My next grows finally start!
I put the Purple Lemonade seed into a glass of water for a little over 2 days until the tap root showed itself.
The seed is now planted into an EazyPot. The waiting begins.
The Purple Lemonade was born today! I am out of town for 4 days so she stays in her little EazyPot for quite some time. But she'll be fine a can explode after that in her 3gal (11L) pot.
Update 22/10/24:
During the four days I was out of home, the EazyPot completely dried out. And unfortunately, the Purple Lemonade stretched a lot (maybe because of not enough substrate in the pod and that the humidity dome blocked light?) and was pinned down to the bottom because it reached the dome und pressed itself down. But with planting it inside its 3gal pot, I was able to fix the issue by planting it deep enough. Now the seedling looks almost normal and healthy :)
The seed really likes its new home. It is growing beautifully since planting it inside the 3gal (11L) pot. It had no problems with the water shortage during my out-of-home-time. I started feeding it with some stuff now that it starts growing: Root-Juice for vigorous root development and Acti-Vera for overall health and strength.
Happy Halloween!
Today, I did something really spooky (at least for me!): I topped my plant for the first time ever. It was really heartbreaking to remove the healthy, flourishing top of the plant that grows so vigorously. But I really wanted to do that to learn the technique and I think that this genetic really can adopt to it. We will see in the upcoming days if topping was a good or a bad choice.
I made sure that I do it quite early (between day 14-16) and that the plant is strong enough. As you can see in the pictures it build up 4 nodes. The stem has a thickness of 3mm which is hopefully strong enough.
I am looking forward to the next days and just hope to not have killed her, haha.
She handled the topping very well. The new leafs that came are quite funky, I don't now why. I trained the new branches down to even out the canopy. Love it, she is really strong for her age.
The Purple Lemonade is an amazing plant. She is growing very vigorously with lots of side branches. I try to have an even canopy and use LST to bend branches down. I also need to constantly defoliate to make sure that all branches get enough light. without defoliation the canopy is just full of leafs that prevent air flow. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the training. It's the first time that I topped a plant and I think that she is doing amazing. It's the last week of vegetation because she definitely entered pre-flowering. I think the stretching will begin soon.
Sooo the flowering started! She is growing extremely vigorously, need to defoliate every day. She looks very healthy, the leafs are really thick and juicy.
She is also stretching a lot. I defoliated again on day 39 to improve light penetration. I don't know how to train the plant further, some branches are just faster than others. I'm overwhelmed with her growth but that's okay since this is my first HST.
//Update 26/11/24:
I got a CalMag problem I guess.. seems to happen with BioBizz fertiliser. I did start to water with CalMag and hope that it gets better in the following week.
I think with just one watering that the CalMag problem got better. I removed some of the damaged leafs because the plant has still many of them. The buds already are purpeling, I think it can be a very beautiful pheno.
So, the problem is not yet fixed with the rusty spots on the leafs. The Purple Lemonade is the only plant out of my 3 in the tent that has this problem. Both GSC are completely, perfectly healthy. I only watered with CalMag and Silic Rock now, maybe she just needs less nutrients and the symptoms are slight burns. I'll further look into it.
Besides that, the bud sites are really purpling up right now. She is still beautiful even with the yellowing leafs.
I'm now thinking that she just ran out of nutrients because of her topping and the following vigorous growth. So I upgraded to the BioBizz feeding chart for the Light Mix. I used the feeding chart for the All-Mix because BioBizz recommends it for autoflowers.
So I think it helped to increase the fertilisation but I'm overall not really happy with how she looks. She started like a 10/10 but now with all the orange spots on fan- and sugar leafs.. she does not look really appealing to me. She is also not really frosty compared to the GSC. The purpling is amazing tho, beautiful colours on those buds. Let's finish her in the next 2-3 weeks and see how she smokes.
This is the last flower week I suppose. I really want to cut her down in the next 7 days so it's just water and cruising till then.
It really breaks my heart that I could not figure out what she was lacking. With more nutrients the leafs got better but all new sugar leafs still have the problem of rotting leafs. I really need to trim her up nicely to remove the ugly parts. I have two more seeds and want to definitely grow her again. Then I can figure out what went wrong.
It will take some time until I update the harvest week here. I'll wait with my strain rating until after drying.
I harvested partly on 04/01/25 and the rest on 07/01/25. I had some serious problems with growing this strain, hence why I only give 8/10. Still a good rating and that's because of the terps. This is the most tasty strain I ever tried. It's incredibly refreshing citrusy, sour and sweet. Like a true lemonade, the strain name is spot on. I still have 2 more seeds of this beauty so I will 100000% grow her again. Especially since I want to figure out, what went wrong. I test some stuff. Maybe next year because I have a lot of other stuff to grow in 2025.
