water level to the bottom of the net pots.
Not much changed this week. I kept with the light feed to see if the 3rd Sour D auto would catch up but it didn’t make it. Really wanted to run 3 plants this cycle but it looks like I’ll just have the 2.
Started LST. Added Armor Si, Cal/mag, & Floralicious Plus to the feeding solution. ~480 PPFD. Looks like I might have some deficiencies starting…I think it’s because I delayed feeding to let the other plant catch up before I gave up on it. I didn’t ph the last fees either because my meter started being inconsistent and wouldn’t hold calibration. Hoping next feed will solve any issues.
Continuing leaf tucking and LST. Upped the nutrient solution and added GH Diamond Nectar for the next feed and the plants reacted well. Looks like it’s starting to preflower. Also changed the light schedule to 20/4 to help with the cooler temps and stay close to 1.2 VPD
Day 38 since starting germination:
Everything is looking healthy and happy. I’ve continued leaf tucking & LST. Upped the amount of Diamond nectar from 1ml/gal to 4ml/gal and added Liquid Koolbloom to the feed. Keeping the lights on 20/4 has kept the average low temp a degree higher at 66. I also changed the positioning of the lights. Now the Atreum hydra-3200 is providing ~700 ppfd across the canopy.
At this point I’m starting to feed for flower so when I did my water change I also changed the orientation of my RDWC buckets. I removed the bucket with the Northern Lights photo period from the loop so it could be connected to its own reservoir and be fed a veg nutrient solution while the Sour D auto gets its bloom nutrients.
I’ve seen some saying a ph of ~6.5 is more ideal for autoflowers so I will be trying that this feed…which works out nice because my solution happened to be right there after mixing the nutrients.
Day 45:
Not much has changed, but it’s exciting watching her grow. Continuing LST & tucking and did some light defoliating on day 44. Trying to keep the canopy as even as possible.
Pretty cool watching this auto do it’s thing next to a photo.
Yeehaw, lookin good!
Upped the nutrient feed to “medium”. Continuing to tie down, leaf tuck, light defoliation and spreading as much as I can to make the canopy even. Accidentally snapped a nice branch - tied it up and gave some support.
Raised the light - at 80% the Atreum Hydra 3200 is providing ~900 ppfd to the tops closest to the light. Nutrients stayed the same. Fed an extra 5gal of solution about half way through the week - they’re getting thirsty and the dehumidifier is running a lot more. The top with broken branch is recovering nicely. Been taking a few fan leaves off every day.
Starting to smell great in here! I defoliate maybe a dozen leaves every day or every other day to help airflow and light penetration. I’ve seen tons of people saying not to defoliate autoflowers because it can stunt them…these things are just so bushy and dense though - I havn’t seen any signs of stress yet and I save the more intense defoliating time for the day I change feeding solutions.
Started feeding medium strength “late bloom” - reduced micro, gro, bloom, and cal/mag.
She has her own room now! Inside this VIVOSUN 5x5 the canopy is being supplied with 35,000 - 55,000 lux (650 - 950 ppfd) by the spiderfarmer SE7000. I also installed a UV-B fluorescent light on a timer to run for 30 minutes before the se7000 turns on.
I did some light defoliating and retied some outer branches to open up the canopy.
Feeding following the general hydroponics 10 part table for late blooming/ripening - subbed liquid koolbloom for dry koolbloom at an introductory rate of 1/4 tsp/gal. Also added GH Ripen @ 4ml/gal.
Getting beautiful and stinky down here! Buds are thickening up nicely and getting frosty! The aroma is like a dank basement and brushing a stem smells like bubblegum.
UV-B still running for 30min just before the SE7000 turns on, providing 950 ppfd to the top bud sites.
Feeding “week 8 Ripen” at light strength according to General Hydroponics 10 part table and with the addition of General Hydroponics Dry Kool Bloom at 2tsp/gal (x2 the strength of last week). I think that dry koolbloom dose may have been a little too aggressive though - I’ve had an explosion of new growth on the buds as well as some canoeing.
I wish I had a meter to monitor co2, but that will be the next upgrade.
Almost there! I started the week off feeding the week 8 “ripen” solution following GH flora series 10 part table at light strength and added a more aggressive dose of GH dry koolbloom @ .5tsp/gal and it seemed like it was a little much. There was an explosion of new growth/hairs on the buds as well as lots of canoeing on the leaves. I did a flush once I realized and fed just tap water for a day before feeding the light strength ripen solution again with (half) .25tsp/gal of the dry kool bloom.
This week the tent was super dry and hovering around 35-42% humidity - plugged in my humidity controller and reptile fogger to fix that.
I also changed the direction of my ac infinity 6” fan to suck cold winter air into the tent instead of blowing the warm air out. With this setup and the led light driver mounted outside of the tent I’ve been able to lower the temps down closer to 70F. Starting to see a little purple amongst the green.
Having some difficulties this week. Lots of rain and an ill timed departure of my sump pump caused 5” of standing water in the basement. The bottom of the tent filled with water but the tray stayed dry on the inside. I’ve got tons of fans and dehumidifiers running so hopefully there won’t be any trouble…I’m tempted to cut now but the trichs say to wait just a little longer.
Also having issues with roots blocking the fittings in the bottom of the bucket. Have to be extra careful everything is actually recirculating and not just overflowing out of the bucket in the tent.
Started the week by draining & running plain tap water through the buckets for 30min before draining and refilling with a solution of GH flora kleen @ 10ml/gal. After 3 days I repeated. Cut off some of the dried up fan leaves. UV-b for 45 min prior to lights on.
Going to chop sometime this week.
Thanks for stopping by!
Whole plant wet @ cut was 9lbs (4082 grams)
Total bud weight after drying and trim was 540grams.
Nice dank basement smell with notes of grape and fruit.
Sour diesel autoflower by seed supreme is my 2nd grow ever and my first autoflower. I had some issues starting; I germinated 3 seeds and while all of them popped open only one of them took off in once they peaked out of the rapid rooter plug. The other 2 popped up but just stopped growing.
Mainly started off with leaf tucking but I think she handled defoliation well when I did it - I just paid attention the first few times that I didn’t stress it out too much. Handled the General Hydroponics 10 part feeding well.
Grown in a 4x4 with spiderfarmer se7000. Had a single exhale co2 bag.
