What's good homies! Just finished up the Hubbabubbahaze x Livers from mephisto and as always its was fire. Next up on the list is Chemdogging. I'm a huge fan of the Chemdog line and have previously run a Chemdog D by CSI Humboldt which is one of my favorite plants ever. I'm excited to see what she does and how similar she is to the D.
I germinated her using the glass of water/paper towel method with 100% success. She opened up no problem :D.
As always, planted her in her final 10 gallon pot. I removed the a bit of soil from the middle and threw some Light Warrior and Happy Frog in there just so the seedling isn't sitting in Ocean Forest. The rest of the pot is a half and half mix of Happy Frog and Ocean forest.
Week 2 of good consistent growth. You most likely already know the drill, we top around the end of week 2/ beginning of week 3, train as she hits preflower, and then feed her organic dry amendments. See you next week!
Alrighty then. She's growing good. Topped her this week and accidentally took off one of the fan leaves. No big deal. She'll probably enter preflower next week. Once her branches get a bit of length I'll start low stress training.
Forgot to take more photos this week. She responded well to topping and her branches grow longer everyday. I've been slowly training her branches down and will continue to do so until I can't anymore. Pistils are starting to show, indicating she is well into preflower. I expect the stretch to being soon.
Big stretch this week. I wont be LSTing her anymore, as her branches are starting to become a bit more brittle. Fed her half a cup of craft blend and some worm castings as she's pretty much in flower.
She continues to stretch and pistils are forming everywhere. Fed her last week, but noticed some brown spots on her leaves. Kind of looks like either a calmag issue or a PH issue. Leaning towards calmag because the spots have started to appear on newer leaves towards the top.
Re-calibrated my PH pen and confirmed that the PH is okay, so it must be a calmag issue. A bit strange considering my soil and water should have plenty of it in it. Maybe I was a week late on the feeding? Craft Blend also has a bit of calmag.
Gave her a bit of liquid calmag and I immediately noticed an improvement. Leaves praying up towards the light etc.
Calmag issue seems to be fixed. Seems the plant loves the nutrients and environment. Her leaves pray up towards the light and she looks very happy.
Stretching seems to have slowed down. She's incredibly bushy and most of her budsites don't get enough light. I'm not really a fan of defoliating autos, but I probably should.
Only concern seems to be color fading from the top down. She's got enough nutrients, so much that her tips are slightly burned. Think I just may have fed her a few days late. No big deal as she looks incredibly healthy otherwise.
I'm not getting much of a smell yet, which is to be expected from this cultivar. The Chemdog D I grew was also like this, didn't smell until literally the last week or so of flower.
Excited to see her start to stack up. See you next week!
She seems to be stacking up quickly, however her leaves show signs of deficiencies. Maybe I didn't feed enough? Looks like she may be a quick finisher.
Busy week so not alot of pictures. Fed her again probably for the last time. She's starting to look a bit nasty, with lots of yellow and dying leaves. Definitely a record from looking very healthy to very poor.
Her tops look about a week out from being done on day 70. A bit disappointed in the results so far and I'm at a loss for how I could have prevented the leaf damage. Looking in retrospect, I guess I could have fed more, but my feedings are standardized and typically work across nearly all the cultivars I grow. Maybe the pheno I got is a bit more finicky?
Oh well, she is still on track. Probably another week or two until I pull her.
Looks like she's almost done. Started taking the dead leaves off her. Seems like only the top set of leaves are dying which is pretty strange. All the leaves below the top of the canopy are nice and green.
Above average size and density nugs. Lots of larf towards the bottom, however tops are of nice quality. Not the prettiest bud, but somewhat frosty. Smells and tastes a little bit like chemdog with some added sweetness, funkiness, and mint. Kind of reminds me of Mephisto's wedding a little bit. Low yielding and quite finicky. However, the quality of the high is very good. Feels more potent than it is, and has a similar effect to the chemdog photoperiod I know. Big rush to the head followed by a long lasting high.
The pheno I got wasn't the best. She had a bunch of problems which I'm confident wasn't the result of improper nutrition or environment. Somewhat happy with the results however as she is a great smoke . Only yielded about 65 grams, possibly one of the worst yielding plants I've grown. Could have just been the phenotype.
Harvested on day 79. Not too thrilled with her to be honest, but bud is bud. Chopped her and hung her to dry for about two weeks.
Overall this grow wasn't the best. She was small and frail her entire life and I struggled to get her to be happy and healthy towards the end.
The quality of the smoke, high, and taste/feel are all good though despite the low yield. About 65 grams worth of good usable buds. Alot of larf towards the bottom.
Probably won't grow this one again. If I'm itching for chemdog, I'll likely just grow the CSI Humboldt Chemdog D again. Oh well!
