Plant 1 (April): Fast Buds OG Kush

MunichGrasfabrik The Grass Factory project has started with the April plant. I chose the OG Kush Auto from Fast Buds because I'm a fan of indica plants. Good luck little plant. 12.04. I'm adding to this week with the ED (see week 2)

MunichGrasfabrik Welcome back to the grass factory. -The experiment is entering week 2. -About 12 weeks left until the factory starts production. (This is torture) -There's a little seedling in the tent. The first week of the experiment is over: * Well, not much has happened yet. You can't really say it's stretching. * I hope it picks up. A false start would be frustrating. * The plant is being watered with a spray bottle, keeping the soil moist. * The light is 320 µmol strong. * I want to keep the humidity below 65% in the future. The seedling stays under a plastic cup (humidity about 80%) * The night phase is from 11 PM to 5 PM. 10.4.: *The plant is growing, everything seems to be fine. Today I thought about the absurdity and inequality of the new cannabis law: -If I were rich, I could buy and consume 50 grams every month. -But that's hardly possible with home cultivation. Even if you harvest 50 grams a month, you still have the 3 weeks where the buds need to dry and cure. How are you supposed to plan the cycle so that you have 50 grams for consumption every month? -It would be better if you could possess 50 grams of cured cannabis and 50 grams of uncured cannabis, then I could smoke the penultimate batch while the last batch cures. After a lot of back and forth, I developed a harvest plan (see picture). This way, I can reach my 50 grams a month, but only under the following conditions: * Cannabis that is currently drying does not count towards the 50 grams. * I have to consume mostly uncured cannabis. But that doesn't align with the intent of the law. It aims to produce high-quality cannabis. Alright, I'll stick to the plan. Let's see how practical it is. I will post a harvest cycle data sheet (ED) every week, comparing the planned dates with the current dates. So currently 1 plant, week 2, vegetative phase. My first criticism of the cannabis law: If you want to limit to 50 grams per month, then there needs to be a possession cap of 100 grams. It would only work differently if you consume a lot of uncured cannabis. You need 50 grams of cured cannabis and 50 grams of uncured cannabis that still needs to mature. In the picture for the harvest plan, I've included a comparison of what it would be like if we had a cap of 100 grams. Then we would produce 52 grams of cured cannabis and 48 grams of uncured cannabis every month. I assumed that I consume 12 grams a week. But I will stick to the legal regulations and settle for uncured cannabis for now. This means that out of the 300 grams of cannabis I consume, only 190 grams are cured.

(Not until July) - There’s a little seedling in the tent. The second week of the experiment is over: * It seems a bit behind, but things are happening. I’m hopeful. * I water it every 3 days with a splash of nutrient solution. * In between, I spray the plant with water for the specific humidity (75%). April 14th. In the meantime, I've learned a bit about Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD). If anyone is interested, they can check it out here (https://2fast4buds.com/de/news/was-ist-vpd-vapor-pressure-deficit-dampfdruckdefizit-und-wie-berechnet-man-es). At this stage of development, I don’t need a VPD yet because the seedling is kept under a plastic dome for high humidity. But it will get interesting in the future, and I can practice handling it now. Anyway, I've created a VPD chart and attached it here as an image. Normally, VPD charts have the VPD values in the boxes, but that’s only for pros, which I don’t need. The marked areas for the 3 phases of development are important (not exactly matching the 3 phases I introduced for the nutrient solution). The unmarked white areas are where no growth occurs anymore, if I understood correctly. So here’s the thing: The lights heat the tent to about 31°C. If I had a humidity over 85% or under 55%, then no growth would happen. The optimal humidity would be between 60-65%. That would be ideal for late flowering, and the younger plants can still be sprayed a bit to achieve slightly higher humidity. And for the smallest ones, there’s the plastic dome. This can be regulated with the dimmer for the fan, or by adding moisture to the tent floor and spraying. The little hygrometers (the thing in the pot) are very useful. Especially for keeping the humidity at 55-65% during drying and curing. I’m using BioBizz Light Mix as soil and a granulate for drainage. I will later use the 12-liter Air Pot pots. By the way, I have no advertising contract or anything like that. I can also hardly assess the quality of my equipment; I’m still too inexperienced for that. Otherwise, I can hardly wait until the tent is full of big plants (There will always be 2 big ones and one small one). I’m sitting in front of the tent now, watching the little beginning and longing for summer.

