Day 1: I’m using a cloth towel instead of a paper towel, but I also have it in a warm grow tent with a humidifier running nonstop.
Day 2: The seed popped, and the taproot appeared by the end of of the day
Day 3: The seed was planted in soil (5gal: 40% Country Roots Living Soil, 25% coco coir, 25% perlite, and 10% yard compost. The soil mixture was fed with 1 cup Down to Earth Bio-live. Another tiny pinch of the Bio-live was mixed into the hole where the seed was planted.
The light is set at 36%, 18 hours, and sitting about 18 inches above the soil. A humidifier is running in conjunction with the exhaust fan to keep the relative humidity at around 80 - 83% and the VPD at 1.5 - 1.7 kPa.
Day 7: finally a sprout! There is a little damage to one of the cotyledons where soil was stuck to it
Week 2
Day 2: finally a sprout! There is a little damage to one of the cotyledons where soil was stuck to it. The night humidity is a work in process
Day 3: I brought the light down to about 7
inches above the seedling and adjusted the average VPD from 0.6 to 0.7 after seeing a couple gnats.
Day 4: No gnats today. I did some cleaning in the tent because the bottom had a bit of water in it. Unfortunately, when I picked up the cloth pot, the soil shifted enough to pop the seedling out. I gently flicked the seed off the root
Day 5: leaves are growing
Day 7: watered until runoff
Day 1: watered again, raised light intensity to 45%, distance to 18”, PPFD ~700, VPD ~0.8. Got high and top dressed 1/4C used coffee grounds
Day 3: drenched the soil… didn’t really need it, but I was testing new emitters
Watering a little bit each day
Day 3 (24): some curling and chlorosis on the oldest leaves. Roots to light imbalance?
Day 5 (26): pinched/dropped off the oldest leaves that were deteriorating; top dressed with 2tbsp Bio-live. Forgot to turn schedule back on 2x
