The two remaining ladies have grown quite a bit this week. They still have about 3-4 weeks until they start flowering. The weather was almost tropical with high humidity and temperatures of up to 28°C. It rained heavily at the weekend, but the ladies are not showing any problems with mould or similar. The lady that is completely outdoors is still in the five-finger stage, while the lady in the small foil tunnel is already showing seven fingers. It is logical that the plant grows better in the foil tunnel, but I would like to see the difference, also because the vegetative one is very short. However, the registered height is the height of the entire outdoor plant. At the moment, outdoor growth is about 1 cm per day. They are very vigorous plants that have so far shown themselves to be adapted to the Central European climate. As I worked the fertiliser into the soil at the beginning, no further fertilisation is required at this stage.

Is it necessary to defoliate plants growing outdoors in pots or in the garden soil? What I read about this is very contradictory.

There is no straight answer. It depends on the plant and your environment. Like asking if anti freeze is important in a car. If you are somewhere it gets below freezing, probably yes. If not, probably no. It all depends on the humidity and airflow. Plants are only at the pinnacle of evolution for the environment they evolved in. If you remove them from that climate and grow them elswhere, they may do terribly as they are not suited for that climate or environment. Like a polar bear trying to survive in the Sahara, pinnacle predator in the cold, but dead fast in the heat. We are now growing mostly polyhybrids bred for stable indoor climates and sometimes they need some help outside. You need to work out what is best for your environment.

As the temperatures drop, you’ve got the perfect setup to help your plants transition quickly into the flowering phase after those high temps. Fingers crossed that everything plays out well! 🌡️🌸
