This was my first grow. I germinated 4 random seeds given to me to try my hand at growing. I initially didn't invest any real money into a grow setup, as I wasn't confident I had a green thumb.
My new grow light arrived! They're now under the metal halide 1000w light at a distance of 22 inches. I'm really surprised at how healthy they all seem considering this was random bagseed I tried to germinate on a whim.

I discover 2 of the 4 are males, and immediately remove them from the grow room AKA my bedroom closet. I keep them in the living room for a couple of days while googling if they can be of any use. And that's when I discover that my cat loves weed as much as I do!
The remaining 2 look very different. I switched the light from 18/6 metal halide to 12/12 high pressure sodium (1000w). I've been using the Technaflora's Recipe for Success Starter Kit as directed.
The remaining 2 are doing nicely, although they are obviously different strains. Look at those frosty leaves! This is very exciting - I'm really happy and pleasantly surprised at how well they're doing 😃
For reasons I can't explain, one of the two remaining got sick and died quite suddenly. Here's the only one left. She looks like the pics I've been seeing online!! It doesn't have much of an odor though, I'm not really sure why. Given the questionable genetics and my lack of experience growing anything, I'm pleased with the results so far: lots of glistening trichomes!
The last feeding was MagiCal & Sugar Daddy. I then flushed with plain, ice cold water - will harvest next week for sure. Still no strong odor I have no reference here - are their strains that are supposed to have a very low odor? I question for the philosophers indeed 😟
This was a test - when I was trying to germinate the 4 seeds I had been given, I had no idea whether or not I would be able to grow. Turns outs, thanks to the Internet, I learned a lot and decided that I would definitely try this again.
My biggest lesson was in the drying stage - I was using guidelines like "Let them hang for a couple of days until they feel spongy". In less than 24 hours, my newly harvest buds went from lovely to crumbling at the touch. I rehydrated with a Boveda, but it didn't really turn out to be a great smoke.
I tried to complete the outcome numbers to the best of my ability but I have no idea how to determine total light power used, as I initially used CFLs.
I'm now in the midst of my second grow, this time from clones...00
My apartment's humidity is 40% - harvested buds completely dried out in under 24 hours. Should I place my next harvest directly into jars to avoid the mistake I made in my first grow? I would appreciate any suggestions (I cannot control the ambient humidity). Thanks!
Hi @EhlersChick. Don't do that! You will ruin your final product and risk to encounter mold issues. This is strange since you're close to the ideal drying RH (~50%), can't this be related to your temperature? You should consider building a drying box, I've made one out of cardboard and it's working fine. Basically, a cardboard container with a passive intake hole and a tiny computer fan (mine is 4x4cm) to extract the air and generate a smooth airflow in your box. Put the box in your coolest room, if RH is too low you can put a mister/humidifier in the same room. Finally, you may consider giving your plants a last watering right before the cut (24-48h before the cut), this should increase the drying time because of more water in the buds.
