Excited to grow these Purple Afghan Kush! The plan is to veg under the 450W for 3 weeks then get her under the 1200W COB LED for weeks 5 - 8. Will top as needed, maybe do a mainline but will see how fast she grows. Have dropped 2 more seeds today to fill the 4x4 tent. Any suggestions/pro tips welcome!

Great week. Purple kush is moving along well. No nutes yet but will give some this week. Can see some side nodes starting to form. Have it under an LED with just veg switch on. I plan on vegging for at least 6 weeks and topping just once. PPM @ 778 of runoff is with no added nutes, just promix, startIng ppm at 160. Cheers!

Quite a bit of action this week. Transplanted into a 7 gallon cloth pot which will be the final home for P.A.K. Instead of strait promix I decided to dig up some soil from the vegetable garden (amended organic soil) and mixed 50% soil, 30% promix and 20% perilite. Added some blood and bone meal to the mix for added nutes. Will likely use very light feedings of G.O. Grow bottled nutes if any kind of deficiencies start to develop, but will use just ph’d water for now. Also topped to the third node and removed the fist node, leaving 2 & 3 to be the main colas. Plan is to top once more once they get three nodes for a total of 8 colas with likely(and hopefully) a lot of side branching. Will try spread her as wide as possible with some LST. Overall very happy with this weeks progress and going to sit back and watch her grow. Cheers!

Growing well this week. Update a couple days late due to travel. Moved her under the “1000 watt” LED COB lights. Recovered very well after first topping. I kept the second and third nodes off of the main stem. Topped the second nodes at the third. Was supposed to keep 1 & 3 but removed 1 & 2 on one arm and kept 1 & 3 on the other. Will be topping the third off the main stem soon. Pictures will make more sense. No nutes given, watering with pH’d water only. No signs of any issues so I’m happy with the soil for now. Cheers.

Not a full week update, just 5 day. Great growth this week. It has now filled the bag, 12 inch span. Topped all the ends and now have 14 nodes growing in. Tucking the fan leaves which are deep green and pretty tough and stems are nice and strong. Overall looking like a solid plant. Haven’t used any nutes just ph’d water.

Another steady week in veg. Putting on good amount of leaves and trying to spread her out as much as possible. Definitely does not get much height to her. Pulling off some of the big fan leaves and the lower branches. Going to let it veg for at least a couple more weeks. Have a digger going to bring up the humidity. Working like a charm. Cheers!

Growing solidly. Getting decent height, 15 inch diameter and now going to let her veg for another week or two. Trimming off lower shoots to have strong colas. Using pH’d water only.

She really exploded this week. Flipped to 12/12 last night so count down is on for flowering. Cleared away all undergrowth for a clean structure and hopefully big strong cola’s. Still using pH’d water will add some nutes if needed. Ppm of run-off at 1160 with pH at 7.1

First full week of 12/12 complete. Really happy with the canopy at a relatively even height and good spacing of the colas. Slight stretch and very little sign of flowering with only a few white hairs appearing so far (Last grow was a power kush which flowered immediately and aggressively). Dropped the daytime temp this week to be 23 - 24 max and nighttime mins at 17. I suspect/hope the cooler temps will draw good colour out of her. Watering 2.5 gal once per week of no nute adjusted tap water. Starting pH 6.5, ppm 170. Run-off pH 7.64, ppm 931. No signs of any deficiencies or nute lock-out with higher than desired ph range but this is a pure soil grow so higher root level ph is expected and leaves aren’t telling me anything. Keeping lights at 18 inches above canopy with a string dangling to make daily checking easy. Thanks for stopping by. Hope she starts putting on a more exciting flowering show! Cheers!

Another steady week gone by. Seeing leaf tips curling down which I’m not sure if it’s something to correct or just how she’s growing. Everything else looks healthy. Buds developing slowly. Getting some white hairs now. Stretch seems to be slowing down. All in all pretty happy! Cheers.

Seeing the leaf tips clawing a bit. Plant looks healthy, no dark green (too much N). Having full wet / dry cycles. Not adding any nutes so wondering if it’s a sign of a deficiency of some form. Been like this for about a week and no other obvious negative signs. Thanks!

Hey cap, I was scratching my head head too I was like is it overeater ohh though ? No it's not, is it nutes that though? No it's not ... Maybe it is though ? No he's in good shape. You're doing well no nutes no oberwatering that's for sure! What it is though is cold temperatures. No necessarily the environmental temperatures which are on the lower bound of what the plant expects but you're watering solution is real cold for the plant so the roots are getting shocked and think it's colder than it is so they're responding like this . What you want to do is water with water at an optimal 21C and it you'll see the plant recover almost instantly. Hope this helps! 🚀

Seen something really cool. Some white hairs are growing at the base of the fan leaf fingers! Check out the pics! I’m really impressed by these girls. The best part of the grow is now under way. Buds are forming nicely and frosty sugar leaves are showing up. She stretched some more this week and is doing great overall. Clawing leaves are still there but are not getting worse and she’s not showing any negative signs. I worked on the ventilation to get the temps up and I think this boosted her growth. I used tiny amount of flowering nutes with two smaller watering s this week instead of one big one. Used warmer fish tank water to help the roots. Humidity has dropped off to 30% max due to increased temps and more ventilation (she’s starting to smell and I need this to be completely odor free outside of the tent). Runt is really doing well. Showing signs of deficiency which I hope I can correct quickly without shocking the plant. I forgot she wasn’t in amended soil. I wanted to see the performance difference and was supposed to give nutes as needed. Oops.

