Well, starting this little adventure! Seed germinated in a couple days but didn’t fall off the seedling on its own - the Day 1 photo was the morning after I removed the shell and the leaves opened up. A week later and I’m pleased with the growth thus far. We’ll see what next week brings!

Leaves started drooping around Day 11, looks like overwatering from my research. I thought the initial container would breath a little more than it did (use it to start tomatoes with no issues in the past). Transferred to a larger pot with better drainage and added additional perlite into my soil. Soil was already fairly moist prior to transplant, so likely won’t start helping with the overwater issue for a few days until it dries out. Not ideal, but new leaves keep coming so I’m sure it’ll sort itself out.

It’s now been a week since I moved the plant into this pot, which has better drainage and better draining soil than the previous pot. It was still putting out new growth but the existing leaves continued to droop, despite the soil feeling very dry down 2 inches or so below the surface. Also started to notice some yellowing on the lower leaves. Decided to check the pH of the soil and my water, which were both between 7.5 and 7.75 which I understand to be higher than ideal. So, I watered with 7pH water last night to see if that starts to improve things. This morning the upper leaves did seem to be holding themselves straighter/higher, but I’ll continue to watch over the week for additional improvements. Overall growth is definitely not as large as other plants I see on here for Day 21, but I’m pretty pleased with it so far considering it’s under a low powered LED panel (only 45 watts). A weak smell has started, which is definitely exciting. Hints of grapefruit/citrus; can’t wait! Let’s see what this next week brings!

PH seems to remain a little high at around 7.5 but I’ve been watering with rainwater, which the plant seems to be enjoying rather than my municipal tap water. Several sets of new leaves continuously forming at the main tip and now starting at the side shoots. The smell remains subtle as it has not started pre-flower yet, but I will be moving it into a grow box to start containing the smell.

Wasn’t the best week - got excited when I saw the first few white hairs emerge and got a little heavy handed with the watering. Leaves are drooping heavily and growth has definitely slowed down, although it has not stopped. First set of leaves were turning yellow and drying; I removed them. I drilled a bunch of additional holes in the pot to help get the water out, but there hasn’t been any significant improvement in the past few days. Not sure if there is anything else I can do other than wait it out. Also the plant was moved into a simple grow cabinet this week to try and contain the smell that has started (carbon filter will be installed later this week probably) and to try and capture all the light possible from my simple light. This has served to increase the temperatures from around 18c to around 23c.

Seem to be having overwatering issues - moving forward I’ll definitely wait a little longer before adding more water, but anything that I can do at this point to try and improve things? Or is it just a wait it out scenario? Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi there Turk ! so yeah a few things happened first the over watering, which is an easy thing to do with such a small pot ! second , for whatever reason it seems the overwatering flushed out the nutrients in the soil, which has led you to a pretty much text book Nitrogen deficiency. Finally, i'm a bit worried about your pot size, it's pretty small for a cannabis plant, this might lead to the plant being root bound. It's a bit late to repot an auto, but you should repot anyway and pray it fixes most of these problems. hopefully you'll give the plant a new home just in time for the flower stretch. Time is of the essence, and i'm sorry i can't give you better news, but that's the truth. To fix your cal mag problem (if the bigger pot doesnt fix it), make a calmag solution 6ml/L and spray until dripping wet daily for a week, that should fix it. Hope this helps my friend ! 🚀

This week was much better thanks to advice I received from a few people on this website - thanks! Transplanted to a larger, fabric pot to help improve drainage and keep the roots in a happier place. Mixed in a bunch of compost and perlite with the potting soil to provide nutrients and better drainage when I transplanted to the larger pot. Also picked up a blooming fertilizer and fed at approx half strength. Plant also was fed some compost tea halfway through the week when the soil was starting to dry out. All water was corrected down to 6.5 pH. There’s a small fan in the cabinet now - but haven’t got my filter sorted out yet. Was hoping to find a simple DIY solution, but definitely have read mixed things about DIY carbon filters on various forums. Anyone made one and had good results?!?

Growth was good this week - she put on about 3”, which seems pretty substantial when she was only 8” tall last week. The buds continue to grow up the main stem, so hopefully in a couple weeks she’ll be just one cola(?!) Definitely not setting any records, but a fun first attempt with a budget setup. Smell is definitely still manageable.

I had to go out of town last week and she unfortunately wasn’t that pleased with that decision - I had someone water every few days but the leaves all started turning yellow and I’ve since removed most of the fan leaves. I know some yellowing and leaf loss is normal during late flower, but this seems more wide-spread than normal? Perhaps? Definitely not sure. Anyways, it’s not ideal but she’s nearing the end so I’ll just try not to mess it up any further until the end!

