Week 9. Flowering

Day 72 of flower and I finally saw what I wanted in the trichomes and pistils so pulled her tonight and she’s drying. I had multiple issues with this plant, all due to my own mistakes. Earlier in veg I based my lighting power on a ppfd reading that unfortunately was incorrect as the lens was dirty and gave a false reading. As such, she suffered severe light stress in veg and I also overwatered really bad in the earlier stages of veg which caused all sorts of other issues. Because of all of that I delayed flipping to flower until I felt like I had those issues under control. Further, she was looking so bad at one time that I did very little training because the plant looked like it was well on its way to dying. So because of both of those I ended up with a very uneven canopy and also ran into serious height issues during stretch. I took so long to flip that they were wayyyy too tall during flower and I had to rig my lights up higher. Total height of the plant including 5g pot was around 5’9” I believe. Way too tall for my tent. However, I made it to the end of flower and am so excited for when these are dry. Humboldt’s description that it grows large and dense nugs is no lie lol. These nugs are incredibly dense and also very large despite the fact that I’m only using the 200w lamp that came with my grow tent kit lol. I’m very curious as to what my dry yield will be. The smell was a mix of piney/lemony/funk? Smells great though. The nugs were also really sticky with resin. I have some much more high quality pics on my dslr but my laptop is broken at the moment so for now all I have are my cell phone pics. When I finally edit the photos it’ll really do justice of how pretty these nugs are. I’m really looking forward to a few weeks from now when I can sample a little.

I was blown away by my total yield with this strain considering I had major deficiencies at one time and because my lighting set up is such a beginner set up. Great to know that my lighting is capable of hitting 1g/w in yield. The nugs were very dense so that contributed to my yield as well as the long veg time which was required to correct some deficiencies. Total yield from one plant was 197 grams, or just a smidge over seven ounces, of dried and trimmed flower. The “smoke” (I typically use a dry herb vape) is certainly very piney which is great because I was wanting a pine dominant strain. Dry time was 6 days/nights and then put in grove bags for a cure once they were dried to 60% RH. I typically like a little longer dry but my drying temps were averaging 69 degrees which is a little higher than what this perfectionist would like. Avg RH was 59 percent over the drying period. The flower came out perfectly dried and cured for my tastes. Sticky/stinky nugs that burn very well. 3/4 of the bags are heat sealed for a longer cure period while one bag is opened up after two weeks.

Always happy with HSC strains and their Emerald Fire OG is no exception. Sticky, dense piney nugs and a very high yield strain!
