Week 1. Vegetation

Starting up a new growroom after being out for some while. There’s good weed for a decent price out here but homegrown is still nr 1! The best hobby there is! I started with 3 Jack Herer seeds, 3 Gelato #420 and 1 Purple Cookie Kush, Jack & Kush from Sensi seeds, Gelato from White label, actually also Sensi seeds. 2 Gelato seeds did not sprout out but one of them came a week later than the rest so i end up with 5 decent seedlings and 1 that comes behind. We’ll see what she brings. Maybe i keep her, maybe i stick with 5 plants or maybe i buy some more seeds to fill the room op to 9 plant to make a square. I have to think about it still but on the other hand, i have 3 Jack Herer seeds so they have the power to fill up this room of 120/120 cm, i only have 180cm height so i guess there will be lots of bondage in here 🙃 At this moment the seedlings are in small containers with soil for seedlings and cuttings, some perlite and worm castings. From now on they also get roots from Bio Nova added in the water. I have the BAC lava soil for later on, some extra perlite to mix and some left overs from last years worm castings to use when plants will switch to flower as a topping. Btw: worm castings and lava is a wonderfull gift of nature, very essential to me in my grows. Furter on i use the vegan line from Bio Nova, i still have plenty and it is just a very good product. Never had any issues with it and i never use ph or ec meters or adjust it. And yes if i did the crop could get bigger but if i do it would not be organic anymore. And i just love this way of growing instead of using chemicals. For prevention i spray neem oil, still have some plant vitale plus left from BAC but i will only use it when spidermites invade. I’m not sure if this is all natural but it helps when needed. It’s winter out here and i don’t want to heat up extra. That is why i did not go for LED but still use the classic HPS. Always been happy with Lumatek and if you really want my opinion… i still think HPS gives better weed in the end. But that is my opinion, if i will grow here in summertime I’m also planning to make the switch to LED. But for now it’s the oldskool way and hey, for a classic strain like the original Jack Herer it had to be…

Thx everyone for the advise, i topped her cause she would not grow anymore, give her the time the others will get to grow and i’ll see. The advice that i had to have more seeds is an advice i always followed in the past but i always ended up with to many plants. So this time i only invested in 7 seeds, so i had at least 5 good plants to continue. Now I’m really in doubt to order more seeds. Some sativa who can catch up with the others… or just leave it like this and take the risk in my 1,8m high growroom…

Well as you can see i have some mixed emotions. 4 plants doing just fine and the 2 good Jacks are going to be wild and hard to handle. But that’s a good thing as i lost 2 gelato’s and possible 1 Jack. I had to cut that Jack because 2 fanleaves where growing in each other and no new sproutings could be made so the plant literally stopped growing vertical. Let’s see where she will get at the time the other plants are ready for the switch.

This weeks episode… I learned that the sensi’s are very sensitive but i think i have it under control. Still not a good feeling about these genetics… After putting the fan way higher and giving the lady’s a topping of wormcasts i see that the jacks i gave the wormcast 2 days ago are react thankfull already. Today the rest got their topping and they all had a haircut between node 4&5. Except Jack 3 who already had one because of her mutation but, i see her change every day and i think she wel get up with the others. Not as big but still worth the effort… Lets hope

Today is the first day for my girls to shine under the full 600w Lumatek. 4 have been moved into a 26l grow bag, Jack 3 is showed good progress so one of these days she can also have more space. I’m also planning an extra topping before the switch next week. Sorry for the pictures, i have to figure something out to make them better. For now it is with the light on…

Picture’s from last week, i did not had much time and i was in stress… Had some troubles and i could not really put my finger on it.. i did saw some fungus gnats already but just a few and i since i spray with neem oil i never tought… that i would open up my growroom and see a lot of those f***ers… Did a good neem spay on the soil and a day or 2 later i did saw improvement in the plants but still a lot of gnats… 2 days ago i found out they where in the new bag of wormcasts. Never saw so many fungus gnats in once… Removed the bag, did a gnat genocide and this week another spray but seems like i getting control again. I found out that the wormcasts where wet when i opened up, it was cold but not frozen, did they come with the bag? It was a new bag ordered online… or did i have them already and they just multiply so fast in there? Fact is that they loved it here and it is my faulth they did. On the other hand, I’m glad to know, so i can try to fix it!

