Haeuf Light 19:00 - 13:00 100% 200W Grow I added some soil and installed a watering system. Around 10:00 PM, about 150ml per plant. I'm also experimenting with exhaust and fans. I had to raise the lamp on 18.9. because the big one seemed to be getting too much heat. I have now set the exhaust, which I previously only ran for a few hours at night, to 1 hour on, 1 hour off. The fan additionally runs in the middle of the exhaust operation period for 30 minutes and then takes a 1.5-hour break. This significantly lowers the temperature in the tent. I will keep an eye on that. Day 14: Watering set for 8 AM and 8 PM, 150ml per plant. The distance to the largest is now 35cm at a height of 20cm. The smallest is still about 10cm.

Day 17 - Increased fertilizer to 2ml/l. Plant heights 15/25/42cm. Light distance 35-60cm. LST and defoliated. 27.9. Day 21 - Daily LST and defoliated. Had to close the second access of the small ones for 2 days due to slight overwatering (wet tent floor). Therefore, 450/225/225ml watering at 8 and 20 o'clock. The big one is now 45cm. The small ones are 20-25cm.

I had been observing the big one for the last few days. The faster growth was already noticeable, but I explained it to myself by the germination times. Today I mustered the courage and eliminated the big one because I believe it is male. I can't really explain it, but it is what it is. After that, I adjusted the setup: Light 19:00 - 13:00 100% 200W Grow Exhaust running continuously Fan 0:30h/1:30h Start 19:15 Watering 08:00+20:00 each 225ml/plant with 2ml/l Grow fertilizer Sizes: 25 and 20cm Distance from lamp 35-40cm Day 27 3.10. Since my exhaust pipe has some bends, I installed a second duct fan and a backdraft damper. I hope the system holds up against the next storm. I also installed an oscillating fan in the room and removed my small old fan. I heavily defoliated and think that flowering is just around the corner :) Tag 30 6.10. Heavily defoliated - probably for the last time for now. It looks like we’ll go into flowering this week. I also increased the watering a bit again, especially the left one is drinking quite a bit... Watering 08:00+20:00 each 450ml/plant with 2ml/l Grow fertilizer Tag 33 9.10. I adjusted everything for flowering last night, it's visibly starting :) Light 19:00 - 13:00 100% 200W Bloom Watering 08:00+20:00 each 450ml/plant with 2ml/l Bloom fertilizer and 0.25ml/l Grow fertilizer (calculated leftovers in the watering tank) Tag 34 10.10. It's incredible how much foliage the two are developing... I couldn't help but defoliate heavily again today, even if it’s hard to believe at first glance... Tag 35 11.10. I’m finishing week 5 with: Sizes just under 50cm and 35cm. The distance from the lamp is about 45cm from the larger one.

Haeufstarted grow question 2y ago
Hey everyone, I constantly feel the need to defoliate more because the plants seem way too dense to me. What do you think? Should I just let the little ones do their thing, defoliate again at a certain point later, or be diligent and do it every few days? (see report)

If it isn't causing condensation, do not remove any more leaves. Simple :P A bunch of overlappying leaves or leaves resting on the walls are things to avoid. Sometimes you can bend or shape the plant to avoid it or support it away from walls, etc. The last resort is to prune leaves. Leaves do many things beyond absorb light. Even if shielded, they are value-added. Storage, manufacturing building blocks, lungs, light absorption... leaves are important. The intake of CO2 is your limiting factor. Reduce leaves = reduction in growth potential - and that includes building flowers... all growth. Don't need intensie light to engage in transpiration. have a good reason to prune off a leaf. If you haven't overcrowded the canopy there should be very limited need to remove leaves at any point. Based on local environment, that plant 'wants' a certain number of leaves. if you deprive it of that need, it'll try to grow more -- this is why defoliation sometimes delays flower. if a plant has too many leaves relative to local environment provided, it will shed them. There is some sort of feedback mechanism in regard to this even if a plant doesn't have a CNS. Bottom line, the plant knows a hell of a lot better than us if it has too many leaves. Read "To defoliate or not..." on cocoforcannabis.com.

Since this is my first grow, I'm still unsure about the harvest time... Do you have any tips? The trichomes on the larger one look good, but for me, the buds could still be a bit bushier. It looks like they might have a deficiency, but I think they'll manage these last days...

They look great, especially how dense they are growing. Are you sure you've already defoliated? 😄
Haeuf
Haeuf commented2y ago
@germanwaldfee, thanks :) oh yeah, over the 4.5 weeks I've definitely removed about 50% of the leaf mass from today's state to expose the flower sites. I think they look great. I had the same strain this spring/summer on the balcony. No comparison! Much more foliage, much more mass, many more flower sites. Incredible that it's the same strain. Do you think I should defoliate even more right now? I actually wanted to let them rest for 2 weeks?!

germanwaldfee commented2y ago
@Haeuf, I'm not experienced enough to give advice on growing yet. But I would also give the girls some time to rest after a procedure. So do it the way you have planned. It looks to me like you're on the right track to a very good yield 👍
