Week 2: The first true leaves
Hello dear growers and growerettes,
I am back with an update on my grow, where I am growing four different strains from Zamnesia: Gorilla Zkittlez, Gigglez, Bruce Banner and Blueberry .
The second week was very exciting, as all my plants developed their first true leaves. These are the leaves that have the characteristic shape and serration of cannabis. They are also the ones that produce the cannabinoids and terpenes that we love so much. The first ones to show their true leaves were Bruce Banner and Gorilla Zkittlez, who are both very vigorous and healthy. Blueberry and Gigglez were a bit slower, as their leaves were still a bit crumpled. But they are still healthy and have no signs of deficiency.
I water them every three days with pH-regulated water, to keep the soil moist but not too wet and to follow the wet-dry cycle. The humidity and temperature are the same as last week. This week, I started to measure the PPFD value, which stands for photosynthetic photon flux density. This is a measure of how much light energy is available for the plants to use for photosynthesis. It is expressed in micromoles of photons per square meter per second (µmols/m²/s). Studies have shown that 300 µmols/m²/s is an optimal average value for young plants. I adjusted the height of my lamp so that the PPFD value is around 300 µmols/m²/s, to provide the best possible environment for my plants.
Here are the sizes of my plants after two weeks:
Bruce Banner: 12 cm
Gigglez: 10 cm
Gorilla Zkittlez: 12 cm
Blueberry: 10 cm
I am looking forward to the next week, where I hope to see some more growth and maybe some pre-flowers. I wonder who will be the first to show their sex. Will it be Bruce, the hulk of the group? Or will it be Gigglez, the joker of the group? Or will it be Gorilla, the king of the jungle? Or will it be Blueberry, the sweetest of the bunch? Stay tuned to find out!
Thank you for your attention, and see you in the next update!
Cheers, Keta Pan
