5 Queens - Hesi vs BioBizz Experiment

Fuzzel Started opening the vents to lower the humidity to about 60% for a few hours each day. Roots are reaching out the bottom of all pots by day 11, transplant planned for day 15 and the soilmix is already prepared and wetted.

Fuzzel Some brown spots developed on 3 of the plants (1 Purple and both special queens) during the last 2 days in the little greenhouse. Wilting leaves on one of them. Maybe some fungus due to humidity and warmth? Transplanted into large pots and moved them into the tent. This means better light including UV (may help with whatever disease was on the leaves) but also lower temperatures at just over 21° with lights on and below 16° C with lights off. Not much I can do about that. Should get a little warmer with the lights getting ramped up from 60% to Full over the next week or so. Growth took a while to start up after transplant. Guess the cold slowed them down a bit. Will have an eye on that and try to keep them warmer somehow. The Purples seem to look bigger and healthier than the Specials for now. Also started feeding them their Hesi and BioBizz Nutrients at low dosage, while giving them all some silic rock every now and then.

Fuzzel Plants have finally arrived in their new home and growth really takes off now. Soon I will be able to top them above the 6th node. Only topping once this grow with keeping 4 nodes below the top and probably discarding the lowest node (as in cutting them into clones once they are large enoguh for that). Slowly ramping up the Nutrients as well. Started some LST this week. Only bending over the plants a little with one or two loops of yarn each. Planting them a little off-center into the pots works out into them being kinda centered now. Also first tiny bits of strategic defoliation, to enable better light penetration. So far the Purple Queens look much more indica like, broader leaves (some almost remind me of strawberry leaf, they look like they'd be tasty in a salad😋) and much thicker stalks and stems. The Special Queens grow a little more sativa like, already offering much more light to penetrate to the lower nodes. Also the specials showed their first preflower pistils emerging by mid of this week, always nice to have the comfirmation that they are female. Unsurprisingly after only 10 days of feeding nutes theres no noticeable difference between the Hesi and BioBizz plants. Took some spare tubing and raised the air intake from floor height to about 1.2m. Seems to work as temps immediately went 1 to 1,5 degrees up (day and night). Increasing the GCx2 to 100% later this week increased day temperatures to 23. Also put in a couple million SF Nematodes against the pesky Sciaridae that of course showed up a few days after transplant into the large pots👻. So that'll be dealt with in a week or so. 👌 Two more side projects (of pretty much unknown cannabis seeds, one I am at least pretty sure is feminized) moved into the tent as well, its now full. They will probably only have 2 weeks of actual growth before 12/12 hits them, but I just want to scout out the currently unknown potential of those seeds so this will suffice.

Fuzzel Very strong growth this week. All plants are getting very thick stems. The Purple Queens are getting very bushy and take quite some time to get the upper growth going again after topping. The Special Queens still have very good light penetration and their lower nodes are stretching a lot so I dont see a problem with getting those lower shoots up into the canopy. They quickly resumed growth after topping. All Plants were topped above 6th Node at the start of this week. Started slight defoliation of the lowest parts. The yarn bending the plants was removed since the stem is now naturally bend.

Fuzzel After decreasing lighting from 18 to 16 hours last week, this week saw a decrease from 16 to 12 hours.( I tapered the decrease, so -1 hour for two days, then -half an hour for 4 days) At the end of the week a few tablespoons of worm castings and about a teaspoon of Guanokalong were raked into the topsoil of every plant before watering. Just to give the microbes and phosphorus levels a little kick with the switch into flower.💪 Both Special Queens somehow seemed to have been primed for flower by the decrease to 16 hours. By the end of this week upon reahing 12/12 the already had thick flowers with lots of pistils emerging and were stretching while the Purple Queen still acted like salad for another 10 days💤 Well the Specials also showed their readiness for flower with a lot of preflower pistils for a few weeks now, so I would dare to say this strain matures quite fast.👍 So far no obvious difference between plants on the Hesi vs those on the BioBizz Nutrition. The Bio Special is a few days ahead in flower development and stretch than her Hesi sister, but she was always a little ahead, even as a seedling. The Bio Special also has a little yellowing of the leaf tipps, which I would not have expected shince shes organicly fed, but I just dialed down the Nutes for her by half for the next few feedings. I would say the plant structure of the Hesi Purple is a little more to my liking but I would attribute that more to luck/timing of the topping the the exact lengths thet certain lower limbs stretched since then. Watering Plan: Spray the top soil with filtered water + a bit silic rock every 1-2 days so it doesnt dry out too much/deep (very roughly 250ml per plant each time). Adding half a liter with the Hesy or BioBizz nutes every 3-4 days. Why that complicated? I feel the soil drys out quite quick in the fabric pots, Thats why I try to keep it at least from drying too much on the top. I also guess that having part of the root area always pretty dry (on sides and bottom) and parts always a little moist (top and middle) is better than drowning the plant (remember all these guys telling you to have X Liter of runoff) and having it dry up over a few days. From what I gather from the research stability is more important that accuracy when trying to provide a good enviroment for the plant (and everything in the soil). But thats just like my opinion man😎

