I am doing an experiment to see how well the autoflowers handle TLO soil by the Rev. For this experiment I should technically be using clones. However this is more about seeing how they handle the soil. Whether it supplies enough nutrients or too much etc...
I am using 1 soil which is 1:2 TLO:Promix, The second is 1:1 and the third is all TLO soil.
I started them all in 1 cup water for 24 hrs. Then put in paper towels for 3-4 days until they sprouted. Then I put in 1:2 mix for about 10 days where I then transplanted to 3gal bags.
Ill put pics up every 7 days
Those weights in the composition of TLO soil pic are not what I used of each one. It's just the amount in each bag I purchased as I wanted to know what cost per mix is.
Anyone know of any threads or diaries having done something similar?
Week two of the experiment to see what concentration of TLO an Autoflower strain can handle.
I know each strain might be different but I should be able to see if it is detrimental or if there is a deficiency.
This will be interesting to see how they react
I could not see any difference in color between the three and they all look great!
Should start to sere some differences soon if their are going to be......
Still no difference between the three... close up pictures coming next week
So far so good and Its certainly a good sign that I don't see any burn on the 100% plant
So far it looks like they are all growing great and have no issues. I thought the 100% TLO was dark and leaves were too skinny but now t is growing fine. It does look like the more TLO soil the darker the leaves are. Would make sense as it should have more nitrogen. I don't see any burn which means it is a liveable amount.
Any thoughts concerns? am I missing something?
I am starting to see a big difference between the three soil types. I doubt this is due to genetic variation but their is always that chance.
The 1:2 mixture, which I am using with other plants right now, looks like it is best for autoflowers at the moment. The leaves have a nice green colour and not super dark like the other two. Growth looks great as well so far.
1:1 has a nice colour, leaves look like a good size compared to 100%TLO. Soil drains a little slower than 1:2 but better than 100%.
100% Plant is very dark green and leaves look skinnier than the other two. much smaller than other two as well. soil stays moist much longer than other two as well.
So far it looks like 1:2 soil is working best for this strain of autoplants. as well as the other strains I am growing which you can see in my other current journal. I have only been giving water and will continue to do so for this experiment. unless I see a noticeable deficiency of some sort.
They are in full out flower mode and started to smell. All are ok in their respective soils and I am looking forward to seeing how they progress.
I think the 1:0 soil stunted the growth a bit as it is still super dark green compared to all the others in the garden. However flower production looks nice and frosty and more advanced than 1:2. However I am sure that is just a gentic thing.
The 1:0 soil is much thicker and I have to water much less than the others. I am sure it is not drinking as much eeither due to its size. I have grown in this soil before with photperiod plants so I dont think it is inhibiting root growth due to its compactness.
The 1:1 soil is a mix of the other two so a little less watering and uptake but still an nicer size and nice and frosty flower.
Starting to get concerned about temp though as it is going up to 28.5 now that I switched to HPS. I know this is still "acceptable" but since at night it goes to 17.5 that is a big swing.....
Gonna see if i can come up with something to address this.
Anyone ever have this much of a temp difference like that? I am concerned it is going to have a negative effect....
Plants are looking great and I think you can certainly see the effect the soil had on them. Perhaps not so much with 1:2 ans 1:1 but certainly the 100% TLO soil was not conducive in the growth of the plant overall. Having said that though it is still producing flower and does not look like it has any deficiencies.
I suspect the compact nature of the soil did not promote the root growth needed in the veg stage.
I have seen enough with this grow and my other to see that using the 1:2 ratio of TLO:Promix has given great results and has enough nutrients to support Autoflowers. I also gave a couple of teas along the way and have not seen any type if burn.
These are 100% organic grows where I just give water and a couple feedings with cal/mag when I saw a bit of deficiency. Teas are also 100% organic and Ill post exactly what the soil and teas have as well.
Any thoughts/comments are always appreciated!
Looks like the two smallest are almost ready to harvest. Going to give them 8-10 more days and check the trichomes.
The tallest looks like it will be 2-3 more weeks but ill make sure to check all the trichomes next week as well.
regardless of the soil composition though the flowers look and smell great. Still very frosty and the medium one has a great looking bud on it.
looking forward to trying her out and growing Auto Think Big next time!
For last few weeks I had issues with Temp getting to 30 and down to 17. Not good for the plants and it looks like it turned two of the Think Different plants into Hermie's. You can see "bananas" in the pics but if someone think they are something else let me know.
Harevested 1 and 2 since I don't want them to ruin my other girls by knocking them up!
3 will keep going under a 750W as I want to keep the temp down
This is the strain I chose for my experiment and I think it went really well. I know I should have a higher N value but for now it showed me what I wanted.
Apart from that the taste is really nice, fresh and smooth. Buds are very frosty and a lime green. Good denseness and wasn't too bad to trim. Look exactly like the pic on their website which is always great to see.
Will definitely grow again as it helps with Anxiety and to relax.
The first two were harvested on week 10 as they turn hermaphrodite as the temp swing was too much when I switched to 1000W. I lowered to 750W when I noticed the effect it could. that kept temp between 17-26 which they really liked.
These are the last pics of 3 before hharvest. going to post all pics after it is done drying and curing.
Here are all the pics of the Large Bud from each plant. Kinda disappointed with weight but the quality is amazing. This true organic method certainly gives it a nice smooth smoke with great flavors. Very unique in profile and gives a great uplifting feeling.
Easy to grow and will grow again with only 1:2 TLO:Pro Mix soil. This produced the largest plant but it also looked the healthiest and with no nutrient issues. I think the other two had too much nitrogen as the leaves were very dark green early on and for most of cycle.
Glad I did this and it proved to me, albeit with a small sample size that at this combination of TLO to promix they will be very healthy and produce very high quality. Although I gotta figure out how to get higher yields!
@B4niTa, ya I think it is smaller because it is autoflower and I think yours is photoperiod. unless I am wrong.
Yours looks great. What type of LED do you use? I have been thinking of switching for next grow.....
@Dre11, Ooo ok 👌 maybe they is small different between the light becouse I use led and im grow ThinkDifferent second time and you can se a different’s check my diaries now i have also TD at week 3...
The flowering nodes on your plants look to be absolutely amazing. You've done such an amazing job with this grow so far and I'm so excited to see how these plants finish up as well as to hear how they smoke. Best wishes my friend :D
@SensiSmellYahLater,
Thanks Sensi! I really appreciate your kind words.
Will certainly post about the finished experience when they're all done and cured.
Check out my other grow when you have a second and let me know what you think.
Cheers
