Ocean Forest Potting Soil - Fox Farm
Ocean Forest Potting Soil 1000 mll
This diary is mostly being posted after the fact, as I've had a lot of travel and work has been extra busy. As this is written, these girls are in late flower and likely ~1-2 weeks from harvest, at a guess. This is my second grow, and my first experience with Fast Buds genetics (Purple Lemonade). In broad strokes: Purple Lemonade popped out her cotyledons a day ahead of Northern Light, but overall seems to be about a week behind her RQS tentmate over the course of the grow. I've had struggles with Purple Lemonade over most of this grow, but I think she's just perhaps a bit of a more advanced girl, and possibly Ocean Forest was too hot for her out of the gate. It feels like I've been scrabbling to get her fed appropriately, but I'm also pretty new to this. There's a chance it's just this seed, but I only got the one, so don't have a point of comparison. Her buds certainly won't be as fat as some I've seen on here, but they are doing their best.

I was traveling this week, so my partner was just watering for me. But Ocean Forest will feed enough to all of Veg stage more or less, so no big. Northern Light is pictured, and had jumped out ahead of Purple Lemonade by this point. One of Purple Lemonade's cotyledons was reported to be "really funky".

Returned to town at the end of this week. Started LST on both plants. Northern Light: Humming right along, and growing quite robustly, all looked good to me! Purple Lemonade: Some yellow spotting showing up on fan leaves here too, so no longer just the cotyledon. Otherwise seemed fine, if a bit less robust than her roomate.

Did another round of LST tweaking late in the week. Increased lamp distance to 24" Northern Light: Steady as she goes. Purple Lemonade: Why so cranky?? Man, she got very angry at the start of this week. I popped some Fox Farm Comeback Formula into her water, and she seemed to recover a bit by the end of the week. Pretty big growth sprint over the week as well.

The girls were showing signs of pre-/early flowering, so I started light feeding with 1tsp each per gal of Fox Farm Grow Big and Tiger Bloom. Continued to Low stress train both plants. And they were both being rock stars by the end of the week. Purple Lemonade: I defoliated a bit and removed her cranky leaves mid week, and by week end her new growth was looking great.

A Lot of vigorous growth from both girls this week. Purple Lemonade is still having leaves develop yellow spotting, but is otherwise growing well and showing her sativa side with the start of what will prove to be a pretty insane stretch (maybe 3 gal grow bags for my next run, as I think this grow is pushing the limits of my 6'5" tent height, even with the LST, unless I can find a better way to get my light hung with less dead space above it)

This was a big week! Purple Lemonade continued to stretch like crazy and started really developing a purple pheno (huzzah!). Leaves were still spotting with yellow, but overall growth seemed solid. Northern Light is just working away at being a vigorous and busty lady, and keeps filling out nicely, though seems mostly done with stretching (I feel ya girl... I'm bad about it too). I started to suspect cal-mag issues for Purple Lemonade at this point, though was worried about potential fungus gnat or rust issues. (Closer inspection more or less ruled rust out, and it wasn't spreading to Northern Light, so.... *shrug*) Gnats are an issue elsewhere in the house, but I don't see many in the grow tent, and again, why would it just be an issue on one plant. Still not sure what was/is going on with her. (Spoiler alert: Cal-Mag, once I obtained some, didn't fix anything). I thought maybe Purple Lemonade could be getting a little exhausted and stressed from a 20 hour schedule so cut light back to 18 and dropped intensity to 70% on my 200W SF2000

Purple is coming along and buds are continuing to develop. But Cal Mag early in the week didn't sort out the progression of yellow spots. At this stage it kinda looked like it could be early Septoria, so treated with liguid fungicide and some B.T. for good measure just in case it could be gnats. Northern Light was just chugging along, and no photos of her for this week :-/

Now we're more or less current, and this is as close to an "on-time" entry as I've made for this diary so far. I did a big tent cleaning and reorganization to give these girls a bit more headroom, and replaced the old plastic standoff shelf with AC Infinity watering trays (used as just overflow for now). It seems likely that I was giving too little water on previous waterings in order to try to avoid having rampant water on the bottom of my tent, which may have contributed to what I expect Purple Lemonade's primary struggle has been (see the following). But both plants are developing their trichomes and terps nicely, and smell glorious. Northern Light has some robust buds, and Purple Lemonade is doing pretty well too, if less dense. Likely she'd have denser buds if I did a better job pruning bud sites, but I simply didn't have the time to stay on top of it. Purple Lemonade: No matter what I try to do or how I try to address it, she seems to want to put out spots on her leaves. I've looked at ph, pests, fungus, nutes... At this point, it seems like probably some on-going low grade nutrient burn is most likely (those spots never developed into septoria as it tends to look in the late stage with blackening spots), and maybe I should have just hard flushed her weeks ago, but at this stage she's going to be going on just water for a couple weeks anyway, and then once her trichomes look about ready, I'll hit her with Fox Farm Sledgehammer a few days before she gets harvested. But I think not watering to a good overflow has maybe caused uneven spots in nutrient concentration and thus ph in the soil, and I think she's just perhaps less forgiving than Northern Light. Hopefully the AC Infinity trays will help all that with future grows.

Bit of a half-asses entry here… way too busy of late. Hopefully that’s resolved soon. Watching trichomes closely now, and did a big flush watering for both plants with FF Sledgehammer yesterday (7Dec) and I think Northern Light will probably get chopped within a few days, with Purple Lemonade fast on her heels, but we shall see! Still learning the ropes with trichome progression, for sure. It will be smoother next grow hopefully, now that I have my phone “microscope” attachment to start documenting them earlier.
