After a rough, although, successful 1st grow and harvest, and holiday season, we are on to our 2nd grow. This time around I'm just going to try and continue to improve as a gardener and improve the quality of my medicine. Last grow was a basic organic living soil technique. This time we are going with a super soil technique. The beans were germinated directly into their final grow bags (1-3 gallon and 1-5 gallon). We are growing 2 West Coast OG, 6 Green Crack (separate diary) and a Tangie'matic (no diary). I only had 1 bean of Tangie and was looking forward to harvesting her sweet buds but she just stopped growing and shriveled up a little. I just left her until she fell over. But she never fell over and started growing again, about a day ago. Go figure. She probably won't amount to much, but since all I do from here on out is water, I'll probably just she what she will do. Anyway, I had 100% germination within 96 hrs, again, and they all look healthy. #1 was first out of the gate and #2 was last and about 24 hrs behind everyone else. I grew a WCOG in my last garden. It is some of the best and most potent smoke I've ever had so I'm looking forward to doubling my harvest and improving the flavor and potency. Thanks for tuning in, and turning on everyone and happy growing. As always, keep all critique and criticism to yourself.... just kidding. All comments, questions and critiques ARE greatly appreciated. Peace. @ClubRiot @hashy @GrowGreen @cylentknight @davisgirl @Lowhelium @dalemac @HighTV @Dahoola @Tripaholic88

Week 2 started out rough because I decided to over-water everyone. So much for not being able to overwater in coco. Anyway, some took it better than others but they all showed symptoms (droopy and curled leaf tips). I hate that I shocked 'em for a couple days and slowed their growth but they came back strong and look great. Growth has been rapid and their color is a healthy shade of green. Stems are bulking up and branching is underway. This Super Soil is a huge improvement over my first mixture, comparing where this grow is at day 14 compared to where my 1st grow was on the same day. It's like a difference of about a weeks worth of growth. Plants are happy and I'm happy. As always comments, suggestions, questions and critique is always welcome. Peace

Great growth and #1 showed her sex (F) during week 3. I didn't do a whole lot to any of them this week, let them recover from my overwatering the previous week and a lil' bit of leaf tucking. Compared to my WCOG last grow same day... no comparison really, last grow I was lucky to get anything from her. Makes me excited to see what these will do. The 5 gallon bag vs 3 gallon bag is starting show a difference too, with 5 gallon filling out a lil' more than 3 gallon. I also just popped another WCOG seed and a Sensible Seeds OG Kush Auto for a couple hempy buckets I'm getting ready to try. Thanks for tuning in everyone. Questions and comments are greatly appreciated. Happy gardening. I think the super soil may be kicking in. Growth this week has been explosive. They all doubled in size and their color is a beautiful shade of green with no signs of any deficiencies. I had to raise the light because they have been growing rapidly and showing signs of light stress. I may need all 8'6" of ceiling height for this grow. Most of the kolas are about 42 inches from the light. The WCOGs are coming in at 20 and 23 inches so far. No signs of flowering yet, although, both WCOGs are female. Everyone is getting a half gallon of RO water supplemented with; CalMag (4ml), brown sugar (1/2 tsp) and Epsom salts (1/2 tsp) per gallon. I appreciate everyone stopping by and checking up on the garden. All questions and comments are welcome. Peace

WCOG day 35 update. They are beasts, #1 is coming in at 39 inches and #2 slightly behind her at 37 inches. I hope they are close to finishing their stretch. They are currently about 32 inches from the light. During flower I would like to keep them about there and get as close as 24 inches near the end. They have been getting 64 oz of H2O per day for the past week + and they have been growing at a 2 to 3 inch per day clip. The garden is overflowing. I never expected the plants to get as big as they have. My last WCOG only got 15 inches, so I thought I could fit 9 plants no problem. I am trying to keep them all within a 4' X 4' area but it's getting stretched toward 5' x 5'. I need more lights! Anyway, it's been a fun week. Now the real fun begins, FLOWERING! Thanks for tuning in and please feel free to comment. Peace