I skipped a week, sorry about that. Plants are getting much better as i see less and less gnats. Still way to much curly leaves for my opinion but I’m feeling more confindent than last week. I’m glad cause the flowering is kicking in… I bend and squeeze them and do all the possible to get an even canopy and most off all control the height before i place a scrognet so i can control the gnats better for now.. Last night i sprayed with neem oil and i did not saw a single gnat yet since the light went on 20 minutes ago… Let’s hope i won… 🤞🏼

This week I’m getting more and more pleased with what i see. The growspace is getting full, the topping worked out great, defoliation here and there, just where it’s needed. I’m not a big fan of defoliation so i only do so when it give’s more than i take. Jack 1 has been bend down and also the Gelato to spread out because she was way to bushy, she reacted like it was a relief. The bending of Jack 1 was to control the height cause she’s a real wild diva. No matter what i do she curls her leaves like she’s over watered. Even when the soil is complete dry as i do to fight the gnats. It could be the air flow but i doubt that cause it’s already the minumum, if i had less airflow than this it would be a problem. But the thing is, she developes just great taking 1/4 of the growspace so i guess the curly leaves is just who she is. The purple cookie Kush could also use a spreading but she looks like the most indica lady in the room among sativa’s so she’s gonna stop growing vertical much sooner than her sisters and that is why i let her go for now. The other Jacks are doing great, as for all 3 they are all wild and tall, even the one i had to top at the start of growth. Ps. On the pictures: left in the back: Jack 1, right next to her in the right corner Jack 2 showing me the most resistance. In the front on the left: Gelato #420, on the right the Purple Cookie Kush and in the middle Jack 3.

Start of week 3, let’s rock and roll baby’s!! I’m still waiting to place the net cause this will block my way to the jacks in the back. I’m in doubt if i will hang it or think about another solution to suppport the branches… i have them under control but the jacks still growing and head space is getting limited. So far so good… still a month or 2 to go… 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 And then about the Gelato… as the germination was so bad, the only one that made it made me fall in love so much. What a lovely compact plant this is and the best thing is… she’s turning purple!!! What a beauty 😍😍😍

Start of week 4 What can i say, i think it’s all going great right now. And most of all, I’m pleased with the almost even canopy i have. I tought i could not make it but i’m glad i did. The jacks still growing but it seems like the purple cookie Kush wont be in their shadow, in fact i pulled the kush a bit open like i did with the gelato. This kush is so packed up that i had to. The Jacks… these are real diva’s, the queens of the forest… Still a long way to go so a lot can go wrong but if they keep up like this i’m sure i’ll be a happy grower in the end. And then about the Gelato… I’m still in love with her, after only 3 weeks of flowering she’s already covered in a layer of crystals, really amazing! She won’t have the biggest flowers but i bet the one with the most resin on it… And then i have to talk about my feeding… Bio Nova veganics… it’s the best feeding i have ever used. By far! Maybe it’s a bit heavy in the N still the plants give me the feeling they can’t do without it. They also react very fast if you compare this with other organic feedings. And not because it’s vegan and all the hype shit about it. I still love my meat to eat myself but my plants really love this vegan lifestyle. I don’t need to correct any ph because a living soil don’t needs to be and this feeding really helps feeding the soil and bring a lot of life in to it. It’s my 4th grow with Bio Nova veganics and i don’t think i will switch very soon.

Start of week 5 flowerig. The Jacks starting to show off and all i think when i see and smell them is Haze. With only 4 weeks passed and possible 10 weeks left I’m already very impressed with these original Jack Herers. But i think jack 2 will be done faster cause she show me the most indica influence. Jack 1 and 3 are sativa all the way so i’m in for a fun ride, hope i can get them happy. So far so good. As for the cookie Kush, she’s must be about halfway, she’s doing great fatten up making resin all over the flowers and leaves. Very nice smell already. The Gelato is going slow but steady. Not much of a smell yet but i bet that’s going to change in some weeks. I think still 6 or 7 weeks to go…
