Seed was soaked for 24 hours in water with a drop of Liquid Oxygen till it sank, a small root had broken from the capsule by this point. To avoid the soil being too hot for the developing seedling, a coco plug was first hydrated and then soaked in 1g/l of Ecothrive Biosys before the seed was planted in it, 1-2mm below the surface. The plug was then planted level in the soil. Pot is a 5gal Grassroots Living Soil fabric pot, with Pre-mixed Living Soil: AUTO by Living Soils Fertiliser with added lava rock and Black Pearl charcoal soil builder

D1-3 - Seedling has emerged and true leaves are now showing, it was planted off-centre with the aim of bending it over with LST. It’s been a while since I did a grow, but the cotyledons look darker than I remember them being, could be excessive nitrogen, but otherwise looking healthy. No additional water added yet. Plastic cup is still in place, so I have been brushing the seedling a couple of times a day. D4-7 - Plastic cup was removed and a humidifier connected to a hygrometer outside of the tent was add to the set-up. Hygrometer is set to 62% RH but in reality fluctuates between 58-63% RG. No water has been given yet as the soil mix was fully saturated before the seed was planted. Small imperfections/burns can be seen on the true leaves, possibly due to the hot soil coming into contact with the emerging seedling. DLI will be adjusted for week 2

D8-14 - The plant continues to grow slowly in height and more true leaves are developing with the second pair having 3 fingers. It is showing no signs of stress. Still no water added yet as the soil moisture sensor is reading within the moist to moderately moist range (50-120 mbar). I have been spraying the soil surface with dechlorinated water to stop it becoming too dry and hydrophobic before its first watering, using a plastic cup to prevent the seedling getting wet. By day 14, the soil has reached above 100 mbar which on the ecothrive page is the suggested range for early veg (100-120 mbar). Soil pH is a little low at 5.9 so going ahead, I will monitor and maybe adjust for it’s first water in the next couple of days.

D15-21 - A CO2 bag was added to the tent for the third week and DLI was increased to 25. The plant has grown quickly this week, coming out of its seedling stage and grown to about 9 cm in height, increasing its DLI as it gets closer to the light. It was watered on D18 with about 750ml of water mixed with Ecothrive Biosys mixed at a rate of 1ml per litre. This was way too much water, due to inexperience with living soils, and the reading on the soil moisture probe dropped to around 50mbar. The plant didn’t seem to be adversely affected (perhaps stunted slightly) and by D21 has increased to 70, suggesting there is now a more complex root system that is taking up the water. Next week should hopefully see more impressive growth as well as receiving its second water since germination.