West Coast OG, #1 in 5 gallon bag is 49 inches, #2 in a 3 gallon bag is 47 inches. End week 6 Day 42 Light: 20/ 4 cycle with 675w Perfect Sun COB and just added 4 AutoCobs (3500k, 60w each) to the mix (currently: approx. 18 inches from Kolas and 24 inches from canopy). Medium: Coco 80%, perlite 20% mixed with Nature's Living Soil concentrate (top 2/3, 1 lb/ 5 gallons medium; bottom 1/3, 1+1/2 lb/ 3 gallons medium). Feed: 1/2 gallon RO water with 4ml CaMg+, 1/2-1 tsp brown sugar and 1/2-1 tsp Epsom salt/ gallon/ day, temperature 66-73 F, pH 6.2-7.0. Room Temperature: 72-78 F Leaf surface Temperature: 68-82 F (always below 85 F). RH: 45-60% CO2: Lights On: 800-1200, Lights Out: 350-450 Another amazing week of growth. They are still stretching and going into full bloom. #1 is right in the middle and an absolute beast. #2 is against the wall and doing awesome. I am hoping they stop stretching because my light is as high as it will go right now and within 24 inches of the canopy and Kolas. If I have to , I can get another 5 inches (or so) of height if I change my rigging, I'll have to keep a close eye on 'em the next couple of days. And actually the WCOG are handling the light really well right now (better than the Green Crack), I just don't want them any closer. Anyway, the garden is too big to get pictures of individual plants so we will start working on bud porn in the upcoming weeks, buds are starting to get bigger and the frost is beginning. All comments and questions are welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks for stopping by and tuning in, peace and happy gardening.

Day 49 and the end of week 7 and the West Coast rules the garden. OG is doing what OG does... get big and frosty FastBuds style. #1 topped out at 50 inches and #2 finished up at 48 inches. Both girls settled right into flowering and turned on the frost machine. The fun is never ending! On to week 8! Peace

West Coast just keeps fattening and putting on the frost. They are starting to put out some purple hues and showing off their colors. Looking impressive. I also started seeing some spotting on the leaves of WCOG2. I haven't noticed it on any of the other coco based plants though. Anyone know what it is? I'm not really to worried about it because by the time I may figure it out and correct it, it will be harvest. My last WCOG went 10 weeks and I'm thinking these two girls will be about the same, another 3 weeks would be great. Get nice and fat and ripe. What can I say, the pictures speak for themselves. Week 9, day 63 and they are just about there. The first WCOG I ever grew went 76 days and I think I could have harvested her earlier. I'll get a good look at the trichomes this week again. I took cuttings a couple days ago and most were cloudy with amber here and there, so I'm thinking day 70 or so, we'll see, I got a busy work week coming up so it may be 10 days or so. Man, they are looking good and stinking up the place. Thanks for stopping by and checking out the grow. Peace

Removed the WCOGs from the garden on day 70. Both are 70 days young and ready for harvest. Their leaves are spent and the trichs are about 20% amber. Split the stalks and placed into darkness for 48 hrs. to help finish off the pistils and trichomes and stop all growth. Colors are amazing and bud density seems tight. The smell is pungent and powerful. Stay tuned for harvest results. Peace

This is the best strain I have ever grown and cured to completion. This is the second time I have grown WCOG and the consistency and quality of the product hasn't changed. WCOG is easy to grow and can withstand newbie mistakes like overwatering and pH fluctuations. Definitely a nighttime strain because it will sit you right on your ass. You can wake and bake with just a hit or two because it has a cerebral effect that turns heavy, just keep moving and motivated and don't use too much. Highly recommended