The third week of the experiment is over: * The development of the plant is fine, it’s just a bit stunted. But it will be okay. * Hard to believe that the vegetation will be over in a week. * The plastic cover is now gone. * In between, I spray the plant with water for the specific RH (about 75%). * I try to maintain a temperature of about 30° C in the tent and keep the RH around 65%, of course only during the day phase. * I’ve adjusted the ED regarding the first harvest a bit. I will start consuming from week 15. This results in slight shifts but no actual changes. April 22. Practicing with the settings for RH and temperature seems necessary. During the transition from day to night phase, the RH spikes up and you have to dim the fan accordingly. The reverse is true when transitioning from night to day phase. It’s not particularly complicated, but you have to be present. For me, that’s no problem. The temperature is about 30° C during the day phase and about 22° C during the night phase. To prevent the expected high summer temperatures, I’ve set the night phase to the midday heat between 12 PM and 4 PM. That’s 20 hours of day and 4 hours of night phase. It’s said that auto plants need between 18 and 22 hours of light, so I’m taking the middle ground. If summer gets hot, I can then increase the night phase to 6 hours. Summer can become very critical for indoor growing (high temperatures and humidity). What I’ve heard is that organic fertilizers make things much easier. You mix it into the soil at the beginning and then you only need to water during the vegetation phase. You don’t even have to adjust the pH. There’s also something similar for the flowering phase. I think I’ll use up my remaining mineral fertilizer supplies and in about a year, I’ll try organic fertilizer. April 23. Today I topped the main stem. See pictures. I want to have 4 to 8 (somewhat smaller) main stems instead of one main stem and many little stems, as this increases the yield. Unfortunately, this is quite a stress for the plant, which is why many don’t do this with an auto plant (so I’ve heard), because it hardly has time to recover from the stress. But I’ve been told that it’s okay, the plant recovers quickly. The goal is to have a low and bushy plant with a high yield instead of a tall and narrow plant. Once the plant has recovered and grown a bit, I’ll start bending the branches to bring as many colas into the light as possible. In the end, there are 6 main stems. You can also see that such a trained plant sticks out far from the pots. In small tents, this is a problem. You can’t bend the branches out too much. If you do some lollipopping at the end, you’ll get a stout plant with 120 g yield. I’m sure I won’t manage that well, don’t need 120 g, but I’ll do my best. April 24. The plant has recovered super well. The two replacement shoots for the cut main shoot are already growing. Today I put the plant in the final 12 L pot. The soil was well interspersed with roots. - Very nice, looks good. April 28. Today I did a little research on why I can’t get the tent temperature down from 31° C. I found out that you shouldn’t let the hygrometer/thermometer be directly illuminated by the lamp, but rather look for a shady spot. I’ve now lightly covered the hygrometer with a piece of paper. The temperature immediately dropped by 3 degrees. I think the best method to control the climate is to have the fan regulate the temperature and add any missing humidity with a humidifier (outside, inside would be too much). In the night phase, I need to heat the room more.

The fourth week of the experiment is over: * The plant has grown tremendously in the last 2 days. * No flower threads are visible yet, so this week remains green (vegetation). * I now also have a graph of the VPD values in kPa (vapor pressure deficit). * I'm worried about the summer and the hot days. April 29. I've started with the first LST measures and used skewers to push the leaves to the side so that the new replacement shoots (6 in total) get enough light. I would like to limit the maximum temperature to 28° C, but that seems impossible. It's mostly 32° C. That's not too bad, but the plant might lose some flavor because of it. However, I can prevent the temperature from dropping to 19° C during the night phase. In the future, I will try to keep it around 24° C. Regulating the temperature and humidity is difficult. A control unit would be useful. But since I can't afford an expensive control unit right now, I've ordered the Govee humidifier for now. It can connect with my hygrometer and automatically regulates the humidity. That would be a big relief. Then I would only have to pay attention to the temperature, which is much easier because the temperature reacts more slowly. Plus, I could pump more heat out of the tent if the RH is automatically adjusted. So, fingers crossed. We'll see. April 30. I've started bending the shoots. In the photo, you can now see the radial arrangement of the 6 shoots. I also believe I've spotted the first threads of flowering. So, I've now set this week to the flowering phase. I'm eagerly waiting for my automatic air pollinator, which is supposed to arrive today. The days are getting warmer, and I should turn up the fan, but then the humidity collapses immediately. I've followed every tip to get the heat out of the tent, including darkening the windows. Last night was terrible: First, I had to stand there for half an hour to regulate the RH, and then you also want to sleep. In the morning, the RH was at 81%. I should actually get up every hour to prevent that. I don't know how others do it, but I need some automation to get through the summer. An automatic humidifier is the least I can do. Today it's supposed to be 27 ° C here; tomorrow 25 ° C. And it's not even summer yet.