Fuzzel The Specials continue to flower like nobodys business while the Purples are still slow in their reaction to the change in lighting. Despite the similar names these two strains do not seem to accompany each other well. I cant see how the special will not bee ready for harvest at least two weeks prior to the Purples, but we will see. At least the purples are picking up on the stretch a little so they may not fall too much behind the specials. Doesnt matter, by now I got almost every plant standing on its on little something to get an even canopy. Also noticed a faint sweet/creamy smell developing, going in a good direction. This weeks feeding schedule (and also a bit next week) sees a slow change from grow to bloom nutrients. I perform that change a little faster on the Specials, as they are actually already making flowers.

Fuzzel A bit of stretching from all plants. Finally first signs of flower from the Puprles. The small one shows some purple on the buds so excited to see where this goes. A bit of LST on the small purple to fit it in there somehow. The Specials are still racing ahead with big heads full of pistils. Still not sure whether cold temps or the change from 18/6 to 16/8 triggered them to flower this fast/early as long. As long as they are keeping up in size, as they currently are, I dont mind. Now ramping up the respective flower nutrients, with keeping the soil moist with Water + a bit SilicRock in between Watering with the Nutes.

Fuzzel Growth and Bud development continues. Of course the only Purple Queen that actually turns ot to be purple had to be the tiny one in the 4L pot😒, but luckily I cut a few clones that are vegging at a friends place, so maybe I can get another clone in a few months if I want more of the purple phenos. Started this week with a big defoliation, the purples need a little more attention here since they are bushier and got much wider leaves. Other than that development between the two nutrients still seems kinda similar. By the end of this week I started to see some discoloration on the leaftips of the Special Queen on BioBizz Nutrients. The tips and/or the edges of the tip of the new leaves on top started to show some brown spots and brighten/yellow a little. To me it looked rather like "too much of something" than a nutrient deficiency, so I halfed the BioBizz Nutrients for the next few feedings to see how they do. 😬 I also raked in a little topdressing of a tablespoon wormcastings and a teaspoon of Guanokalong(NPK:1-15-1) per plant at the start of this week, but since the leavediscoloration was already visible then, I dont think that is part of the problem. Honestly I would not have expected to run into such nutrient issues with an organic nutrient, especially since I have kept at about 75% of the manufacturers dosage specification. Maybe the pH of the soil got f*d up somehow💩, but currently I am not in possession of the instruments to have a reliable look at my soils pH.

Fuzzel Good development this week. Leaf tips on the BioBizz Special Queen continue getting browner some start to curl up a little and getting crispy. The upper leaves tips on the BioBizz Purple Queen are going yellow as well, so she gets less nutrients as well. Or rather I am not doubling the nutrients like BioBizz is recommending. Dont really know whats wrong here, but it's not that bad (yet). Imma give it another week to see what happens. The Hesi plants both look healthy. But not particulary bigger than the ones on BioBizz either.

Fuzzel Growth in general continues well plus theres now an increasingly sweet smell. Sadly the leavetips on both BioBizz fed plants continue to get worse. The get yellow, then brown, curl up and get crispy.😟 Since some lower foliage on those plants is getting a little yellow and reducing nutes did not seem to help them I am ramping the BioBizz up again. It's not like they are dying, they still develop nice frosty buds, but their sisters on Hesi just look that much healthier. Funnily the Purple Queen Mini (the actually purple one) in the small pot that gets a little bit of both nutrients and mostly just plain water is doing good as well. But she also got some organic fertilizer pellets in the soil. Those are rich in potassium so she always tended to have slightly yellow leavetips, but thats quite alright. She is doing very well. For now I am guessing towards some nutrientlockout because of pH, because there are too many growers I know and trust, who are doing fine with BioBizz. Will have to find a way to check up on the pH of what I am feeding them...