Overall, I was very pleased with the results of this grow. I learned a lot more about growing cannabis and I got plenty of excellent medicine for my fellow vets and me. I harvested two plants for 5 solid ounces (140 gm) plus all the shake and kief and sampling. The buds are fairly solid and dense the closer to the light they were. I got a lot of wispy buds the further away they get from the light, but still frosty and excellent flower. I did a wet trim this time, I didn't like dry trimming, took too long and didn't look good, too much leaf left over. I also removed as much flower from the stems as possible, so, the dry weight is 60-70% stem free. This did result in a lot of small buds and flower shake but everything is sticky and sweet. Top shelf cannabis. I love that I now have fresh organic herb that smokes smoothly and I'm not coughing from chemically grown warehouse weed that smells moldy and is dry as a desert. I did a supersoil grow that I need to tweak for the next round. I got a couple weeks to go on the hempy buckets in the grow room now, so, in the next few weeks I will be deciding on the next grow. I can get better yields if I learn to SOG or SCROG. I like letting 'em grow natural but some of the plants got too tall this round (not tall enough 1st time) so I have some learnin' to do. I will be starting the next round of plants to grow indoor and guerilla-style, along with my tomatos and cucmbers, soon. Hopefully by mid-May they'll be ready to go outside and the weather will be good. I just received some more FastBuds West Coast OG. Tangie-matic, Lemon AK and Zkittles. I also received as a freebie some Royal Queen Seeds Royal Cookies automatic seeds. Supposedly, they are large variety so I will try it outdoor this summer. Should be a good year. West Coast OG is everything you could want in an Indica dominate strain. It is a classic in smell and taste and effect. It is very pungent, ranging from diesel to lemon, you know immediately what it is. And this is coming from somebody who has a terrible sense of smell because I smoked cigarettes for way too long. The buds are beautifully colored in purple, green, brown, and gold. It's taste is a pleasant earthy pine inhale and a citrusy lemon exhale. Followed by an immediate cerebral tingle and relaxation. It's so pleasant you will want to repeat many times. At the end of a long day it is just what I need to settle down and relax and drift off into the rabbit hole. It helps immensely with my PTSD (the nightmares are kept at bay) and aching joints too. I highly recommend growing this strain. I will continue buying these seeds as a part of my rotation. Thanks for turning on and tuning in. All questions and comments are welcome. Peace

@Redeye_jedi, cool, all are welcome, just get on the bus, Gus. WCOG was my 1st harvest ever and I'm looking forward to improving on that one. Dense and frosty and flavorful buds. Also, I'm following your Wipeout Express because your using MegaCrop. I am going to be starting a couple Hempy Buckets using MC soon. I hear and see a lot of good things about MC and yours are looking very nice dude. Peace

Your PH for the nutrients looks fine for soil, but since this is a "super soil" have you taken the PH of a soil sample? I doubt your having PH problems but better safe than sorry. I'm a little confused about the lights. Is there a single 6 COB fixture or that plus some other lighting? I'm not saying they're wrong, but 60" for what I'm guessing is 200w (2 COB setting) seems really weak unless I'm missing something. If you can't find the μmols or a PAR map, post the make and model of the fixture and I'll see if I can get you better info.

@Smowkabowl, Here's a good, right to the point primer on light measurement. https://www.growell.co.uk/advice/hints-tips/light-measurement-lumens-lux-par-and-micromoles Here's a reasonable meter if you really want to dial in what your plants are getting. https://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-LGBQM-Quantum-Micromol-Sensor/dp/B0055F59LA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1547665551&sr=8-1&keywords=quantum+meter And if you like to play with numbers, here's a conversion chart http://www.egc.com/useful_info_lighting.php
Smowkabowl
Smowkabowlcommented6 years ago
@bosgrower, thanks for the info. With everything we now know, how would we best use this light? Should we just start at full strength? What distance at what stage would be best? Any way of knowing? I don't have a PAR meter but I could go by lumens as a general measurement: 30,000 to 50,000 for veg and 50,000 to 90,000 for flower. Peace

Great strain for Indica lovers :) If you haven't considered it, think about topping them once after the 3rd node. The last one I grew under 800w of COBs was 48" .. and if I had the filter in the tent the lights would have been too low for a plant that tall. I didn't journal that one since it was a single seed but the dry yield was a hair under 4oz. I think your light is too high ... which is why the seedlings are stretching so much. Light intensity decreases at the square of the distance so while it looks nice and bright in there, the plants are only getting a fraction of the photons they need. If you're worried about stressing them, go to 36" for the first week after they sprout and then 24" after they establish. Looking at the bent stems, be prepared to use stakes to support the plants once they start to flower and but on weight. You may even want to add some Botanicare Silca Blast for a couple of weeks to strengthen the structure. Good luck with the grow ... I'll look in on your to see how it's going.