But one thing at a time. I've had a few frustrating days. I mentioned that I bought an automatic humidifier. But when the device arrived, it was defective and I had to exchange it first. But then the idea turned out to be a complete success. I find that adjusting the humidity manually with the fan doesn't work. An automatic humidifier is a must. Of course, a control unit would be even better. Last week, I showed how I wanted to bend the shoots with a, how silly, package string with a loop. I hope no one copied me because I ended up strangling a shoot. It didn't look nice at first because of the gap. But now the plant has started to grow. The gap is closed again. It could still yield a good harvest. I've also thought about the absurd regulations in CanG during my slightly depressed days. No one should think I'm doing this to show that you can live with this CanG. Even if my harvest plan should work out, which I don't believe, I still face my conscience that says you shouldn't follow absurd and pointless rules. I advise no one to stick to the rules. But I will keep going with this nonsense for now and see what comes of it. The CSU now wants to make smoking in public impossible in Bavaria, the dreamers. First, they banned smoking at Oktoberfest. To which Mayor Reiter said he was annoyed because Oktoberfest is a Munich affair and only Munich could impose a ban. But that won't happen because the Munich city council is pro-cannabis. But I'm also dying of impatience for the first harvest. Controlling the climate in the tent has become really easy with the automatic humidifier. I might need a stronger fan to push the temperature below 29 degrees at some point. But that's for later; for now, I'm very satisfied. The LST has been successful. A crown full of shoots has formed. The middle and lower part of the plant has already been somewhat defoliated. The crown will later be supported with a plant ring made of wire, allowing the new shoots to protrude inward and outward. We'll see. Maybe I'll change my mind at the last minute. Fortunately, there are no signs of deficiencies or diseases. ✊🙏 Smoking in Bavaria is all the rage!!! May 23rd. I've now put a plant ring in the pot so I can direct the shoots outward. And I've heavily defoliated from the middle and the bottom. Especially the large leaves at the bottom have been removed to ensure the shoots get light from all sides. I'm also starting with lollipopping. I don't want many small buds; I'd rather have a few, but large buds. Regarding the 50g limit: I've heard that the 50g that everyone can possess is only for ready-dried cannabis flowers (or products derived from them, like hash). Now a 3rd plant has moved in. A Northern Light Auto from RQS. It has grown well. Since the 2nd plant has started to flower, I now have 2 female plants in the tent. The 3rd plant is still in vegetation and doesn't count. The difference could soon be important. If the 1st plant is delayed, I want to proceed on time with the 4th plant. Then I would have 4 plants in the tent, but only 3 are female. Just as the law requires. Then there's the gray area with the frozen plant parts (not dried), which can't be counted towards the 50g possession limit. At least, until the judges have clarified things. I'm getting happier with this prospect. I've done some calculations and also estimated based on past consumption. I need about 2.5 to 3g. If necessary, then just 2g. That would be 60g NET per month, better would be 90g. No one should think that I just walk around all day talking nonsense. Not at all, I sometimes say something intelligent - I believe. No, people don't notice that I've consumed anything. Except maybe late at night. So I'm not a chain smoker. The problem is simply that a vape load doesn't last long. At most half an hour. That's why I want some reserve. Yes, I then have a drying net and two jars that are kept in the dark (important! It must be dark during curing). One is labeled H1 and the other H2. That stands for curing week 1 and curing week 2. And I do this in a weekly rhythm: 1. Take the contents of H2 for consumption. 2. Place the contents of H1 into jar H2 3. Place the contents of the drying net into jar H1 4. If no harvest: Take a bag from the freezer and put the contents into the drying net 5. But if there is a harvest: Take the 1/5 portion of the plant and place it in the drying net. I then have a week's supply and still have a week's supply in H1 and H2. Three weeks' supplies should not exceed 50g. Shouldn't be a problem. Yes, I think this way I can produce my own needs factory-style. And I would practically harvest weekly. And only cured grass. That would be great. Legally, this is all perfectly fine – I'm sure of it. My gut feeling tells me so. I now have a new harvest plan (see picture). She stands out more there and gets more light. Oh yeah - I’m not setting any more harvest schedule dates. With the twist of the TK, the timing of the harvest is no longer that important. The only important thing is that no more than 3 plants are flowering at once. But even that prevents huge harvests. But we are much more flexible now. I’m thinking a bit about whether I might switch to photoperiod plants. Not because I think it’s absolutely necessary. It’s not about more yield. It’s about passion, because that will now be my main hobby. It’s about variety, self-determination instead of auto, etc. But it’s just a fleeting