Steady week. Smells fantastic now. Buds slowly getting longer and filling in. Lots of white hairs popping up and getting frosty. Noticing some slight purple coming in on the edges of the sugar leaves. Losing some lower fan leaves that don’t get light. Nothing concerning, she’s moving along nicely. The second plant is losing a lot of colour, yellowing quite heavily due to lack of nutes, but the buds are filling in much quicker and she’s also very frosty. Interested to see if the starvation diet makes her finish up quicker. I’ve given some bloom nutes but I don’t think I will turn her around but will be enough to keep her going. Cheers!

She smells beautiful! So fruity and sweet. Growth has slowed down now and she’s getting frosty as anything. Some white hairs have turned orange now. Purple coming in slowly on the sugar leaves. Lower fan leaves are turning yellow a bit sooner than I’d like and buds are very slow at bulking up. Runt is almost all yellow now but buds are long and bulking up. Hopefully the big girl follows in her footsteps. I’m cooling down the tent a bit to bring out some colour. Did a pH slurry test and soil pH is 7.6 with ppm 177. Not ideal range but hard to get down at this point in flower. Cheers.

Highlight of the week again goes to the smell and the frosted purpling leaves. The smell is fantastic. The tops are really showing amazing colours now which is quite a sight. The purple sugar leaves covered by crystals is mesmerizing. I find myself staring into the tent with a big smile on my face (being stoned helps!) The top buds are decent, not the biggest I’ve seen but they are showing signs of bulking up which is great. I’ve also noticed that there seems to be a lot of lower bud growth around the height of where she was at the flip, I’m very interested to see how these little nugs turn out at harvest as they could add some unexpected weight to the final count. She is yellowing quite a bit on the lower fans but I’m confident she’s got enough to make it another two weeks before the clippers come out. Will let her go as long as possible without negatively affecting the buds. The second plant is yellowing a lot as a result of low nutrients. Buds are visibly fatter this week so the neglect doesn’t seem to be too detrimental. Lowering the gems in the tent, partly as planned but also due to the smell I’ve had to ramp up the exhaust. Overall another great week of growing. Popped some new seeds and diaries will be up once they are one week old. Cheers!

Update: after freaking out yesterday when I found fan leaves with black ends and all curled over I’ve decided to just remove any bad leaves for now and let the plant keep maturing. In reading online and a few books, my analysis is this is a bad phosphorus deficiency causing necrosis. I’m not going to add any nutes and will just let it be. Buds don’t seem to be getting affected but will chop at any sign of this getting into the buds. Trichomes look about 50% clear 50% cloudy. I will keep her going as long as possible but she could see the axe this weekend. The smell is amazin and colours are very cool. MOSt buds have deep purple colours to them. Deficiency is helping out a bit too! My original concerns: Some of the Leaves are going blackish green on the sides and tips. Some are dry and crunchy and others are damp and folded over. I wiped the black / dark green parts on a white clean paper towel and there was no residue on the paper afterwards. I also looked with my scope and it didn’t look like any spongy growth on the leaves but I don’t often look at leaves at 120x. I clipped all the curled up leaves off. I will see how it looks and if more leaves are badly affected I will chop 10 - 15 days early or keep it going as long as I can. I’m thinking maybe this is leaves dying off because of cold nights (17 degrees). Any insite is much appreciated. Cheers.

Need urgent help. I’m a day short of 7 weeks into flower. Fan leaves are turning yellow at a rapid pace and now a dark green black is forming on fan leaves. Do I chop now or just remove affected leaves? Thanks.

Stickanswered grow question 6 years ago
Hi @Captain_7! This is a normal thing, this process is called "senescence", basically your plant's cells are getting old and will die as the plant is ending its maturation. This is a sign that your buds are taking nutrients in the leaves and your harvest window is getting close. Congratulations, not all the growers do a good flush and have a nice fade on their plants. To find out about your harvest window, you will need to look at the trichomes with the help of a magnifier/microscope. Clear/Transparent/Skinny trichomes mean it's too soon, Milky/Cloudy/Fat trichomes mean the harvest window is open, Amber trichomes mean the harvest window is ending, and THC is degrading. Based on your latest pictures I think you're very close to the finish line, but only you can tell, by having a daily close up inspection. Hope this will help, good luck with the last days and enjoy your harvest! 👊

Chopped her down at 55 days. This was earlier than I planned because the leaves were dying at a rapid pace and the sugar leaves were starting to go too. I didn’t want the buds to be affected. Considering she was grown in an amended organic soil with no added nutes she did very well. I’m sure with a better nute schedule she could be pushed to have a longer flower stage with bigger yields. Overall it was a Great plant to grow. Puts on a real good show and smells amazing. Smell is strong and powerful but in a good way. Due to the smell and a shitty carbon filter I had to vent straight outside which dropped the temp and humidity too low during the first weeks of flower. Once I got temps up she stretched more but it was a bit too late to add more bud. If the temps could be kept up (mid-high 20’s in the day, low 20’s at night) I think she would have flowered stronger. The purple colour came through nicely towards the end which was partly from the cold nights. The buds don’t look as big as I anticipated but she might surprise with weight once she is dried and cured. Smoke report and dry yield will be added in a few days. I’m estimating 2.5 oz per plant once dried but I suspect a great smoke which is what I’m more eager for. Update: yield was better than I thought. The smell is very interesting, almost has a fruity meat smell to it (don’t worry it’s not contaminated). Smoke is fantastic, exactly what I was looking for. Very relaxing in the body and quite strong. Overall very happy with the outcome and will grow again.