@bosgrower, thanks for the looking in brother, I appreciate the insight. I grew a WCOG last year and although it was my 1st, I was lucky it even survived, it only got to 15 inches and only yielded but 21 grams. It is pure kush kindness, excellent smoke. That being said, I'm just hoping to keep improving with each grow. As far as the lights go, they are very powerful and the manufacturer recommends 60 inches for seedling and early veg. 48 to 36 inches for veg and early flower. And 24 inches and lower for late flower. These lights have 3 settings, 2 COBs, 4 COBs and 6 COBs. Along with different combinations of the Bridgelux panels. Last grow I think I lowered the lights too fast and stunted the plants and kept the plants from reaching a good height. So, this grow I started with 2 COBs at 60 inches (5 ft.). After germination and 3 days I turned it to 4 COBs at 60 in., then 6 COBs after 7 days at 60 inches. After 4 days, I started slowly lowering the light fixture (about 3 inches every other day). Right now they are at about 52 inches. I will continue to lower 'em until 36 inches from the canopy. After flowering starts I'll stay at 36 the 1st week or 2 then start to push 'em the last couple weeks or so. We'll see how it goes. Which brings me to an issue that may be light related. I'll be updating in a couple days and I'll get some pictures and post a question, but, I have a couple plants, one of them the WCOG, that the leaves are cupping under and won't flatten out. Do you think that may be a light stress issue or a nutrient or pH issue? Also, I did put some supports in to help until the stems started bulking up, which they did rather quickly this grow. I noticed last grow they really bulk up in the third week. This grow they bulked up even sooner into the second week and they are all good now, except Tangie which almost looks like a thread. Appreciate the conversation. Peace

Nice harvest and numbers bro.! Looks like it turned out great...! Trimming sucks either way dosen't it lol... I'm really considering purchasing a bowl leaf trimmer for the next round because sometimes it takes me 6-8 hours just to do the first trim... It sucks so I'm looking to cut trim time down by 80% with this machine. )

Smowkabowlcommented6 years ago
@Cosmic_haze, appreciate you tuning in bro. Turned out great for me. My goal this round was 2 ounces per plant. I exceeded that and I know it will get better as I learn more. The arrow is pointing up. Yeah, trimming sucks. I'm right with you at the 6 - 8 hour mark. These past 2 weeks have not been fun with all the trimming. I have harvested 7 plants, two are still drying and the rest is in jars curing, on top of going to work each day. I have had some late nights without much rest. It is all worth it in the end though. I'll be interested in your leaf trimmer results if you try it. Peace

@Cosmic_haze, they are looking phat! Calcium def is what 1st came to mind. I guess I should have increased the feedings a few weeks ago. I have been giving 'em 4 ml per gallon of Botanicare CalMag+ (I got CalMag Pro for the MegaCrop bt don't thinl I need it) since week 2. I should probably have upped it to 5 or 6 ml by now. They have all looked so good up until now and besides she is the only one to show that deficiency so far. Appreciate the insight though. Peace

@smowkabowl I'm definitely going to follow your grows as well! I love your "stilo" of growing! "Blue" (blue dream'atic) just picked up speed again. I kicked myself in the @$$ when I realized I was going to have to transplant. Listen, FastBuds can take it...but I'd rather not add the stress. I'm starting to bend her today and I'm most likely going to top the Pineapple Express. The LSD...not sure. May just let her go "natural" with defoliation. I'm going to do a side by side journal (comparative grow) Fox Farm Trio vs. Autoflower specific Living Soil. I'll remind ya! 😉😊🤗 Happy Growing ALL!

@BlazinMomma, cool, tag me for sure. This is my 2nd grow using a living soil mix (2nd grow ever as far as that goes). The 1st was a straight living soil with a top dressing a week after flower. This round the bottom 1/3 is a super soil mix with the top 2/3 a living soil mix. It seems that when the roots hit the SS the growth exploded for week 3, wait until you see my update. As far as all the training goes, I'm still learning to grow a healthy plant, so I'l do a little leaf tucking and very little defoliation. I'm all about 'no stress' right now. Anyway, happy growing and I'll be following along. Peace

@Cosmic_haze, thanks bro. I'm excited to see what these AutoCobs will do. I'm using 1 as a supplemental to the big area and the others are over Tangie and the Hempy buckets. Check out my other diaries. My grow room is 8x8x8 and I was trying to keep the grow area to a 4x4 space but they soon outgrew that space. AutoCobs to the rescue. Peace

Man they are looking good... Lol I told you that they will get to be beasts.! Dude they will over take your grow area quick...! I actually had to cut the main cola off of one of mine because grew into my light.! I eventually had to go purchase a shower curtain rod in order to get my light raised higher...))

@Cosmic_haze, Dude, #1 is a beast, she has middle position and she came in at 42 inches today. I got my light as high as it will go right now, It is about 28 inches from the kola top and about 32 inches from the canopy. I want to be at about 24 inches during flower so I hope they are about to finish stretching. Did you see my rigging? I used a rod for a clothes closet and chains and the ceiling height is 8' 6". I know a way to go higher if need be. Thanks for stopping by. Peace
the end.