Wondering if the amount/type of yellowing leaves is normal at this stage? Seems like maybe a nutrient defeciency (maybe burn? I dunno!) but given the stage of flowering not sure what should/can be done at this point. Have been providing ~1/2 dose bloom nutes (9-16-16). Thanks!

Yellowing is normal as you are providing almost twice more PK than N and N is responsible for the green colour , she will not need that much N during next week so she will get more yellow. It could be a nutrient burnt but I bet on the lamp beeing 5 cm from the plant is why your tips are burning. Just continue like you are doing , the lack of N is not an issue you'r gonna solve in late flowering as it is the moment she need more PK than N and the PK will make her get fatter and focuse on the bud production 😊

Chugging along. Pistils have started to turn red. Getting closer now! Being new to this - I’ve gotta read up on flushing and when to harvest. I’ve got a magnifier to try and check the trichomes, but it doesn’t seem to have good enough optics to see if they are clear or cloudy. We’ll see how the next week goes!

Still curing for a few more weeks but had to sample a few small pop corns and was pleased with the indica effects. Excited to see how she is after a few more weeks curing. I’m pleased with the 19g off my first plant with a 50w light.

Good luck with the sweet tooth! I’m following because my Sweet Tooth is a few weeks ahead of yours, but already looking very similar. Mine currently smells like feet(!) and although it hasn’t been in flower very long,, it’s already getting gorgeous trichomes on some leaves. Wishing you lots of success 😺

She looks frosty! I'd say now is a good time to give her straight up water, no need to PH it either. Make sure you get a good 15-20% runoff to get a proper flush. I'd aim for 2-3 watering and max 7-10 days.

Good to see this girl recover from her transplant. I’m growing this strain as well right now, it’s turned out to just be one fat bud with no branches, a tiny plant haha. I’m excited for you to find out how nice this strain smells later on during its flower, I can’t believe the stickiness! I’m very much a noob grower, but regarding drainage... Very pleased you’ve got a fabric pot. Ensure it’s slightly raised off the ground, even a small airflow underneath will help hugely. This helps the true wet dry cycle that cannabis thrives in. I wish I did this from the beginning, the plants didn’t appreciate it at all. I’ve also found that Sweet Tooth can handle more nutrients than other strains, not much more mind you! But certainly more than the Pineapple Express I’m growing with it. Good luck and I hope I helped a little.

Hey so I was reading about ways to lower soil ph and the most common one was some variety of a sulfate, but you can also add organic materials like compost, i know pine needles are acidic, but those will take time to decompose and make it active in the soil. Perhaps a ph lowering bottle? I know in the us theyve even started carrying a ph up/down at walmart.
Experimentgreen
Experimentgreencommented6 years ago
@Turkler,seriously!? Lol what a score. Can you take as much water as you want?
Turkler
Turklercommented6 years ago
@Experimentgreen, I happened to find a bottle of pH down the other day, but also found out that the water from my work is between 6-6.5 and from an RO system. So I think I’m going to be using that from here on out, but I added some more compost to the soil today, so I’m hoping that helps as well! Thanks for the tip!

She’s looking absolutely gorgeous now! Pretty bulky too, I think the yield will be very nice for a first grow. What’s the plan for grow #2?
Turkler
Turklercommented6 years ago
@WillyWonka, thanks candy man! I’m not sure what’s up for grow #2 yet, but was thinking I’d have another go at this Sweet Tooth Auto in my little grow cabinet since I’ve got a few more seeds, then come spring start a sativa outdoors/ in a little green house I built last fall in preparation for Canada’s legalization 🤓

Are you finding your pots take many days to dry out being in plastic pots rather than fabric ones? How's your air flow around them? Any fans or anything yet?
Turkler
Turklercommented6 years ago
@Experimentgreen, I was finding that it was taking awhile to dry out between waterings - it was in a terra cotta pot tho, not plastic. I switched to a fabric pot last week and it does seem to help to dry things out quicker. I have a little fan in the cabinet to help move some air around - feeling much better about the plant this week, over last week! Thanks for the input!

To answer your question: It's really hard to over water small pots, you probably watered too often. Also temperatures below 23°C slows down growth to a crawl, which also explains why it grew so slow. Finally, nitrogen deficiency looks like the whole leave is yellowing. Your leaves in the picture, has uneven yellowing, starting from the tip, with the base still green asking with rust spots, which is potassium (K) deficiency; not that strange since it has began flowering. Ir needs bloom nutes, or a trasplant to a bigger pot.
Turkler
Turklercommented6 years ago
@@Athos, thanks for the insight! I moved to a bigger pot and mixed in more compost for additional nutrients. I also picked up a blooming fertilizer, so hopefully that helps out as well!
