West Coast just keeps fattening and putting on the frost. They are starting to put out some purple hues and showing off their colors. Looking impressive.
I also started seeing some spotting on the leaves of WCOG2. I haven't noticed it on any of the other coco based plants though. Anyone know what it is? I'm not really to worried about it because by the time I may figure it out and correct it, it will be harvest. My last WCOG went 10 weeks and I'm thinking these two girls will be about the same, another 3 weeks would be great. Get nice and fat and ripe.
Thanks for tuning in, please leave a "like" or comment on your way out. Peace
@Redeye_jedi, cool, all are welcome, just get on the bus, Gus. WCOG was my 1st harvest ever and I'm looking forward to improving on that one. Dense and frosty and flavorful buds. Also, I'm following your Wipeout Express because your using MegaCrop. I am going to be starting a couple Hempy Buckets using MC soon. I hear and see a lot of good things about MC and yours are looking very nice dude. Peace
Your PH for the nutrients looks fine for soil, but since this is a "super soil" have you taken the PH of a soil sample? I doubt your having PH problems but better safe than sorry.
I'm a little confused about the lights. Is there a single 6 COB fixture or that plus some other lighting?
I'm not saying they're wrong, but 60" for what I'm guessing is 200w (2 COB setting) seems really weak unless I'm missing something. If you can't find the μmols or a PAR map, post the make and model of the fixture and I'll see if I can get you better info.
@Smowkabowl, Here's a good, right to the point primer on light measurement.
https://www.growell.co.uk/advice/hints-tips/light-measurement-lumens-lux-par-and-micromoles
Here's a reasonable meter if you really want to dial in what your plants are getting.
https://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-LGBQM-Quantum-Micromol-Sensor/dp/B0055F59LA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1547665551&sr=8-1&keywords=quantum+meter
And if you like to play with numbers, here's a conversion chart
http://www.egc.com/useful_info_lighting.php
@bosgrower, thanks for the info. With everything we now know, how would we best use this light? Should we just start at full strength? What distance at what stage would be best? Any way of knowing? I don't have a PAR meter but I could go by lumens as a general measurement: 30,000 to 50,000 for veg and 50,000 to 90,000 for flower. Peace
Great strain for Indica lovers :) If you haven't considered it, think about topping them once after the 3rd node. The last one I grew under 800w of COBs was 48" .. and if I had the filter in the tent the lights would have been too low for a plant that tall. I didn't journal that one since it was a single seed but the dry yield was a hair under 4oz.
I think your light is too high ... which is why the seedlings are stretching so much. Light intensity decreases at the square of the distance so while it looks nice and bright in there, the plants are only getting a fraction of the photons they need. If you're worried about stressing them, go to 36" for the first week after they sprout and then 24" after they establish.
Looking at the bent stems, be prepared to use stakes to support the plants once they start to flower and but on weight. You may even want to add some Botanicare Silca Blast for a couple of weeks to strengthen the structure.
Good luck with the grow ... I'll look in on your to see how it's going.
@Smowkabowl, Dude if you didn't see the West Coast OG I grew.? Check it out.! I got over 17 oz from only 2 plants.! You talking about loud lol I can sometimes smell it through jars I have it in... No doubt this is one of Fastbuds best strain.! She can grow to a beast in the right conditions.! I'm gonna follow you on this grow.))
@bosgrower, thanks for the looking in brother, I appreciate the insight. I grew a WCOG last year and although it was my 1st, I was lucky it even survived, it only got to 15 inches and only yielded but 21 grams. It is pure kush kindness, excellent smoke. That being said, I'm just hoping to keep improving with each grow.
As far as the lights go, they are very powerful and the manufacturer recommends 60 inches for seedling and early veg. 48 to 36 inches for veg and early flower. And 24 inches and lower for late flower. These lights have 3 settings, 2 COBs, 4 COBs and 6 COBs. Along with different combinations of the Bridgelux panels. Last grow I think I lowered the lights too fast and stunted the plants and kept the plants from reaching a good height. So, this grow I started with 2 COBs at 60 inches (5 ft.). After germination and 3 days I turned it to 4 COBs at 60 in., then 6 COBs after 7 days at 60 inches. After 4 days, I started slowly lowering the light fixture (about 3 inches every other day). Right now they are at about 52 inches. I will continue to lower 'em until 36 inches from the canopy. After flowering starts I'll stay at 36 the 1st week or 2 then start to push 'em the last couple weeks or so. We'll see how it goes.
Which brings me to an issue that may be light related. I'll be updating in a couple days and I'll get some pictures and post a question, but, I have a couple plants, one of them the WCOG, that the leaves are cupping under and won't flatten out. Do you think that may be a light stress issue or a nutrient or pH issue?
