Starting out by germinating directly in substrate with a heat mat. After the seed hatched I transferred it to the (initially planned) final container immediately.
Sow far so good, but some yellowing on the leaves starts to show. At this point the plant probably doesn't like the compost I planted it in... My guess is too many nutrients.
Only one picture, because I left for vacation for two weeks. So my last photo of the plant in healthy condition :( the overwatering and/or compost substrate didn't suit the plant well in the following two weeks...
I installed the scrog net at this point when returning. I realized that the plant was really drowned in water. The 4 lowest leaves turned yellow, I had to remove them soon. At least the plant grew a little bit in spite of the conditions.
The plant is not growing very fast. The overwatering really damaged it, and I repotted it in order to get the soil a bit dryer in the process. I also found some flies which apparently hatched in the compost, and due to the wet conditions multiplied fast... The temperatures are rising, and my hope is that it will push the growth.
The goal for the next week is to save whatever I can. My original plan was to start flower after 6 weeks, but with this growth it doesn't seem possible.
My learnings in the grow so far: Use a different substrate, and keep the plant as dry as possible.
Recovery is going well, you can see the difference in old leafes vs new growth. I'm probably still going to send it to flower soon and push it down with the Scrog net. I don't want to top it though. Probably next week I will switch to flower, and then try with these learnings for my next grow. I'm ok with that since this was kind of a test run and there are still some flies plus it will now finish in hot & humid summer, and I'm not sure how to manage the humidity yet or how it will affect the plant.
This week I was on a small work trip but the plant did very well. I can safely say it recovered from the errors in the beginning although they surely set back the growth.
I am going to send it to flower next week even though it could still grow a lot to fill out the grow tent better. But since it's legal in Germany I am already planning my next grow with three plants which will use the light and time better than just this one plant.
I also watered with nematodes so the fly larvae hopefully get killed. I tried to leave the soil as dry as possible which usually helps with the flies, but my watering is still frequent enough for the flies to survive it seems... Next time I will do some preventative neem oil watering in the beginning of the grow. I had some positive results for other plants with it in the past.
First week of 12:12 hours of light. The smell is getting stronger and I turned on the air flow fan to filter and remove air from the grow tent. Humidity is a lot more stable now. The plant is still growing quite a lot so I could use the scrog net to lower the main branch. I'm looking forward to see how it changes in the next 2-3 weeks.
One final time of lst to create an even canopy in the beginning of the week. At the end now the buds started to emerge after 2 weeks of 12/12. I'm happy how it's turning out after the start that I really messed up.
And another good news, the nematodes did a good job of decimating the flys and today I didn't see any left. But let's see if it stays that way.
Another week goes by and it still stretched a bit more. The buds are becoming a bit bigger and the first sugar is forming on the leaves. Very beautiful to see in my first grow. I'm so excited, but will have to be patient for a while still. Temps are getting high here due to summer heat, but now it cooled a bit again.
Not much else to talk about, no more problems for now, let's hope it stays that way :)
Week 4 of flowering is complete. She is getting frosty!
Seems to be doing well now and still keeps stretching a bit. I really enjoy seeing her now and the smell is getting amazing as well. Trichomes are starting to form more and more. I'll get her through the last couple of weeks and am so excited, but have to be patient for a month or so still...
She's doing well. I see a lot of orange in the buds suddenly! The change in color is pretty dramatic, first time I'm seeing it and it is beautiful. It's pretty surreal still but as the plant is getting closer to harvest I'm starting to realize that my first grow will actually turn into nice weed :D
Another week gone by. Its happening so fast! The plant is not changing too much anymore, some lower leaves are turning yellow which I hope is normal at this stage to transport the nutrients to other parts of the plant. She's looking healthy though and the buds are getting thicker.
Next week I will be busy and the week after on vacation with help for watering again. This also made me decide to invest in some watering solution by ac infinity for the next grow. I'll keep the diary updated and after I return will probably start monitoring the trichomes after 8 weeks of flowering! Exciting times ahead
Another week gone by. She's a beauty now, intense smell when I open the tent.
The buds are getting bigger. I took a first look at them with the magnifying glass to get a feel for the trichomes. I'm seeing some amber already but since the buds are still getting bigger I'm giving her another 1-2 weeks at least. She's had 7 weeks of flowering so far so next week would be the earliest time to harvest when looking at packaging instructions. But I've learned it usually takes longer 😃
Another week gone by. I'm pretty impatient to cut it down because its so small and I want to start 3 new plants (already have the seeds) but it's still too early... She's definitely testing my patience. The buds are getting a little bigger but not by much.
Going to be interesting if it can even crack 10 grams, but I learned a lot with this first run.
Nice smoke, smells fruity and sweet.
I had a disappointing harvest but it's to expected I suppose.
The effects are great though, uplifting and makes you smile. Buds are dense and frosty
Congratulations I'm starting the best hobby in the world I'm sorry it didn't work out for you the way you probably anticipated but we learn from our mistakes and you'll learn every grow just like I am.. I've been growing for only 10 months and I'm still a beginner.. keep it up next run is going to be better .. happy growing ✌️😎
@Hempface86, thanks for the nice comment. You're right, it is a really fun hobby! I'll keep growing and experimenting a bit, I made some mistakes but also learned a lot in this grow, let's see how the next grow will turn out.
@nexuscrypto, I know, I really should have filled it to the top much earlier. I repottet the plant because of overwatering and also had issues with flies, and didn't want to introduce more problems with new soil. The pot is really big, and I didn't realize how important it is. One of my learnings for the next grow. Thanks for your tip!
