Very light top-dressing, watered in with a 1/2 cup of watered down aerated light fertilizer tea (using same nutes).
0.03125 gal = 1/2 cup
She's coming along. The weak tea maybe could have been even weaker 😕, but I they'll get over it. They were all due for a drink so they got a decent flush to help wash out whatever I did.
with el-cheapo pH/EC/PPM meter in hand, our steadfast hero prepares to enter the dragon's den to save the fair maiden...
Lighting=20 on 4 off, blue veg lights on
1Tbsp Dr. Earth 4-6-3 top-dressed, massaged in, and watered down with 1 quart of pH 5.8 de-chlorinated, carbon filtered water.
I added a cheap Vick's warm air humidifier in front of my oscillating fan, halfway through the week. Temp/RH much better now... not perfect but as winter approaches, the basement temperature will drop by about 10 degrees (typically) which should improve the VPD in the Basement Grow Zone (BGZ). I've brought BGZ VPD down from 1.7-ish to 1.1 or so.
The four sensors are:
1: BGZ @ eye level
2: BGZ @ canopy
3: BGZ @ knee level
IN: Main Floor Living Space @ waist level

Coming along nicely. A bit of a slow start due to my own newb-liness.
My overall plan this grow cycle is to let grow naturally with limited manhandling, so I can get a decent baseline which can inform my future grows for this cultivar. There is no point in mucking about with unknowns until you know em, ya know?!
With the new humidifier comes better data collection!
Created a pivot table in my Google spreadsheet to better organize and present the data I'm collecting.
Santa bringing new humidifier and lights before Thanksgiving.
Another new week and she's still alive! W00T!
Performing the very lightest of LST just to keep her exposed in the center.
I've decided that for improved workflow in the garden, I'm keeping my 5gal bucket of aerated water at a low pH; around 3 or so. Why? I find that scooping a few cups of the low pH water into a pitcher and topping the pitcher off with tap water to bring it up to the ideal 6-ish range is fast and easy. In case of passing the pH target I just pour some water from the pitcher back into the bucket, add more tap water to pitcher - just add water... literally.
The new grow lights won't arrive in time to do this lady much good. It will be interesting to compare under-powered vs properly lit grows.
Update: New lights are here!! 4ea SZHLUX PT-1800 online, and I've got 4 more waiting for another circuit to be run. The older weaker lights will be used for cloning and seedlings around the grow space.
I like how I can arrange the lamps in different ways. I think I want to add 2 more to the cluster, for a 5 lamps X 180w each = 900watt 'cone-of-sunshine' arrangement for deep canopy penetration (vs the 3x180 = 540watt 'teepee-of-light'). I really like the idea of giving my ladies the full 9 (9-hundred watts, that is).
...OR...
Maybe it'd be better to go the 1-plant=1-lamp route along the walls. There'd be plenty of overlap in the adjacent light cones to provide decent side-light canopy penetration... maybe?!
What are your thoughts on possible arrangements of 8ea of these lights in a roughly 6'x12' corner of a basement?
Even though my Wurlz didn't get the best start, I really do like the form she takes. The main cola and other branches form a pretty nice canopy on their own with minimal fuss. Right now she looks like a dozen or so nice buttons plus the main cola. She seems to be loving the new lights, and I'm watching closely for stresses the higher PPFD and DLI may induce.
After playing with the new lights, I've set them to 14" above the canopy which provides:
PPFD: 700-ish
Lighting: 20/4
DLI: 40 or so... maybe a bit over.
😊
This is one dense dwarf of a plant. Definitely a shower, not a grower. I think the final result is gonna be pretty nice tho. After tucking leaves ( I should defoliate) and moving buds around, my fingers have a soothing mellow 'brown' smell of maybe caramels and chocolates. Persimmon maybe? Def much better than the cat-piss smell of the schwag at the local dispensaries!
with the trim and broken branch, should I call this a Harvest week? LOL! I'm calling the Ounce+ trim and broken branch freebies and not counting towards the final harvest. SHHH!!! It's out little secret! 😉
Updated data pic with latest dashboard layout. It's not perfect, but I think it is better.
I'm seeing lots of cloudy and some amber in the closeups on my phone - gonna need to figure out image stabilization on that infernal thing. Anyway, probably gonna give her the axe in the morning.
Dunno if she loves the abuse she got, but she took it like a pro!
In the beginning my plants were all at a disadvantage. Supplies didn't arrive when they were needed and my light was completely inadequate; plus being new I thought I had a clue. I've learned a lot overcoming the challenges, and in the end I've discovered that cannabis plants are like my wife of almost 35 years: i.e. generally quite forgiving if you go the extra mile to understand whats going on.
I am absolutely going to grow Wurlz F1 Auto again! With 2 beans remaining, I think I'm gonna do a side-by-side with one in a 3gal 'tall/narrow' fabric pot, and one in a 'normal' 5 gal.
Closeups showed a fair bit of cloudy and amber, so chop chop chop goes the axe.
I pulled an even 28 grams from her earlier, plus the 119grams from the harvest is 147 grams of well trimmed bud on the drying rack - wet-trimmed with enough stem to handle and no massive stalks or leaves that is 5.25 Oz which should dry and cure down to roughly... huuurrmmm... 1.3-ish Oz (36-ish grams) when done. Given the rough start, I'm quite pleased.
When I re-run this strain I expect that I'd be able to easily triple the current harvest. It will be fun to watch the side-by-side grow data populate over time.

