Late start to my grow journal but better late than never. Quick run down to play catch up on my situation. I started with a mix pack of the widow strains(Black Widow, White Widow, Chronic Widow) from ILGM and all but 2 seeds sprouted. I took the healthiest 5 plants(2 BW, 2 CW, 1 WW) for my DIY DWC/drain to waste hydroponics set up. The first few weeks were a real struggle to keep the plants healthy and avoid bacteria issues, root rot took over the only white widow and had to take extreme measures and transplant it from hydro to an airpot. Btw it is possible to transplant from hydro to coco coir, it stresses the plant but it was able to recover. I bought a 4 pack of airpots so I could transplant the WW and since I took some clones from the BW & CW, I decided to plant them in the remaining 3 airpots. So that is why my tent set up is a little crazy. Now that you have some kind of idea of whats going on inventory wise. Now onto the plant set up. Both CW's and 1 BW are tied down underneath a net for a SCROG grow, only reason I did this was to allow the other plants to catch up while I was dealing with root rot and other issues. So 3/8 plants are Scrog in hydro, 2/8 are plants that were topped and veg'd for 8 weeks(1 is hydro,1 is coco), and the remaing 3/8 plants are clones that were sent to flower a week after rooting and are in coco in airpots. I am running a 400W HPS along side of a 1500W LED, I am fully aware that the 1500W LED is not really generating that amount of power but it is a decent rated light from amazon with two light spectrum switches. Three small fans are running across the tops of the plants and one underneath moving air, plus a 6 in exhaust fan with carbon filter for constant air movement. Temperature and humidity are being controlled by digital controllers and everything is on timers. The DWC/Drain to Waste hydro set up is set up to water every 3 hours from a 15 gallon res and airpots are on timers to fresh water rinse in the middle of the week and nutrient waterings are done by hand in the beggining and end of the week. Please bare with me with this grow journal. I'm terrible at capturing my grow information and pictures but will make a better effort to share my experience. ANY AND ALL ADVICE IS WELCOMED!

Grow Questions

When using LED lighting that has the options for both Flower and Veg. I am currently in the second week of flower and have my 400W HPS and my "1500 W" LED light on and the LED is only selected for Flower. My question is, would it hurt, help or no affect if I turned Veg on too?

Turn both switches on. Im using led too. More bule from the veg. modus will minimize the stretch and at later flower phase +of light will helps to get a better yield.

As you can see in the pictures, the grow tent is super packed and full of green. Its the beginning of week 5 of flower and one of my concerns is the light not penetrating through the top. Should I defoliate or trim large fan leaves to thin it out or just let it grow?

After 4 week into flower I would not defoliate or very very very ( ×5) carefully as it could stress her , slow the flowering and lower the yield will be. You can only remove those which are blocking light to the bud sites with the better potential 😊

Will be flushing the coco plants soon and was wondering if it is a good idea to add molasses to the fresh water when flushing or should I keep it plain PH water?

I would actually recommend doing the molasses water , when flushing a plant people often forget that your removing everything from your growing medium but the plant still needs abit of stuff while it finishes up , by adding the molasses your giving your plants organic raw sugars that they will need in their final days of growth while removing any "chemical" based nutrients you have used during your grow . Anything organic never really needs to be flushed cause its organic so in your case adding molasses to your mix for its final weeks of growth will benefit you :) it will make your buds more frosty as well as add a little bit more weight ! I hope information helps you on your journey ! -Happy Growing!

Thanks! I tend to get a little camera happy but I hate when a journal doesn't have enough pictures.

It’s usually recommended by the manufacturer to turn on both during flower. As long as it’s not too close no such thing as too much light.

I would turn them both on as long as your temps don't get too high. Also it's important to note how many actual watts that 1500 LED draws.

To answer your question: In flower you should use both switches on. It will help you keep the stretch in check and will give you better yield, since it will pull more watts.

I would keep it with plain water, there are no benefits using it to flush your medium

I appreciate the advice but since the coco plants are clones that I sent straight to flower, I'm gonna see if the molasses makes a significant difference.
