16/10/18 Day 1
Really excited to try the new Barney's Farm USA line - this seemed like one of the best to start with. Germed a couple days ago, all 4 of them popped and straight into jiffy pellets they go. Will keep in the flowering tent for about 5 days before changing the light to 18/6 - don't really have any other choice and I need to get as much overlap as possible to ensure efficiency. Gave them a tiny bit of rhizo and I can definitely see the effects. Proper updates from next week.
27/10/18 Day 11
Excellent growth from all four plants, with one being slightly larger than the other three. A little early to say but potentially a different pheno to the others, which is both exciting and a little annoying at the same time but again, it's too early to say. Slight nute burn on the two rear plants, been following CANNA's recommended guide for coco growers but seems to be on the stronger side, will reduce ppm by 100, hopefully should be the end of these issues.
01/11/18 Day 16
Topped all of the plants yesterday, the plant at the rear left is definitely a different pheno, bloody huge! i'm a little worried i've overcrowded the tent which i'm not too concerned about right now but i know it will be an issue temping temps and humidity down during flower. Happy with results so far. Not done any LST but will bend them over when they've recovered from the topping.
11/11/18 - Day 26
All 4 looking great, although I've been making a very common noob error - I've been watering my plants with the same solution and about a week ago, I noticed the smallest plant (top right) getting nute burn so i reduced the ppm and now my largest plant is showing deficiencies 😔 so I've decided to stop being lazy and water my two largest plants with one solution and the smaller two with an 80% strength solution so as to avoid both scenarios. one of the plants had SEVEN tops after the first topping, i've decided to remove one of them and so should have a nice thick canopy on side quadrant. Havent done any LST yet as it's been so daunting to actually take each pot out and tie each branch down so i'm gonna start that a little later but luckily the LED's have been doing a great job at keeping the plant small, gradually incrasing hieght to ensure there's no light burn. Will be switching to flower end of week 5/beginning of week 6- more updates soon!
25/11/18
Looking great for week five, have flipped to 12/12 will update when flowers form - I'd imagine week 6 will be when it all starts speeding up. All doing well bar the occasional deficiency - more updates in Week 6.
02/12/18 - Day 7 Flower
The canopy is really filling out but quite uneven so even though I have flipped to flower, I have supercropped the tallest 5-6 colas and bent them into a more suitable space - and more importantly evened out the canopy. This should allow me to bring my light a little further down and really get the penetration I need for the lower budsites. Just following the schedule, the next two weeks are really where it starts getting interesting - more updates in Week 7.
Lots of heavy defoliation this week - really trying to get as much light down to the lower budsites as possible. I know LEDs don't have excellent penetration and this isn't even a powerful LED so the girls need as much help as they can get. Otherwise going very well. None of them seem to have any deficiencies, watering about once a week, More updates in week 8.
25/12/18 Week 5 Flower
Merry Xmas! All 4 plants are doing well, growth seems to have slowed down so I think the next few weeks are just packing on weight and then ripening. Gonna give them all some pk 13/14 on Friday - had a small problem with fungus gnats in my bathroom which eventually led them into my grow tent. Been waiting extra long between waterings to minimize the chance of them spreading - I know they love wet, mouldy coco. Got some peroxide just incase they become a problem any way. Looking to chop 15th-22nd Jan, depending on how the trichomes are looking. Lots of users commenting on how much weight GZ packs on, really hoping to get some nice dense golf-balls. My previous grow, which was two plants yielded just under 1.5oz, would really love to see a yield around 2.5oz with my current 4 plant set-up. Merry Christmas - more updates in the new year!
02/01/18 - Week 7 / Day 38
Added PK 13/14 last week as per the CANNA COCO schedule I've been following for this grow - the buds look a little more plump and I cant wait to see what the next few weeks have in store. The smell is amazing - sweet and citrusy, with a candy aroma. There is great variation in the smell of the resins from the 4 GZ plants - one of them smells like a sweet tangerine while others smell less citrusy and more sharp/pine smelling. There doesn't seem to be much of a variation in phenotype, one has a great inter-nodal distance and the other three look about the same in terms of stature. Two look identical in the shapes of their bud, one has very GG4 looking buds and the last one has the least developed buds. I think this is because it has the most lateral growth and multiple bud sites which cant get the light from the canopy - I got a little greedy and didn't want to trim these away when defoliating early flower but I looking back I regret not doing that as the other three (which didn't have nearly as many smaller side branches) are doing excellently. Alternatively, this plant could just be a couple days behind lol. More updates on 8th. Happy New Year!
