Round 2

HerrTom The three cuttings were transplanted after a week in the growing pots. Next week, they will be transplanted into a large tub on the rooftop terrace. During the first grow, the plants initially had way too little space. This was especially tough on the Runtz, which is in this grow twice. In the large tub, the plants won't be able to move around with the sun like they did in the first grow, which means less stress. However, the space on the terrace needs to be sunny enough. For this grow, I'm also using nutrients, or rather two different nutrients: No. 1 for the growth phase and No. 2 for the flowering phase. More space, (hopefully) plenty of sun, no movement stress, and nutrients... this has to work! :-)

HerrTom As planned, I transplanted the three plants into a large container outside in week 3. I hope there's enough space for three plants and that the weather stays this nice. Let's see if the three little ones make it until fall/winter.

HerrTom Not much is happening, but the plants seem to be doing well. So far, I can't really see any significant difference from the first round without nutrients.

HerrTom VACATION: I was on vacation for a week. Watering was sporadic and it was incredibly hot. The spot on the rooftop terrace seems too sunny for the little plants. One Runtz didn't make it. Just burned away :-(

HerrTom In the week after the vacation, the two surviving little plants are recovering. I'm watering regularly again and have also installed a sunshade that shields them from the worst heat during the midday hours. Even though the leaves haven't fully regained their strength yet, you can see that things are looking up. The quality of the harvest will surely be poor due to the hellish week, but let's see what comes of it.

HerrTom The remaining Runtz might still yield something, but I have little hope for the Sunshine Sherbet. The vacation week with extreme heat seems to have been just too much for the ladies. Both plants still look pretty battered and are growing very slowly, even though they are actually being well taken care of and are in a sunny spot. We'll see if I prefer to start the next grow indoors. We'll see...

HerrTom I'm not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but the Runtz is doing well. It's a shame that the vacation week was so extremely hot and the plants suffered so much. With just a little attention, I'm sure the Runtz grow would have turned out really good. The Sunshine Sherbet is struggling hard. The leaves are growing somewhat, but the "stem" just won't get any stronger. It's a little runt, but there are already signs of flower hairs. This isn't going to work :-(

HerrTom We were away for the weekend and the plants were watered with drip irrigation. Got it for !!!99 cents!!! at Aldi :-) Works perfectly and the plants are doing well. Well, Sunshine Sherbet is making a mess of it, but that's not going to work anymore. The Runtz is doing quite well, as I said, and looks healthy. Let's see what comes of it. I believe that the "summer" won't be enough for a harvest anymore.

HerrTom This weekend was really warm again, there was a lot of sunshine, which did the plants a lot of good. However, the nights are already quite cool. I'm curious if both plants will make it to harvest. Especially since the weather is supposed to get worse overall. Well, maybe there will still be a golden October for the final stretch :-) Otherwise, the situation remains the same: Runtz is doing well, Sherbet is still a little dwarf :-) The Runtz is developing quite a few buds that look pretty promising.

HerrTom It's cold at night. A few leaves have even taken damage and have gotten brown frost spots. I've removed the largest ones. I haven't watered in a while either because it rained constantly last week and it was cool during the day. However, the weather has improved as the week changed, and I hope that next week brings enough sunshine so we can purposefully move towards the harvest.

HerrTom It's progressing slowly. The sun is just too weak, the nights are too cold, the weather is too wet, and it gets dark too early. Still, the two are doing well. I will harvest Sherbet next week. Nothing is getting bigger, the hairs are brown, and the trichomes are already looking cloudy. The Runtz just needs more time. The hairs are still light, and the trichomes aren't fully developed yet. But it will definitely be tasty. Not much, but tasty :-) I haven't fertilized much lately because it has rained so much, and I haven't watered at all. Last week was somewhat okay, but before that, the weather was really bad.

HerrTom I think it's time, at least for the Sunshine Sherbet. I'm going to harvest the plant this week. The buds are ripe, and the plant hasn't grown any more for a while now. The Runtz will get an extra week before it is also harvested. The little light at this time of year and the cold temperatures just don't allow for any more progress. Let's see how the result turns out.

HerrTom So, the little one has been harvested. The buds are really very small and there's a lot of trim. However, the plant is absolutely full of resin and very sticky, which should actually be a good sign. I trimmed wet because it's hardly worth the effort to hang up the little plant, dry it, and then trim it. I'm really looking forward to the actual end result, not so much the quantity but the taste.

HerrTom Let's see... I didn't weigh it wet. Unfortunately, the buds on this plant - just like with the Sherbet I harvested 2 days earlier - are quite small, really very small. The hell week and the season probably didn't allow for more. But that's okay, as I'm not focused on maximizing yield. While trimming, I had to realize that the flowers are actually even smaller than they appeared at first glance. On the positive side, the small buds were very sticky, which I consider a quality feature. In any case, the plant produced another nice little jar full of weed that I need to try soon.
