Day of germination: Picking Kali China from my seeds and choosing Violeta from a cutting that hopefully survives. No using paper towels, straight to soil with cling film on top.
Three days later KCs are out, First pic on day 2 of veg. Day 5 since sprout.
Spraying plain water 3x a day to keep humidity up.
10w fan to give the plants air movement and to strengthen the stems.
End of week one(pic 2 and 3): Pretty happy with the seedling stage so far.
Week 2:
Put up some lighter fans 12mm for PCs to get a bit of wind going 24/7 without having too much noise.
LED is up to 40%, were at 300ppfd now since the first true 3 finger leaves.
Also since then I give them Bio Grow 1ml per l dose per liter and also 1ml Calmag since I use RO water.
They have been growing pretty fast this second week, you can almost watch them grow.
Slightly higher temps and RLF but thats simply due to the weather.
In the back are the violeta cuttings, not sure they are going to make it 😩😟
Also pictures of my seed making project on the window sills.
I amgoing to use a critical mass male by mr nice as the pollen donor and I am going to pollinate a Violeta with it. Hoping to get lots of seeds from this.
The offspring might have quite some varation, lets see.
Sunday 18.08:
The 4 Kali China just got some new fabric pots about 9l with recycled Biobizz allmix with extra perlite and horn shavings added a couple weeks ago
End of week 3, D 23 of Veg
Topping the 4 Kali Chinas depending on size. The tallest gets topped first, then the next. The ofthers are allowed to grow another node before topping to level them out.
The smallest plant may not be topped at all but might get some LST instead.
To prevent gnats I use BTI (bacillus thurengensis var israelensis) in the water to kill larvae in the soil. Since this is receycled earth whith organic inputs that fungus gnats like, I am doing this from day 1.
Another countermeasure is diatomaceous earth+Perlite+soil to create a covering layer that the gnats cannot get out of easily. Thats why the pots have so much perlite on top.
I saw some holes in the leaves so I sprayed 5% neem/water on the plants to avoid pests early on. I will not use this outside of veg phase.
Light is at 60% now and about 500 to 600 PPFD light intensity.
End of week 4: All good, left them alone for abit after doing the toppings and LST. A little bit more watering due to hotter days.
used my own cannabis leaf tea that I brew cold in a bigger jar. Smells worse than manure but makes the leaves greener and gives nutrients back that I took defoliating
Some defoliation on the bottom, where I cut new shoots that have no real chance of growing to the top.
The seed making project just needs some time to get ripe seeds, just waiting there.
Pest managament:
Stopped neem oil, turns out there is not much going on with insects. 1 or 2 gnats thats it.
I still have the BTI in the water but not that many fungus gnats. I will dial it back and see if less BTI works for this.
Beginning of week 4, guess who got a microscope....
4 Kali Chinas in the tent: Grew quite a bit and looked very dark green so no feeding this week except for some calmag due to reverse osmosis water
Pottet up from 9l fabric pots to 18l buckets this will reduce nutrient problems and stress later on and I have to water less often.
Used lots of LST to even out the canopy but the plants have a bit of a range. I did not kick out the smallest because it has interesting terps on the stem rub.
Seed making project, not many news on that front. The Violeta needs time to ripen the seeds, 2 more weeks or so until they are ripe. The Northern lights by sensi has enough flower/hair to be seeded now.
-Sunday September 8 switch to 12 12
-Defolition on the bottoms at F1, re-shave at F6.
-Hung up a charcoal filter and exausting via a window -RLF down @50%
-Light is up to 80% to reduce stretch and we are at around 1000 PPFD at canopy level now.
60x60cm tent used for my cuttings (I hope they survive, my cuttings have a high mortality) + a male in there that I don't want to flower while I have the Kalis flowering.
The lights are just 4x e27 at around 30W total. The idea is to keep plants in veg there. Needs a fan to stay cool but fairly cheap solution.
19.09.
Lots of stretch, we are currently at F10, hope it stops soon.
Had to hang the lamp higher in the last days.
22.08 F14 heavy59 defoliation and supercropping, you can see that well in the first 2 pics.
I hope this helps with RLF, stretch and everything. I was going to wait to week 3 for the 2nd defol but it got out of hand.
Blumats installed sometime this week with 50l reservoir and a tiny dose of Canna Terra Vega in it. Top feeding per hand watering happens every 10 days or so with the Biobizz lineup.
I always give less than the feeding chart says more like 50% or so.
Stretch and more stretch, some more defoliation. Installed blumat from last week shown here.
Super topping the longest branches because I will run out of space:
In the pictures you can see these knots, this is where I bend the stems with super cropping so that the other shoots can catch up.
The stems treated this way will usually come back even stronger but in line with the other tops. Good way to keep a canopy.
This type of training does not seem stressful and the Kali Chinas bounce back quickly.
If you like training and bending and topping and watching the plants bounce back this is your strain.
A lot of stretch in this plant: I dont know what it is but it starts very indica looking and with flipping to 12/12 some sativa qualities are clearly showing even if until then looked like and Afghani type.
I'll see how it goes but the 180cm tent will be at its limit for sure
Some trichome pics, the kali China indoors have still long to go. The rest with the mikly trichomes is from the window will pants (NL, Violeta).
About 4 weeks since the flip, flowers are coming along nicely.
The terps went from rosemary to orange kind of flavor.
RLF is controlled for by now with around 50% despite the rainy fall.
Small tent has whatever I want to keep around some more.
kali cuttings, seeds from the cross of Violeta and critical mass.
In the back right is some coco coir test run. Front right bonsai mom kali and bonsai dad critical
02.11.2024
Some amber trichomes on some plants, not on others so I will give it another week or so
03.11.2024
Fall colors coming in, trying to keep the temp as low as possible. Luckily winter temps are happening now so I am aiming for 20c the last one or two weeks.
8.11. chopped exactly at day60, some plants are furtehr along than others, some have amber some milky but with one drying tent you have to make a choice.
Smallest plant from the beginning looks surprisingly good with leaf to flower ratio, the rest will be more trim jail.
Updates on the numbers soon.
20.11. Curing in jars after 12 days in 16c and 60rlf after dry trim. Burping once a day