10/01/18 - Day 46 Flower
Absolutely stinks in the garden - a very sweet citrus smell but you can most certainly make out the GG parent, a sharp chemical aroma. Cant wait to harvest these, only a week or two left. No problems with any deficiencies throughout the grow so hope it's smooth sailing till the end.
17/01/19 - Day 53 flower
Started the flush last week, been feeding just pH'd water and the colors are already starting to fade; lots of autumn hues as the larger leaves start to get leached. The buds themselves are turning a pinkish/purple hue and the trichomes are mainly milky, 10% amber. They look amazing, 3/4 have thick stacked buds and the 4th plant is a little thinner but that's only because I didn't prune it as much but fortunately it has more budsites. They'll be ready in a few days but I'll probably be harvesting on 23rd.
Excellent stuff - really got me stoned. A nice cerebral high which slowly progresses to the extremities! Yield was slightly disappointing, I thought I managed to clear two ounces but was just shy of that. I am growing another one currently and will be starting my Orange Sherbert diary soon.
Will definitely grow again. Harvested some earlier than others, really tried to get an idea of how much of a difference what point of the harvest window you harvest makes to the effect. Very high quality genetics - big thanks to Barney's Farm! 👌
Hey man, nice job! Do you not use calmag? RO water? Im using canna nutes and having problems. it is also my first grow in coco but im just wondering if those ecs in your diary are total ecs including source water or if that's the ec on top of the source. ]
@justanobody, hi mate, I don't use any calmag because my area has very hard water and no i just tap water. The EC's reported in the diary weren't very accurate but I can tell you that I followed the COCO grow schedule as recommended by CANNA. It's a great, comprehensive schedule which can really help you get the results you want esp when coupled with some powerful lights. if you're have nutrient problems, flush your plants with plain pH'd water (about 10-15L per plant) and then give a final watering with a half feed of Rhizotonic to help your roots destress. after a week or so you can introduce the new schedule and you should be okay,
Looking nice man, it’s an awesome plant to grow. I’ve got one at about the same stage now and am impressed more every day a zip open my door. Good luck in the last few weeks and man what a smoke that’s gonna be✌️🏻😋✌️🏻
Yep buds are very dense and big, like tennis ball shaped almost.
When smoked it smells like someone is roasting a pine cone next to ya, very dank I say! 😅
@LongJohn420, fantastic - they already have a candy orange smell to them, and a nice piney resin when you rub the stems. really aiming to keep temps down to preserve as many of these terps as possible
Looks good. You gonna get huge amount of nice bud with awesome painkiller gualities. My back likes this one and so do I 👌👊😎
Good luck with the grow. Easy strain by any means.
Cool thanks for the info, Will keep an eye on ya diaries...keep up the great passion of growing my friend, will get a grow of something going soon myself for sure, will try and look for something more stealth for now though, can't take the risk @ the moment. 👍
Hey Truro looking sweeet, can you give us an update on the smell profile as of now, is it a stinker? If I were to open the closet door would my roomies next door get a wiff of this? :)
Hi!
There is a reason why you top them so early? Have you ever tried to make a side to side compare?
I always wait longer.
I do lst and, cause of small space, i sometimes fucked up and make an accidental topping.
I always try to clone the broken top, even if will come out a small plant (internal clock will not stop 99% of the times), it's a free plant to put in a corner or below a window.
If i do not fuck up, I then always go for the fim, because a bad fim is a topping anyway :)
@Truro, Hi! No problem :)
I am growing autoflowers, so for me is even more important to find "the right time".
I want to minimize the recovery time/stress for the plant to make it the fastest possible.
@OneDude, hello! apologies for the delay in replying, I top them early because I am short on time in the vegetative stage and wanted to push into bloom in the best manner I could and sometimes this includes topping early. All 4 plants are doing excellently at this stage and have 2/3 times the number of colas that they would have otherwise had, with two plants have 8 tops each, not including lateral growth. I firmly believe this was due to me giving them as much time as I could to recover, something that invariably happens if you top early but still maintain a normal grow schedule. hope that answers your question
