Mandarin Zkittles + Passion Fruit Punch 2024 Winter Spring
I decided to grow another strain from Ethos. Since the last 10 pack I got from them was Mandarin Cookies V2. Turned out so well I figured I would stick close to the original strain I got from them. Plus add a dash in of another strain I enjoy quiet a bit Zkittles.. I'm looking forward to growing this Particular strain out. It seems pretty close to the other strain I am growing which is Passion Fruit Punch. This strain is starting to become scarce on the scene. The pack in the picture is not the one I used. I had 3 seeds left so I figured I'd pop them for this run and save the one in the picture for later. Unfortunately 1 of the 3 seeds that cracked didn't manage to sprout. But 8 out of 9 seeds ain't bad. I'm still at a 100% germination rate when it comes to Ethos. That just shows you the quality that they bring to the seed game.
This will have to do for weeks 1-3. Germination went smoothly. I originally had the dome on but the plants were starting to touch the roof of it so I decided it would be best to take off the top with the t5 light on it. Currently my grow light is set to 10% and has a distance of 2 feet from the plants. Since there was no wind in the clone dome I'm keeping them as is for about a week before I transplant. Stems are currently weak but that will change with a bit of wind therapy. I'm putting minimal amounts of nutrients in right now. I will be upping the base once they are transplanted and adding cal mag.
This week was fairly standard. Just started adding cal mag to my feeds. I also finished transplanting. I used great white Microryzae. I also upped my grow light to 20 percent. Will start this week to try topping 1 or 2 plants and LST.
Okay sorry for my sporadic postings. These ladies have been going since mid DEC. I feel I'm near the point of flip. I'll give it 1 more week in veg but after that I got to get this grow in the bag before spring really get's going.
I am happy to say that I am ready to complete the veg stage. I decided not to go big this run and max my canopy height out to 3 feet instead of 4. Training has resulted in a very even canopy right now. The Mandarin Zkittles seems to respond well to topping rather than LST. My Passion Fruit Punch is however responding well to LST. I upped my base nutes to mid level and the plants seem to have responded well. I'm generally re watering / feeding every 5 days or so. Plants look very healthy so I'm happy to make the flip in a few days.
So I decided to delay this post since half way through the week I flipped to 12-12. But the first technical week of flower went well. I kept using the grow base as the plants needs really only shift their nutrient needs after a week of of flower. My feeding schedule is always the same the first week of flower and as of today I switched to bloom for 1 plant. Added in King Kola PK booster as well. I normally add my sweeteners in week 3-6. I'm actually very happy with the grow so far. Knock on wood there haven't been any deficiencies and the RH and temps have been in perfect balance. I didn't over veg this time and it looks like the size of these plants will be manageable at 3 feet max. I don't care if it effects my yield I'm doing this for fun and quality. I've maxed out a 4x4 at 2 pounds. Sure it was a lot but I wasn't happy with the quality of it. I'm so excited to be growing Passion Fruit punch. The 1 plant is kinda the runt of the run but it could turn out to be a great pheno. Been doing some heavy defoliation recently. Chopped a good third off them and made sure my nodes were getting direct light. As for the light itself it is now running at 100% at a 2 foot distance from the canopy. FYI the plants in the pics might be a bit droopy but this was 15 min after lights on.
As you can see the stretched has almost reached it's Apex. I'm very happy I flipped when I did. The canopy has reached 30 inches from soil and my light might not have to go all the way up this time. The plants are filling out the space very nicely. As you can see I switched out my base and added two traces. I don't use much nutrients cause most don't really do much. Plus I really wanted to maintain cost during this grow. The square pots are wonderful as the need for watering is a bit less with these containers vs fabric pots. I'm saving money on nutrients as well. I bought some base because I thought I would run out but I still made it through my original grow bottles and I have a feeling my bloom as well. My traces are a different story but I have a back up bottle for King Kola and Honey Chome is a very small part of my nutrient diet that I can have it easily replaced like my cal mag. It's a shame that Emerald Harvest is loosing it's presence in Canada. EH if your reading this please please please get distribution back up. You have a great line up. As for the MZ there growing great and are very versatile genetics. Can't wait to smoke it As for the PFP 1 plant is doing very well while the other is smaller but seems to be just as happy. All pics are from the first day of week 3.
Well I have completed week 3 of flower and the plants are chugging along. Some have a slight deficiency but I just upped the base and the KK. Not to mention an extra feeding should mitigate the problem. If you do not see it I am currently using Emerald Harvest Honey Chome 2ml per liter.
The canopy has now reached 3 feet and over all the canopy appears to be very well. The smell is coming in and I think I am going the like this Mandarin Zkittles. My Passion Fruit Punch twins are coming in very nicely. So excited to hopefully smoke that pungent strain. The two ones standing next to each other just outside the tent are the PFP's.
Edit: I figured out the problem with the deficency while watering my plants. I wasn't adding enough PH down and wasn't bothering to check when I watered. I did when I fed but after doing a simple drop test I found out that my ph was more up towards the 7. So live and learn I suppose. I should be more vigilant when checking ph.
So this week has gone well. Whatever deficiencies I experienced last week seem to have eased. The Mandarin Zkittles seem to be doing well. Buds are getting bigger and there starting to show some frost. I'm at the halfway point so for next week I will ease back on the KK. The Passion Fruit Punch is coming in spectacularly. I'm so excited to be vaping and smoking it again. Saved a bit to tide me over. The stretch has finished so I'm not concerned about canopy height and for the most part coverage and even are good indications of a good harvest. All the best peeps keep it green.
I am now entering week 5. The smell has just come on so strong. I think I'm going to like MZ. The 2 PFP plants are doing well. As you can see the canopy looks very healthy. With the exception of 1 plant showing some deficiencies I think I'm in for a great harvest. I also decided to do a lite feed of Chitosal. It's not in the nutrient database but I have used it previously and the terps your plant can produce from this stuff is pretty dam good. I bought a small bottle that makes 50L. So some of the MZ will get a treatment and my PFP's will get 2.
Well this is it. As of today I'm cutting off all feeds and starting the flush. I won't be updating for a while until it's in the bag so to speak. PFP is purpling up very well. As well as a few MZ. Hairs are starting to brown and the frost is really coming in.
These pictures were taken on the day of chop. There was a 2 week flush done with floral kleaner. PFP was again a joy to grow it was just too bad that I only had 2 plants that weren't vegged out as long as I wanted. MZ was a fantastic strain to grow smells wonderful light and floral. Please read my harvest report for smoke effects taste and thoughts.
Another run at PFP in the books. Man I love this strain. So happy I still have a few beans left of it. I'm yet to test but when I do I'm sure I will hit 30% again.