Why doesn't GD provide anny sort of proper dataviz? Not like it's hard or anything - I built my data collection and visualization using stone knives and bear skins while trapped in 1930s New York fer crying out loud!
How about an API we can POST/GET.
...aaaaand... while I'm at it, the grow space should be it's OWN diary with specific grows as child records of that space, and weekly diary entries as child records of that.. A little bit of simple database relationship planning goes a long way, people!

Sorry,
that was 'Yester-Durp' ; he was a 30+ year data dork, now retired 😏. He slipped loose and grabbed the controls for a sec but is now once again safely restrained 😳.
Update: I noticed that some growers have a thing for root-ball-pr0n so I got a little dirty and took / posted some root-nudes.😜
I think that is quite a good yield, especially because of all the things, that didn't go so well.
And thanks for the root-shots, I'm always curious, how good they are developed!
Love this quote 😂 "I've discovered that cannabis plants are like my wife of almost 35 years: i.e. generally quite forgiving if you got the extra mile to understand whats going on"
@MrGoonai, yeah, I'm pretty chill with regards to the plants... it's the rest of life that stresses me out... weather, lamps, humidifier and heater fails, supply line issues... when stuff *outside* of my control goes south is when I tend to heat up 😡.
All of my autos seem a couple of weeks behind (low PPFD/PAR/DLI, cold temps, low humidity, high VPD) and that's ok - more time to plump that rump, amirite?
I've looked at a lot of other grows here, and overall while my ladies are certainly smaller they aren't generally developmentally stunted.
While my photos are vegging I want to re-run the 5 autos I've currently got going. The data should be entertaining at least 😆.
@MrGoonai, Thanks, she's surprising the heck outta me considering the early abuses she endured. Under the new lights though she is thriving. The marketing brochure indicates that she's ready tomorrow-ish but I think she's got maybe another week or two. She's starting to stack, I guess, and getting a little frost near the buttons.
Is this really week 4? So till day 28? If so, why is she so small? 😨 (Mine was 58cm tall @day 24; no topping or real LST done...)
What happened? Did you water enough and also moistened the whole pot?
@@DurpDankley, Yeah, low humidity is really problematic. :-(
Damn, I'm sorry, that happened! But Wurlz is still nice and can handle lower temperatures.
@MrGoonai, Not a watering issue, but a little stress early on with all 5 week ladies.
Slow start to the nutes - planned for a more hydro style grow, but reality kicked me in the head and I had to switch to Dr. Earth dry organics. No chance to pre-load the substrate so top-dressed and watered in a bit late.
I update/add weeks on Fridays and take pix thruout, uploading as I find time. My grow space is also fairly chilly (less than 70F) and pretty dry (at 30% RH), so that was likely a factor as well. Will update some pix today.
@MrGoonai, heh, I was supposed to post the start of week 6 yesterday but have been distracted with data, and pivot tables, and charts 😆 .
My Wurlz isn't leading the charts in any way but she's doing quite well, thanks for asking. Obviously a little stunted and a bit slow to flower (VPD and lighting issues).
I'll be posting updated plant pix later today once my phone is charged.
I have new lights coming for my improved 12'x12' growspace/office in a couple of weeks - Santa says I've been very naughty in the best of ways 😇, and a bag full of SHZLUX 180W LEDs are coming... 8 of em in fact 😁.
There were some leaves blocking some buds and some lower branches which were in a lot of shade, so I went ahead and did a little defoliating and pruning which provided an early harvest of 28 wet-grams which is now drying on the rack - I figure after the cure I might get 4-6 trimmed dry grams from this cutting.
Those buds are soooo sticky!!
😋
Well, a bunch of the new lights are up and running. Thank you Santa!!!! Let's see if this little Wurlzy gurlz' internal clock has merely been running slow and will catch back up a bit over the next week or few, or if she'll just finish up with just a few tiny little button nugs.
There are no failures, only opportunities to learn (except maybe for Amazon and Vevor... the fail seems pretty consistent on their ends).
Looking at her this afternoon and she seems to be starting to show, so I gave her preferential seating under the lights. My data says she should finish up around the 21st. If my new lights arrive on the 12th like they are supposed to then she could get a solid week of decent light at the end. Next to harvest after that is my Karen Kush Auto a week later on the 28th, Pink Rozay Auto and Green Crack on Dec. 5th, and Critical Cheese Auto on Dec. 10th.
