Germination

Germany finally decriminalized weed! It is now legal to grow up to three plants per person. We were initially planning on growing 2 plants per person. I might use the term "I" or "my" in the following weeks, but not all of those plants are mine. Getting the seeds: This was an absolute nightmare. Initially, we ordered the seeds via the sensi seeds online shop. They didn't manage to send me my seeds, therefore we canceled the order after 4 weeks. I ended up buying the seeds directly from the Sensi Seeds store in Rotterdam, where they were immediately available. Germination: The purple cookie kush seeds took less than 48h to germinate in a paper towel. Germinating the gelato seeds was way more difficult. I'm not sure if that was my fault or if the seeds were simply of poor quality. In total I tried to germinate 4 gelato seeds and only two actually did. I used a glass of water for 2 seeds and a paper towel for the other two. One of the paper towel seeds germinated, the rest did not. I put the non-germinated seeds in a pot anyway and one of the gelato seeds actually decided to germinate in Week 2.

After I had some issues with the gelato seeds not germinating, things are looking better now. The seedlings are growing fast, especially the gelato seedling. Sanlight ist running at 80W (lowest setting).

The second week was interesting. There are now two gelato plants, because one of the seeds (I had already given up on) decided to germinate at the start of week 2. At the beginning and middle of the week I had problems with yellowed leaves hanging down. I suspected that it was because the soil was not good (I used cheap supermarket soil). Unfortunately, at this point I was still waiting for the soil for the final pots. That's why I gave the two oldest plants a little fertilizer. The plants looked better the next day. The plants are now in their final pots (5L). The soil used for the final pots is sonnenerde.

The plants really like the new soil as they are growing really fast. We'll choose better soil for the seedlings next time. One of the gelato seeds (top left) only germinated last week, but it seems to be doing well.

Overall, everything seems to be going very well at the moment. The plants are growing faster than ever and the space on the sides is getting cramped. We still have plenty of space for them to stretch, but the upcoming week will probably be the last one in veg before we'll switch to 12/12. The roots of the plants already reached the bottom of their fabric pots. Topping: We decided to top the three largest plants (2x PCK, 1x Gelato). This was only done because we wanted the smaller gelato (top left) to catch up a little. I'm curious how that will work out. If all the plants had been the same size, we probably wouldn't have done it, because the space at the sides is already tight. Lamp distance: As the plants grew, we forgot to adjust the lamp distance until the distance was slightly below 30 cm. The upper leafs are currently looking a little stressed as a result, but it is not too bad. Right now the distance to the lamp is 50cm. Fungus Gnats: We added some sf-nematodes to the soil to get rid of fungus gnats. It is unclear where the gnats came from and it could be completely unrelated to the grow. However, we gave the nematodes to all plants so it does not become a bigger problem.

I just noticed that the lower leafs are dying, while other leafs are getting yellowish spots. Is this some kind of nutrient deficiency? The leaf with the yellow spots is near the air intake. They didn’t get any fertilizer except root juice since the soil is still somewhat fresh.

Your plants are in tip top condition So, the issue is. She's eating the closest food source when she can't get it from the soil. So, imo, I reckon you left the soil dry up too often, no your plants don't need to be droopy to shoe this neither. Any dry period, that's the start process of your eating those leafs at the bottom for nourishment.. Just make sure to keep your soil moist. You can let it dry up yes. As that's how roots breath. When soil dries, air is drawn into the sub from that process. But u just let it go a lil too far. No real issue here. If there was any other issue than this. I'd be looking for signs up above, there's none..

This week also went quite very well. The next week will be the first 12/12 week as the space is way too crowded already. We also added a scrog net to spread out the side branches. Humidity: The humidity is currently the main issue. The relative humidity is ~60% during the day and ~75% during the night, which is 10-15 percentage points higher than the room the tent is in. We really want to avoid mold and have already taken a few measures: - We have placed the air supply hose directly under the plants to improve aeration. - The Sanlight 3-60 is now running at 60% to get slightly higher temps. (120W) - We added an additional fan below the plants. - I removed some of the smaller unhealthy leaves. These measures helped a little, but the humidity is still too high. Right now we are planning to add more fans to improve air circulation. The next few weeks will certainly be challenging due to the weather conditions. I really hope that we don't have to get a dehumidifier, but it would be a last resort. We would be happy to get some advice. Watering: It seems like the plants didn't get enough water the past few days. Therefore we'll give them a little more the next few days. Unfortunately this will also increase the humidity, but we'll see how it goes.

