Using 2 seeds in a luke warm water shotglass. Placing in cupboard to germinate.
Day1: Nothing yet
Day2: One of the seeds started to sprout. Showing it's sexy little tail. I'll monitor the growth in the next 24hrs and then decide whether she's ready for the sproutling pot or not.
Day3: Tails were looking pretty good - forgot to take a photo :/ roughly 1cm for one of them, which is the one that I decided to plant. It really hurt when I chucked the other seed, but I really only need one plant. Soil mix for the sproutling: Coco Coir - 70%, Vermiculite - 15%, Perlite - 15%. I also added Greenhouse Feeding "BioGrow" and Mycorrhiza. The picture was taken from my RPi + Cam setup that will be taking 2 photos/min. I'll post the timelapse at the end of the day.
Day4: Running the whole day in the tent with ventilation running minimally. Light only at 20%. No action, so I deleted all the pictures except for the last one taken before the lights went out.
Day5: No activity above the soil level. Probably spent the whole day focusing on root growth.
Day6: At around 09:20 I watered again and with this uncovered the first signs of life! The rest of the day was mostly uneventful - until the evening. Roughly 2hrs before lights-out she started to move.
Day7: Things starting to look really good :)
Day8: First day of the new week. I assume still pretty much focusing on roots, as the top didn't really do much today.
Day9: Nothing special. But she's growing
Day10: Still roots, it seems. Very little happening up top.
Day11: Effort being put into growing the top leaves. They increased in size. I assume that the next node will start tomorrow - kicking off the switch into Veg.
Day12: Next node already showing :D
Day13: I put in a humidifier and changed the cycle of the extractor to keep more moisture in the growbox. My humidity was way too low.
Day14: This time the humidity was too high. It was sitting at around 95% when the lights went on.
Day15 - Day17: I had some difficulties to get the humidity right. It was either too high or fluctuating too much. I ended up getting a timer for the plug and running the humidifier 15mins every hour. To help with air flow, I have the main duct fan running 4 times a day for an hour. To ensure that there's airflow around the plant, I have a fan in the light as well as a smaller clip-on fan that runs during light hours. I'm not sure how the camera moved on day17... I only watered it mid-day.
Day18: The timer on the humidifier and Duct Fan is now keeping the humidity in a good space. VPD now under control
Day19: The Vivosun controller perfectly adapted the lighting schedule to an hour earlier, to ensure 6hrs of darkness. UInfortunately the RPi kept it's 04:00 schedule (makes sense). So I captured an hour of darkness. Adapted everything. Will have 18hrs again from Day20 onwards.
Day20: In the next days I'll lift the camera higher for a better view of what's happening up top. My mesh-netting-dingsbums will arrive and I'll use this as a platform for the pi+camera.
Day21: I'm not sure if I like this angle. I'll only keep it like this until she goes into veg-mode. It at least shows the new nodes growing from different perspective
Day22: As said in Week3, I will not keep this perspective for the whole grow, as it doesn't really show the size of the plant. But it gives a nice view of how to top leaves grow :) The flashes that you see in the video is the humidifier. It pumps out vapour every hour for 15mins. So basically a quarter of each second of the video will be when the humidifier runs.
Day23: I changed it, as I wanted to see the size as well.
Day24 - Day28: Happy, healthy growth.
Day29: New sets of leaves. I'll repot and switch to proper Veg Lights on the weekend.
Day30: I'll repot tomorrow.
Day31: Repotting done. She had a crazy amount of roots in the seedling pot. MUCH more than I expected. I switched to Veg lights at 90% power.
Day32: Settling in new pot
Day33 & 34: I had to perform some maintenance on the tent. Lost some hours due to that.
Day35: Growth really looking healthy. Although she's not really stretching high, she does look rather happy. I do like them thicc ;)
General: I need to put the camera somewhere else so that the growth can be better seen. Right at the end I'll edit out the white flashes. They're caused by the humidifier running and will be really easy to cut out without losing the gist of the grow :)
Day36, 37, 38: Seems to be growing a set of leaves per day now. Super growth! Stretching to the top.
Day39: I had a hiccup with the camera. For some reason it stopped responding at 04:30 in the morning. I only realized it much later. I still don't really know why, but reseating the data ribbon fixed the issue.
Day40: After fixing the camera, I decided to take this view again. The Lady is starting to show some nice growth and this view will show it best. If you look carefully, you'll see that her branches are not green, but rather reddish. Definitely related to genetics :) Everything else is within limits. Plus, the leaves look super healthy.
