- This grow will be used to test the new setup:
> HLG 135 QB
> 60x60x140 tent
> 4 inch RVK 100
> Rhino Pro 4 inch filter
- Additionally I want a quick turn around, so I don't expect big yields. I'll also be experimenting with different soils that can be sourced from local garden centres and using Biobizz Grow and Bloom for the first time.
- First seedling has become very sick. Unsure of what factors contributed to this, but I assume it was using Westlands seedling soil. Lesson learnt, never again. Re-potted into Westlands Jacks Magic soil, so the soil experiment continues. Eventually transplanted into the 10L fabric pot with the same soil.
- Germ'ed a second seedling, same strain in case the first does not survive.
- Sick seedling starting to show more normal growth so at this point I won't get rid of it.
- Second seedling is healthy and happy, no nutrient burn from the soil so possible use in the future.
- Getting to grips with the QB light, trying to find a wattage that isn't too strong for either plant. Wattage meter in use from now on, roughly 65 W currently.
- LST started this week.
- No plans to top as I don't want to stress either plant too much. The recovering plant I want to leave alone and I plan to flip soon. I want to hurry this grow along so neither would get enough veg time before flip to recover from topping.
- Achieved a pretty decent canopy with some very basic LST.
- Original sick plant has a lighter shade of green on the leaves compared to second plant and previous grow. Will keep an eye on her. She has definitely recovered but I don't think she will be 100% during this grow.
- Light turned up to 100w.
- 2 lower leaves on previously sick plant showing odd discolouration. Possible iron/mag deficiency? Doesn't seem to be spreading so will keep an eye on her.
- Do not drop your cheap eBay PH meter into a glass of water because it break it. Currently using indicator paper while I wait for a replacement!
- If you said "it's Nitrogen deficiency ya dumbass" then you would be correct! Previous grows used a hotter soil, so I had never actually encountered it before. A dose of Bio-Grow on the last few feeds has corrected it, colour has returned to the new growth on the colas of the right hand plant.
- Scent is coming through now, beautiful pine and sweet smell.
- Cola growth steady and starting to pick up a little this week.
- Nitrogen deficiency sorted, in fact has gone slightly the other way with some nutrient burn starting to show. Will pull back Nitrogen back in future feeding, we're due a flush soon anyway.
- Bud production is coming along nicely, bulking up nicely!
- Trichs are 20% cloudy, 80% clear.
- Big flush mid week.
- Showing signs of nutrient burn from the Nitrogen correction in earlier weeks. Flush will fix that and confirmed by the lower leaves starting to turn yellow as the plant pulls from the last of it's stored nutrients.
- Colas fattening up really nicely! Very dense and due to not topping, the main cola is BIG.
- I noticed a sudden production of new pistils and trichomes post flush, interesting.
- 95% cloudy, 5% amber. Harvest planned in 3-4 days.
This strain never fails to disappoint. Used primarily to treat insomnia and anxiety, which is does fantastically. Stoned feeling eases in slowly and is never overbearing. Dense, sticky buds hold their moisture well passed curing stage and can be stored in a really nice condition for a long time. This can make grinding up fairly difficult.
Strong smells of pine and herbs. Smokes really smooth and leaves a thick, skunky smell, definitely not a strain for covert smoking!
- I wish I had topped, definitely a missed opportunity. A big, dense main cola is fun to look at but ultimately is a determent to final yield. This additionally leads onto a very tightly packed canopy at the peak of the plant, which made the colas towards mid section of the stem to be smaller due to less light.
- Due the tight canopy, lower popcorn buds (which I still like to use) were very small and under developed. I should have removed this early on to conserve nutrients and boost to cola growth.
- I got on great with Westlands Jacks Magic soil, I recommend it if you are looking for a soil you can buy locally.
@HighRoller909, Aha! Thank you. I originally wasn't keeping a diary of this grow but I realised recently that I missed writing an entry each week, on top of how useful a diary is for keeping track of things.

@Megumin, You will not regret purchasing that light, it's fantastic. And thank you for the kind words!
The reason for not going full power is heat mainly. I grow in a small space (60x60x140 tent) in a warm house and at full power I was seeing temps go up to 30c+ in the day. At 100w I see temps of around 25-26c.
When I got the light I looked up guides and advise, generally it seems most people tend to run at 80%-90% power. They also use the light to regulate heat (hotter = turn up the wattage and move the light away. Cooler = turn the wattage down and move the light closer).
For me personally it's all about balancing internal temperatures and exhaust fan noise, so I choose to run the fan slower to reduce noise which in turn increases the temperatures. I just set the light to whatever wattage fits within that. I stand to be corrected though, so do not take my word for it! On my current grow I am running the light at a higher wattage and plan to go about 90% max (about 120w).
@Squidlin, Thank you for the great explanation my friend, that makes perfect sense now.
Everyone has said the same thing about the lights so I ended up buying another. Like you I grow for a chronic disability so I dont have to grow much and intend on using 1 HLG per plant.
I just had a look at your Critical Mass again and my lord those nugs are stunning.
Good luck with your next grow my freind.
