This was a seed that I had bought from a friend six years prior to germination. I had it stored in the crisper of the fridge, in a zip lock bag, for six years before I popped it in the paper towel. Friend I got it from was a trusted source and he said it was Big Bud Feminized, but never got any idea of the breeder. I considered this my practice run before starting to buy seeds, as my state had recently legalized home cultivation.
Just kinda let her grow until her nodes started bursting with branch growth. Once she started putting out branches, I went ahead and started doing some selective defoliation to allow light get to those little branches to expedite their growth.
Just As the previous week, it was just letting her grow and selective defoliation. Decided to pinch her apical meristem and topped her. She was growing with nice tight noding already and was looking very promising. I knew at this point she was going to be a really bushy thick plant. I prepped some paper clips around her pot in anticipation for LST.
Fed her on Feb 20th, gave her both 4-4-4 and 2-8-4 in equal portions. Looking back I used too much 2-8-4 that early in the grow. She was showing slight signs of excess phosphorus. Started LST and continued selective defoliatiuon.
Started noticing some damaged leaves this week, went and checked for any pests and couldn't find any eggs or insects. Didn't think it was fungal or bacterial infection. But maybe gentetic? I've seen some plants that just have jacked up leaves sometimes, without any real rhyme or reason. Either way, purchased some neem oil and started some pest management to be on the safe side. I continued LST, slowly turning her ito the bush that I wanted.
Not much to say about this week other than...wow. She is growing fantastic and gorgeous. If you can see in the pictures she's still in a Vivosun tent and a 5 gallon fabric pot rolled down. I was concerned about her getting too tall with the tent only being a 2x2x4. The rolled down fabric pot ends up becoming an issue further down the road, but I'll explain when we get to that week.

So this was the week I figured out that the roots had grown into a solid matted block. She was showing signs of under watering, over watering, nute deficiencies, nute excesses, etc... she was in rough shape, so I decided to repot her into a full 10 gallon pot. I know, I know, entirely overkill. I've seen giant plants in just 7 gallon pots. I'm well aware that 10 gallon pots are overkill for a 2x2. BUT, I do it anyways...my thought is that I want to give the plant AMPLE space to set up a network with the mycelium and be able to efficiently use the grow medium and grow in an almost natural way with very little root restriction or air trimming. I know of only one youtuber that does the same method, so I would love to hear peoples thoughts on that....waste of space, or legitimate technique?
Last week of veg. Did some super cropping to try and keep the canopy even. At this point she was just about half the TOTAL height i wanted her to be at the end of flower, with tons of branches. So I went ahead at the end of this week and flipped her to 12/12.
Flowers started, looking fantastic. I was very apprehensive on what I would get for a yield. I was hoping for 1 gram/watt... but with it being my first tent grow, I wasn't getting my hopes up...
Gave her a top dressing this week. She was praying to the almighty LED's for sure. Definitely healthy and happy. Buds were coming in nice, starting to show some frost.
This was the week that her buds really started to swell. Her smell was skunky as can be with a slight citrus smell. She was really healthy and sucking up water like crazy.
Gave her a final feeding on this week, after this its just wait for her to turn colors and watch her trichomes. Still fattening up the buds, and looking beautiful.
Another week passes as her buds continue to grow. At this point they were rock hard and dense. By the end of the week her hairs were starting to turn orangish-brown.
Ah, her colors were starting to change...and her smell... so loud you could tell I opened the tent from across the house. At this point her smell had shifted to a pungent fruity-skunky-stank. Emphasis on stank. It was almost a sewage smell, that.... had I not known any better I would have thought something was wrong with her. That smell evolved into a sickening sweet pineapple smell later after curing. But at this point, she smelled amazing... I know sewage? Amazing? You would have had to smell her to understand. It was a good smell, especially mixed with the citrus. The way I described it to my friends was its "the smell you would smell if you got sprayed by a skunk and passed out in a citrus field then soiled yourself." I know...it sounds bad...but it really wasn't.
For a random seed that claimed to be Big Bud, her flowers looked amazing at harvest. I wouldn't say she had "big" buds, but her terps were loud and delicious and she was a trooper and powered through any mistakes I made. This all being a seed that sat in my fridge for at least six years. If only I knew who the breeder was, that way I could get more seeds. I have two more, and I'm hoping the phenos are somewhat similar. At the time of writing this she has been curing for 100 days and...omg. Straight pineapple/grapefruit smell, with a subtle skunkiness. The smoothest smoke I have EVER smoked, but that's to be expected on such a long cure. Ended up with a total of 78 dry grams after harvest. Dry was cut short for a vacation, and had to burp the jars constantly during my vacation. (Yes, I was that guy that brought two full jars of weed with him on vacation). High is very "Indica" leaning that is very reminiscent of OG Kush, very... debilitating. Turns your internal monologue into the old busy signal on phones. Definitely not a strain I would smoke if I needed to get anything done. I think I cut her too soon, but still very happy with the results.
Learned a lot of lessons on this grow that was applied to the Fastbuds Strawberry Gorilla Auto that I have posted on here. I think I did pretty well for my first "try hard" grow. Its my starting point and I'm happy with it.
