Both seeds germinated and popped through the soil two days apart (will be defined as Left Pot (2 days earlier) or Right Pot going forward). I did not pre-soak or use any other germination method prior to planting. I planted directly into the soil which is about 40% FFOF and 40% FFHF, with the remaining 20% being a mix of perlite and worm castings. I dug out a small area to plant directly into only Happy Frog. This way it should have a chance to grow and strengthen prior to hitting the ocean forest. As a first time grower, I can tell that my patience will be tested when the excitement just makes me want to open the tent every chance I get. I do not plan on adding nutrients until week 4 or 5
Update: by day 7 the right pot had caught up with the other one.
This week, i have tried to stay out of the tent and just let these girls grow. Based on the medium i will only water once this week, roughly a gallon per plant. Since I'm growing in soil i am more concerned with the medium remaining moist to continue to microbial break down of nutrients in the soil to continue feeding the plant as we progress. The Left pot sprouted first, the right pot has almost caught up in height but clearly 2 days behind for leaf development.
On day 9 and 11 respectively, i watered the pot thoroughly and decided to increase my lighting to a 20/4 schedule. Hoping it will help keep the tent warmer and increase growth. They seem to be moving slower than her sisters i see being posted. Also increased ppfd from 400 to 475.
Last update of the week (day 13 and 15 respectively): I am pretty sure i overwatered, the biggest leaves on the left pot have been drooping for a few days. Growth doesn't seem to have slowed though, just letting the pot get good and dry before the next watering. all things considered, both plants still alive heading into week 3, thats a win.
So, if you've been following, i realized the drooping and curling of the bigger bottom leaves (primarily) on the left pot was due to the drop in humidity, not overwatering. I add the humidifier back into the tent, and within hours i've been seeing improvement in the leaves. Curious to see how that tracks the rest of the week.
I would like to add a feeding since i am using gaia green and it will take time to break the nutrients down, they would hit the roots sometime around week 4, which is what i would like. I haven't watered in about 6 days now, so will have to decide on feeding in the next day or so, otherwise they'll wait till week 4.
Fed with Gaia green 50/50 ratio this week. The actual breakdown of amendments was 5 tbsp per nutrient per plant, and 1 cup of worm castings.
I began performing LST on the plants on days 20 and 18. They responded better than i could've hoped. Theyre really starting to drink a lot more water. Also had to take one of the leaves off of each plant because after LST they were laying in soil and weren't getting enough light. Cant wait to see how the rest goes, about a third of the way through.
Day 23 and 21 respectively i performed what i considered my first real go at LST and bending those tops over. They took it very well, and i will follow up with how they handled it in the coming days. I also brought ppfd up to 530 still around 20 inches from the plants. I've been able to dial in my vpd better the past few days by both bringing down the temperature and bringing up the humidity. the plant has responded beautifully. I also feel like she always looks best about 4 days post watering.
Day 26 and 24 i finally realized my girls are over watered and that is whats causing the issue. One of the leaves showed a small brown dot which finally told me the issue. I have just been letting them dry out completely. Both plants seem to still be growing, stems look healthy. Day 27 and 25, the girls are continuing to bounce back as the pots dry out. Leaves are starting to stand up again. Will let them go another day or two before im probably forced to water again
Day 29 and Day 27 from sprout - The girls have really bounced back from the over watering. I have been adjusting their LST tie downs and leaf tucking where possible. I am for sure seeing the benefits and the girls are responding beautifully. I haven't watered in 5 days, i expect i will need to in the next day or two. currently debating on if i should use my net across the tent to help further separate and support the plants. My issue is that i like to spin them to do my gardening due to the smaller sized tent. Lastly, due to the overwatering i did have to take off a few leaves on each plant because they were laying on top of the soil. again, both plants responded great. Seems like a very resilient strain for my first grow (thank god)
I added topping this week because i accidentally snapped the top off the main on the left pot plant. Absolutely terrified but hoping it has time to treat it like a traditional topping. If not, oh well, learning something everyday through this first grow.
In other news, the have recovered from the overwatering and are still responding to LST. They have been showing signs of pre-flower for about a week already. Seems like they are getting thirstier quicker. After this week i will begin flowering nutes since they're slow release.
the left pot bounced back wonderfully from accidental topping of the top two nodes. They are definitely drinking more water quicker and quicker. Definitely in preflower now i expect next week to start the flowering porting of the diary. I did install the trellis net, unsure if it will stay or not, i feel like i will miss rotating the pots to tend the plants but time will tell.
This week has been a pretty smooth week. I had been continuing to LST but made the decision to untie them all and try to encourage the stretch during early flower. The right pot has stayed consistently two days behind her older sister. love opening the tent and starting to get a little smell. the tops all seem to be growing pretty even and can hopefully pull some nice thick buds at the end.
@Krisis, Thanks! definitely learning a lot and already ready to change parts of my setup for the next grow, but its going as good as i could've hoped so far.