thought. It would also be terribly expensive. It’s not worth it. But when is a hobby ever worth it? Nah - that’s too much at once. 8.6. The leaves of the plants are turning yellow. A sign that they are in late flowering. Ideally, the leaves should be almost all wilted by harvest. So don’t panic if you see something like this. - Man, there’s a lot going on in the grow shops. And it’s been like this since April. Everything sold out. Yeah, it’s like it always is, once something is in my head, it comes out soon. So I’ve decided to switch to photoperiod plants: For this, I’ll use my old 60x60 tent as a propagation tent, where I’ve already been growing tomatoes... The plant will stay there until it’s sent into flowering. The plants in the propagation area count as propagation material. You can have 7 of those (cuttings or seedlings). I might also keep a mother plant there if necessary. But plants from seeds are better, no clones. The propagation tent will have the 80-watt lamp. That was already in there. As a replacement for the missing tent in the big tent, I’m buying a second sanLight EVO 3-60. Very expensive, but light is extremely important for the quality of the product. That’s why I don’t want to skimp here. In the flowering tent, the plants have a light intensity of 600 - 1000 µmol. The propagation area has received a strong fan (Aygrochy 100) with a controller. For the big tent, I ordered an AC Infinity fan T6 with a controller. I also want to use 20-liter pots. So far the plan - Uff, now I have to save up again. Now everything has to come first. Then I still need to think of a transition phase. The next plant will definitely be a photoperiod one. ---- One more word about Bavaria, the world’s most beautiful stoner paradise. In Munich, a few young people from the resistance group against Söder had a brilliant idea: They want to found a Cannabis Social Club. I mean a real CSC on a club basis. I've flushed the plant now, meaning I've watered it with plenty of pH-balanced water and enzymes. I'll do another flush with some pH water in 3 and 6 days, and then, depending on ripeness. I check the ripeness with a pocket microscope. 5 days before the harvest, the plant gets no more water. I let it dry out. This water stress brings some extra quality. -- 10.6. The first harvest is now just about to happen. The right time to talk about the experiences I've had so far. What tent size would I recommend? * For the 'I only smoke occasionally and want to grow a plant here and there': Balcony, please so that Söder can see it. * For the 'I don't have much space and don't smoke that much': 60x60cm * For the 'I want to harvest as much as possible with auto plants as cheaply as possible.': 80x80cm or 120x60cm * For the 'I want to be as flexible as possible with the freedom I have (thanks to CanG).': 80x80cm or 120x60cm and a veg tent (40x40cm or 60x60cm) What light? There are many videos on YouTube about light in the grow tent. The size and potency of the buds depend significantly on the light source and its spectrum. That's why we chose the 2 sanLight, which are not too expensive. There are also other very good lamps besides sanLight, but they don't come cheap either. Having 2 different lights in the big tent made it easier to have plants at different stages in one tent since I can light each plant individually by adjusting the height of a lamp and/or using platforms. However, if I switch to photoperiod plants, the big tent simply needs strong light for flowering around 1000 µmol. A PAR meter is great. How can I control the climate in the tent? My wish would be a temperature of about 28 degrees and a humidity of around 70%. Then I would have a VPD value of 1.2 kPa. That's how it should be in the future; until now, I always aimed for a value of 1 kPa. But at my location, 28 degrees isn't possible; it's more like 30-32 degrees. With 70% humidity, that's also fine. Only the THC strength decreases a bit. As far as I understand. Getting the temperature and humidity under control is hardly possible without electronic help. Sure, you don't have to do it so meticulously, but then the plant doesn't grow that well either. How to train? Basically, I keep my plants flexible. I don't use a net for SCROG. Instead, I stabilize the shoots with a plant ring. In weeks 3-5, I cut the main shoot (topping). When the new replacement shoots are big enough, I bend and press the shoots with bonsai wire, creating a ring of shoots. Later, I remove the wires and use a plant ring. The ring pushes the shoots outward so that new shoots can spread out in the center. As soon as the plant enters flowering, I gradually start to free the lower part of the plant from leaves and lollipops so that plenty of light and air can get through below. How to water and fertilize? I never water in the tent. Instead, I take a tub and water outside. I water every 3 days, regardless of what stage they are in. I estimate based on the weight whether they have enough water. I use mineral fertilizers. Maybe I'll try something organic someday. But so far, the rule is: Never change a running system. On watering day, the tent is also thoroughly cleaned with a cleaner. If you do this regularly, it's hardly any work, and it reduces the risk of germs and mold. --- 11.6. Oh my, man oh man. Who would have thought it would go so quickly now? After the European elections, the power dynamics in Germany have changed radically.