Day41: Here you can see the stem colour better.
I might switch the lights in the next days. Depending on her growth.
Day44: Added some water and moved the camera a little further away.
Day45: She felt lonely, so I got her a friend... Theobroma Cacao. New seedling that needs the warmth + humidity. Hopefully surviving winter.
Day46: I decided to take some zoomed in stills of her. To show off her beauty. The purpling of the branches really make this lady something special. In some of the shots it might look like her leaves are yellowing, but it's just the angle of the light. You can see on the photo that I took from the top, that all leaves are a healthy dark green. At least I now have proof that she's a lady. She's short and stubby, but I'm not really growing for amount. I just neeed 50g, after all (hehe)
Day47: She grew like a demon overnight. I'll check the height tomorrow.
Switched to flowering. She grew 10cm in 3 days... absolutely crazy.
I took the tough decision to discontinue the TimeLapse. My tent is not big enough to have the camera in a place that kinda makes sense. So I'll be taking manual photos in the coming days and uploading those.
So I haven't really uploaded so much. Realized that I missed a whole week :(
She's doing really great, though. I uploaded some photos I took today. She double in size from the last update that I gave. No joke. She was around 32cm and she's now 70cm. I also uploaded some pictures of her leaves with a measuring stick. If I didn't include the stick, I don't think many would believe me. 21cm long and around 5cm wide. That's the biggest blade that she has. Crazy...
Bud formation at the top looking good. The rest of the nodes are starting to show some activity, but not too much yet.
Primarily only plain water (1 liter) every 2nd day. BioEnhancer (GreenHouseFeeding) once a week. I also provide a calcium + magnesium booster every 2nd week. But low dose.
For nutrients, I added BIoBloom from GreenHouseFeeding. Great mycelium growth on the surface. I just know that the soil is happy :)
Trying to capture as much of the colour change as I can. The name of the strain is starting to bulldoze through. The dark green leaves are becoming a deep purple-amber colour and the colas are starting to get purple hues as well.
Colour explosion. Purple is taking over completely. There's very few leaves left that has not turned a deep purple-amber. The colas are looking super. Now just waiting for them to fatten up.
Something that is really obvious with this strain is the incredibly large fan leaves. The plant is only 75cm high, but the fan leaves are bigger than 30cm in diameter. There are about 7 of these big ones. I started to trim some of the foliage away to improve light penetration - taking 1 big leaf and 3 smaller ones every 4 days. I placed the leaf in a 30cmx30cm double-glass portrait. I'll take a photo of it and upload as well in the next days.
I stopped adding cal/mag .
Added another dose of Green House Feeding BioBloom.
The plant is growing in a Lechuza pot. So the excess water collects at the bottom. I then syphon it out and re-water the plant every few days. This is an absolute game-changer - as I never have to worry about overwatering.
I'll add some photos tomorrow. For now just wanted to update regarding the smell. First things first, the carbon filter works really well. There is almost no smell in the room (I can't smell anything, but my wife insists there is a faint smell). When you open the tent, there is a pretty decent smell coming through... but it doesn't smell like cannabis. To me it smells rather like hops (they are related, after all). My wife describes it as a minty-cannabis smell. But I insist that it's hops (I have 2 hop plants and brew beer rather regularly - so I think I'll call myself the profi here xD)
She's also rather thirsty. Added 2l yesterday and she used all of it. The Lechuza pot was empty. I added another 2l today (Friday) and will monitor her thirst. I'll only again add some water on Sunday or Monday.
I had some pH problems with my water :/ Needed to make some adjustments - just hope I didn't damage the lady too much :(
During flowering I made a few mistakes that ultimately resulted in airy buds.
Temperature control was not great. Fluctuated too much and sometimes dipped below 12 degrees celsius.
Humidity was too high during the initial flowering stage. I struggled to get it down.
pH of water was too high. I was too lazy to properly measure the pH before watering, ultimately costing me quite a lot.
Decided to harvest as there were an increase amount of amber trichomes. The bottom buds still had clear trichomes (as can be seen in one of the photos), but the higher you went up the plant, the better the cloudy % was. I didn't really want to leave it longer - out of fear of having too many amber trichomes.
Something that really baffled me is the emergence of aphids (blattläuse). Absolutely no idea where they came from. I first noticed them in Week14. Managed to get them under control and in Week16 I saw only 1 aphid.