Fuzzel Just a little defoliation here and there. Humidity has lowered to 50-55 in the day to 65-70 in the night. Not great, not terrible. Lower Fanleaves yellowing a bit on all plants and are removed once all green is sucked out. Did a meticulous 3 hour pH testing marathon with an Apera pH60 measuring my tapwater as well as veg/early-/late-flower feeding plans of both the Hesi and BioBizz products used. Also measured the amounts of citric or acetic acid needed to get to the desired 6.0-6.5. Turns out my tapwater starts at 7.5 and all the nutrient solutions ended up between 6.6-6.9 without adjusting. So all this time I have been feeding a little on the basic side, and thats what I guess doesnt work well in conjunction with the organic BioBizz Nutrients. Going forward I will adjust everything to about 6.4. I watered the Special B with pH adjusted water until I had close to 1L runoff. Fed her low dose later this week after getting dry. She is not recovering yet, but getting worse at a very slow pace at least. She should pull through for a few more weeks. Since both Specials have been Flowering for over 6 weeks (because they decided to start early) I'll be feeding them one last time this week and harvest the Special B a little early (maybe in two weeks) depending on how bad she looks. since the Special H is super healthy and can afford to go to full ripeness she will have a week more. Trichomes are developing well on them, though the buds look a little fluffy and thin on them. The Purples are doing very good. Thicker and denser flowers. Also the Purple B is doing better than the Special B, but still looks unhappy about something (that by nature of this experiment needs to be related to the BioBizz feeding). It also seems like the longer flowering time of the purples is becoming visible with them continuing to stack up in comparison to the specials. Edit: Also you see a tiny guy in some pictures😜. In week 5 I took some clones of all these plants, when I saw the Specials already started flowering. Gave all of them away, but kept one Special clone and tried to reveg under 20h for over 5 weeks. Didnt work, continued flowering slowly after taking root in a 4L pot for , and this week I gave up and it went in the tent under 12/12 next to the parent. 👻 Will probably yield like 4g but whatever. The other clones exhibit the same behavior with the purples vegging fine, the specials continueing to advance into flower even as clones with 20h of light. 👉 Since I saw another recent diary with specials going into flower at 18h of light I firmly believe that the breeder dun goofed and some automatic DNA wound up in this batch of Special Queens. 👽

Fuzzel Buds are slowly fattening up. And glistening with Trichomes😁 Special (Hesi) is nicely fading to purple and lighter greens while Special (BioBizz) is getting more crispy leaves. I harvested her 2 worst looking topbuds by the end of this week before they turn all brown. The rest will follow as needed, because trichomes tell me she isnt completely ready yet💤 The Purples are developing fine and have a few weeks to go, they get their last nutes this week. Just the Purple (BioBizz) has weirdly 3 topbuds where the sugarleaves turned yellow, pink and crispy within just a few days while the lower leaves and other buds are fine. 😵 I will reiterate that this may all be my fault, feeding a little to high of a pH most of this grow. On the other hand both plants on Hesi are doing great in the same conditions (and their nutrient solutions having been onf pretty similar pH), so in this direct comparison BioBizz just lost. No way to sugar coat it with both BB plants looking the way they do 😅

Fuzzel No more nutrients. Only pH adjusted water. Last watering for the crispy Special BioBizz and cutting her by the end of this week. The Special on Hesi still pushing out little green knobs of buds everywhere, so I will let her fade and ripen for as long as I can. Great display of colors on this one.👌 The Purple on BioBizz still has those weird 3 buds with the dying leaves, all the others are fattening up fine. The Hesi Purple is doing very well, just as the Mini Purple is delighting with its color.😍 👉Installed a GCx4 PWR 💪 on Day 95 and will slowly increase its power to about 80% of its 160 watts of angry photons over a few days. Dont want to stress or overheat my queens this late in flower. Increased airflow for compensate for the much bigger light. Could keep the increase to a degree or two. 😎Sunglasses are always near the tent, that things bright.

Fuzzel Special B is all dried and finished just in time for celebrating legalization day in germany👍🏼 The yield will be all tallied up once all the harvest is finished. Just a little more patience. All plants left in the tent are fattening up nicely. The fading colors get more beautiful by the day😍 Humidity and temps are very nice. Below 65% and 16-18° at night and below 50% and 22-24° in the daytime. Have gotten their last water on day 104. The GCx4 is kept at an output of about 130 watts, in the end it will not even be a full 2 weeks with the additional power. Excited to see the next grow flower under full power.💪 Next week will start with 2 days lights out, then they will get cut and dried. Since I estimate a drying environment of 60-65% at 17° I can dry slow and careful. The update for harvest may take a while. Will these 5 Queens achieve over 100g total? Lets find out!
