And so it begins ....
... again ....
I just harvested my first Pinot about a month ago ... and as soon as the first buzz crept up on me, I knew I was in love. I had just planted a Walter White BX1, and knew it was going to be a few more weeks for the next spot in the cycle ... but right after that poor lady sprouted, she was hit with a bit of a mite infestation and had to be destroyed before it spread to my other plants in the same tent. As sad as it was, I was kinda excited because that meant I could immediately plant another one of these beauties! And so I did ... and she germinated ... so here we go! :) (fingers crossed!)
ps. I will try the Walter White again in the next rotation (I just knew the buzz on this one rocked, so I wanted to make sure to get more going asap!)
color looks good ... growth looks good - at least what I'd expect ... minimal watering - just to wet the surface and a bit down the middle ... less than 1/2 gal for the whole week (but did mix in a weak solution of nutes - 25%)
Week 2 ... still looking good. I decided not to top this one ... and she's growing a bit faster than I'd expect at this point. I'm trying to do as little training on this one as possible ... just let her do her thang! I topped my first Pinot, so just going to see what difference there is in the end (I know - not really scientific unless I were growing clones ... best I got right now) :)
I was really trying to just "let it grow" .... she was going great - getting tall ... stretching ... but there were 4 branches completely shadowed by the massive fan leaves above ... I tried tucking for a few days .... which helped the stretch, but those bottom branches just couldn't get far enough ahead. So, I gave in and started shaping her up .. spreading her out (sorry, no innuendos intended) ... I just couldn't help myself ... there's something so satisfying about giving each branch it's own little area to thrive .... I've always had good luck with LST in the past, so why rock the boat, I guess ...
Only thing that might pose a problem, is the main cola had already gotten pretty tall, and thick ... and when I bent her over - while there wasn't a lot of strain on the base of the branch, the middle buckled and sorta super-cropped ... which I tried once in the past and didn't like the results (the main color stopped growing for about a week when it happened). I'm hoping that doesn't happen here ... in fact, I went ahead and pulled her down a little bit more - by the tip of her tippy tip tips .... should be an almost level canopy now ... will adjust as she perks back up.
There was some serious growth this week ... I gently spread out some of the branches - opened her up to the light all over ... the bud sites thrived. It's a beautiful thing!