The first week of flowering went well. On the first day of this week we changed to 12/12, a few days later we increased the light intensity to 80% (160W). Purple Cookie Kush (40cm) seems to be more stretchy than gelato (35cm). Humidity and temps are still an issue at night. We have increased the air circulation to reduce the risk of mold.

All plants are doing well. The relative humidity is sometimes still above 70% at night. To improve air circulation and prevent mold, we replaced the Secret Jardin Monkey Fan with five PC fans. PCK Height: 55-60cm Gelato Height: 40cm The pck plants look like they need more nutrients than the gelato plants.

This week was challenging. The some of the lower leaves were turning yellow indicating some nutrient problem. At first we were assuming that this was due to a nitrogen deficiency, but it didn't get better with more fertilizer. Therefore we assumed that it must be a phosphorus deficiency and switched the fertilizer to organic bloom liquid and more pk, both from Green Buzz. Now we have a little nutrient burn, but the yellowing seemed to stop or slow down. However, this is not the biggest problem right now. At least one purple cookie kush plants seems to be developing pollen sacs. We are not quite sure how to handle this yet. The gelato plants are doing fine.

I was just inspecting my purple cookie kush plant and noticed that there might be pollen sacs. Am I correct with that assumption? If yes, how would you proceed?

Yes, looks like a hermie.. If the plant is small and you can only find a few pollen sacs, I would just remove the sacs and keep an eye on the plant if more pollen sacs keep growing and keep plugging them off. If the plant isnt too big and you're able to go through the plant regularly and make sure to remove any pollen sacs, it shouldnt have a drastic impact. But naturally if you have lots of plants and the hermie is able to pollinate the other plants, you will be finding a lot of hermie seeds in your buds.

Right at the start of the week we had to get rid of one hermie PCK. One purple cooki kush and two gelatos are left. The leaves on all plants are getting increasingly yellowish. Not sure if this is normal or due to stress. We switched the fertilizer last week but it didn't help.

I think we have finally found out why the leaves of the plants have turned yellow. This week we noticed that the top leaves looked a bit like taco shells, which led us to believe that we were dealing with too much light. I turned down the sanlight back to 60%. The temperatures have dropped a little and the problem doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I hope they manage to recover a little.

The smell got really strong the past few days. We are still a little concerned about the color of the leaves. All the plants have shed a few leaves this week and a few leaves have turned purple. However, the plants will probably be ready to harvest in 1-2 weeks. The plants will only get water without fertilizer from now on. We are currently watering every other day.

It was very warm this week. As a result, it was also warmer in the tent than we would have liked. We haven't fertilized this week and won't do so next week either. The plants are still shedding leaves. The leaves first turn yellow and then dry out or are shed. We are already looking forward to the harvest. It will probably be ready in 1-2 weeks. The smell is currently very strong. Sometimes there was a distinct smell of grass next to the tent. Today we replaced the Phonic Trap hose between the activated charcoal filter and the exhaust air with a normal hose. This will hopefully ease the problem somewhat. Even though it's no longer illegal, we don't want our apartment to smell of grass. We definitely need a better carbon filter for the next run.

The weather this week was tough because it was hot and wet. At times we had 74% RH in the grow box, but it got better the past few days. Yesterday we harvested the remaining purple cookie kush plant after 56 days of flowering. The gelatos will get a few extra days. One of them has gotten red/purple. I think it is either a due to the ventilators or because the red one is next to the air intake. Otherwise they roughly the same conditions.

Harvested at day 56. The gelatos are getting a few extra days, so we could not dry the purple cookie kush in the tent. Therefore we are drying them in a cardboard box connected to the air intake of the grow box. I'll update this after drying.