Also, I did put some supports in to help until the stems started bulking up, which they did rather quickly this grow. I noticed last grow they really bulk up in the third week. This grow they bulked up even sooner into the second week and they are all good now, except Tangie which almost looks like a thread.
Appreciate the conversation. Peace
Nice harvest and numbers bro.! Looks like it turned out great...! Trimming sucks either way dosen't it lol... I'm really considering purchasing a bowl leaf trimmer for the next round because sometimes it takes me 6-8 hours just to do the first trim... It sucks so I'm looking to cut trim time down by 80% with this machine. )
@Cosmic_haze, appreciate you tuning in bro. Turned out great for me. My goal this round was 2 ounces per plant. I exceeded that and I know it will get better as I learn more. The arrow is pointing up. Yeah, trimming sucks. I'm right with you at the 6 - 8 hour mark. These past 2 weeks have not been fun with all the trimming. I have harvested 7 plants, two are still drying and the rest is in jars curing, on top of going to work each day. I have had some late nights without much rest. It is all worth it in the end though. I'll be interested in your leaf trimmer results if you try it. Peace
Niiice.! 8 weeks and I see some red hairs showing already... The spots are a slight calming deficiency bro but that's to be expected when using coco and it's an easy fix though... Didn't you say you purchased some Mega Crop calmag.?
@Cosmic_haze, they are looking phat! Calcium def is what 1st came to mind. I guess I should have increased the feedings a few weeks ago. I have been giving 'em 4 ml per gallon of Botanicare CalMag+ (I got CalMag Pro for the MegaCrop bt don't thinl I need it) since week 2. I should probably have upped it to 5 or 6 ml by now. They have all looked so good up until now and besides she is the only one to show that deficiency so far. Appreciate the insight though. Peace
@@cylentknight, Right! I don't know if this is the stretch or regular vegetative growth. A couple of 'em haven't shown their sex yet and none have gone into preflower. I just hope I don't end up with a photoperiod and go through what you went through last grow. Still, I couldn't be happier with the progress and overall health of these babies. Peace
@smowkabowl I'm definitely going to follow your grows as well! I love your "stilo" of growing! "Blue" (blue dream'atic) just picked up speed again. I kicked myself in the @$$ when I realized I was going to have to transplant. Listen, FastBuds can take it...but I'd rather not add the stress. I'm starting to bend her today and I'm most likely going to top the Pineapple Express. The LSD...not sure. May just let her go "natural" with defoliation. I'm going to do a side by side journal (comparative grow) Fox Farm Trio vs. Autoflower specific Living Soil. I'll remind ya! 😉😊🤗 Happy Growing ALL!
@BlazinMomma, cool, tag me for sure. This is my 2nd grow using a living soil mix (2nd grow ever as far as that goes). The 1st was a straight living soil with a top dressing a week after flower. This round the bottom 1/3 is a super soil mix with the top 2/3 a living soil mix. It seems that when the roots hit the SS the growth exploded for week 3, wait until you see my update. As far as all the training goes, I'm still learning to grow a healthy plant, so I'l do a little leaf tucking and very little defoliation. I'm all about 'no stress' right now. Anyway, happy growing and I'll be following along. Peace
@@cylentknight, very cool, I appreciate it. I'm really looking forward to another grow and harvest. Every time I smoke my own weed I have to laugh and smile. I think about that scene in Caddy Shack where Bill Murray says to Chevy Chase, "I grow my own" "It's a cross between Kentucky Blue Grass and Northern California Sensimilla"...………. "It's a little harsh"..... LOL! Peace
@@cylentknight, thanks man, they are fattening up nicely for organic grown. I was thinking maybe pulling 'em this weekend but I want to push 'em at the same time.... decisions, decisions. Peace
Lookin good brotha.! And I read that you've got 4 Autocobs now... That's awesome bro 4 Autocobs is all I use for my grow space as you already know and I get killer results.! I'm looking forward to your end results on this run
@Cosmic_haze, thanks bro. I'm excited to see what these AutoCobs will do. I'm using 1 as a supplemental to the big area and the others are over Tangie and the Hempy buckets. Check out my other diaries. My grow room is 8x8x8 and I was trying to keep the grow area to a 4x4 space but they soon outgrew that space. AutoCobs to the rescue. Peace
Man they are looking good... Lol I told you that they will get to be beasts.! Dude they will over take your grow area quick...! I actually had to cut the main cola off of one of mine because grew into my light.! I eventually had to go purchase a shower curtain rod in order to get my light raised higher...))
@Cosmic_haze, Dude, #1 is a beast, she has middle position and she came in at 42 inches today. I got my light as high as it will go right now, It is about 28 inches from the kola top and about 32 inches from the canopy. I want to be at about 24 inches during flower so I hope they are about to finish stretching. Did you see my rigging? I used a rod for a clothes closet and chains and the ceiling height is 8' 6". I know a way to go higher if need be. Thanks for stopping by. Peace
