👍Many thanks to Dutch Passion for including me in the 2024 Grow Contest. I decided to grow Passion #1 because it is a fast growing strain, after all it is early June and flowering starts in August. Passion #1 is a strong and robust cannabis plant that is easy to grow and very resistant to adverse weather conditions. It eventually becomes a very tall, slender plant with thin leaves. The branches become quite thick, as do the buds of this strain. With enough soil and sunlight it will become a plant of epic proportions. Passion #1 has been developed for outdoor and greenhouse cultivation only. This is not a strain to be grown indoors under strong lighting. Passion #1 is a powerful cannabis hybrid with a very high yield and a relatively quick flowering time, with most plants ready in September.😊 The seeds have been watered for one day until the seed shells have cracked and the inner white of the seed could be seen and have been put into paper towel the next day. The third day the seed had a small root of about 2-3 mm. At that time I planted them into 2,5 l. pots which will last until the final plantig in big pots or directly into garden soil. Day 4 of the germination week: As time is pressing, I put the seedlings under 20 W light and on a heating mat. I hope that they will develop faster this way.

We have had very stormy, changeable weather this week, also known as "sheep cold". So I've been taking the little ladies indoors several evenings and putting them back in the tunnel in the morning. They seem to be doing well. Now they just need to grow fast.

I selected a plant and transplanted it into a 26 litre pot. pot. The two remaining plants in the foil tunnel have grown better than the transplanted plant, which is due to the higher humidity and temperature in the foil tunnel. I had considered a larger pot, but considering the time remaining, the 26 litre pot will be the best option. pot will hopefully suffice. The soil in the pot consists of 60% peat-free potting compost and 40% garden soil. The whole thing was mixed with cattle manure in pellet form and horn meal. The bottom of the pot was covered with red lava gravel. The plan for this plant is to simply let it grow as it wishes.

The two remaining ladies have grown quite a bit this week. They still have about 3-4 weeks until they start flowering. The weather was almost tropical with high humidity and temperatures of up to 28°C. It rained heavily at the weekend, but the ladies are not showing any problems with mould or similar. The lady that is completely outdoors is still in the five-finger stage, while the lady in the small foil tunnel is already showing seven fingers. It is logical that the plant grows better in the foil tunnel, but I would like to see the difference, also because the vegetative one is very short. However, the registered height is the height of the entire outdoor plant. At the moment, outdoor growth is about 1 cm per day. They are very vigorous plants that have so far shown themselves to be adapted to the Central European climate. As I worked the fertiliser into the soil at the beginning, no further fertilisation is required at this stage.

It may be July, but there's no sign of good summer weather. It's raining a lot, the temperatures have dropped to below ten degrees at night, but the ladies have still managed to grow something. It has to be said that the polytunnel offers a clear advantage. The plant in the polytunnel is about 1/3 larger than the plant in the unprotected outdoor area. However, the plant in the polytunnel would quickly topple over if it were placed outside at this time, as it would not be able to withstand the wind. I'm curious to see how it will continue. Hopefully the tropical days with mild nights will return soon. No fertilisation was necessary, as there was little watering due to all the rain. 2024.07.14 The week was very changeable with heavy rain, sun and lots of wind. Passion #1 coped well and continued to grow. To avoid having to constantly work with liquid fertiliser, I applied a layer of manure consisting of worm compost, compost, malted barley, horn meal and pelleted cattle manure. The malted barley is supposed to bring enzymes and minerals into the soil, which will also be important for later flowering. Thanks for the tip to @Northern_Ent. The top layer is approx. 3-4 cm thick. The plants are now forming long side branches. As Passion #1 grows very quickly in the polytunnel, the question arises as to what height I should top it, I have a maximum height of 220 cm available in the polytunnel. The plants look a bit damaged and need some care as I was on holiday for a couple of weeks. They have been watered every 2-3 days but have not received any further care, despite this they have grown quite a bit. The side branches are starting to strengthen so that they can support the coming flowers. I am curious to see how they will fare in competition with all the autoflowers. For now, they have been given a good dose of Vinassse liquid fertiliser and some malted barley. The Poytunnel plant has been overtaken in size by the outdoor plant, probably due to more watering. It was a mixed week but with lots of sun towards the end. All plants were fertilised with malted barley and some horn meal, they started to show slightly yellow leaves, this has now been fixed. Both plants are quite frugal when it comes to water requirements. They grow in a loose fir tree-like structure. The sizes have equalised, both are now the same size. The yellow leaves have been removed, but there are still no flowers to be seen. Passion #1 in Pot 127 cm Passion #1 in Polytunnel 127 cm

It was probably the hottest week of the year with highs of 34° C, and I had to water twice a day. I have now learnt that the pre-flowering stage is already to be counted as the flowering stage, so I am now labelling the two ladies as flowering, even though they are only just beginning to bloom. The two ladies are doing splendidly, they have been getting their water continuously, have been fed a little with wood ash, have no pests such as caterpillars, aphids or slugs and continue to grow, so I wonder whether the height in the polytunnel will be sufficient. The outdoor plant has overtaken the lady in the polytunnel in size, probably due to the rain this week. Passion #1 in pot 1 141 cm Passion #1 in polytunnel 137 cm

The days are getting noticeably shorter and the nights colder. There are still sunny, hot days underneath, with rain from time to time. In addition, there was a very gusty wind on two days. However, Passion #1 has coped very well and has continued to grow. The lady on the terrace has flowered a little further than the lady in the polytunnel and has also grown more vigorously. Both plants have been defoliated a little, which makes them look like large autoflowers. There are no pests or diseases on the plants, just a little fly damage on the lady in the foil tunnel as it is not washed by the rain. Passion #1 in pot 150 cm Passion #1 in polytunnel 143 cm

Last week was very warm and sunny with no rain. Therefore, it had to be watered well and watered twice a day. Both plants continue to grow in height although they are flowering, the side branches are getting stronger, no odour so far. Perhaps I should have used a larger pot after all, I had expected a maximum height of 150 cm, but if they continue to grow in flower like this, the foil tunnel will also be too small. They are vigorous, fast-growing plants. It will be exciting to see how they compare with all the other autoflowering plants. If September remains dry and sunny, I have a good chance of a good harvest. Passion #1 in pot 156 cm Passion #1 in polytunnel 146 cm

Is it necessary to defoliate plants growing outdoors in pots or in the garden soil? What I read about this is very contradictory.

There is no straight answer. It depends on the plant and your environment. Like asking if anti freeze is important in a car. If you are somewhere it gets below freezing, probably yes. If not, probably no. It all depends on the humidity and airflow. Plants are only at the pinnacle of evolution for the environment they evolved in. If you remove them from that climate and grow them elswhere, they may do terribly as they are not suited for that climate or environment. Like a polar bear trying to survive in the Sahara, pinnacle predator in the cold, but dead fast in the heat. We are now growing mostly polyhybrids bred for stable indoor climates and sometimes they need some help outside. You need to work out what is best for your environment.

Both plants are doing well, they are in bloom, the lady in the foil tunnel blooms a little more profusely, but is a little smaller. The lady in the foil tunnel has grown a little, while the other has remained at her level. Due to its height, I have placed Passion #1 in the middle of the foil tunnel, as it is higher there. The coming days will show which one will fare better, I hope both plants will do well, as they need a few more weeks. Passion #1 in Pot 156 cm Passion #1 in Polytunnel 149 cm

This week we had three rainy days at the beginning, then it got dry and warmer again. Due to the cooler temperatures, we didn't have to water much. At the moment, Passion #1 in the foil tunnel has an advantage because it is protected from bad weather and the foil house is slightly warmer than the outside temperature. This is reflected in the better development of the flowers. Mold: none Diseases: none Slugs: none Of course, there are always a few attempts by pests to hijack the plants, but so far without success.
