Description of Strain
from Trichome Bros website at trichomebros.com
*********************
This is a remake to [amplify] some of the best characteristics of this legendary cut. Known for the lemon-lime-slushee flavor profile, Chernobyl grows with a powerful terpene profile high in limonene. The bag appeal on this strain is immediately apparent, as an overwhelmingly fruity and citrus smell will match dense, white-trichome laden calyxes and leaves. This strain will glisten when approaching peak ripeness. Nutrients need to be moderated and plants will require trellising to support the more delicate branches. Plants will jump in height during the flip to flower, sometimes 80-100% of the vegetative height. As a result, proper planning for vertical space, clearance, and light intensity will be needed.

***Germination Method***
1. Moisten two folded paper towels.
2. Place seeds between two towels and place them on a small saucer/plate.
3. Cover with a second plate and place both on a heated seedling mat.
Expect to see tap roots in 24 to 36 hours on most fresh seeds. Some may take 48 hours
I originally discovered this strain with some freebie seeds I got when ordering Cali-Mints. I planted one to fill space in a tent and it produced one of the most perfectly shaped plants, nearly on its own. I gave it to a friend that finished the veg and flower outside, and the terpene profile is one of the strongest mix of limonene, caryophyllene and Delta 3 Carene I have experienced. So I ordered twenty beans and I started with two. Both germinated in about 30 hours.

Planted in 1q pots moistened with water and clonex
2024-11-01
Seedlings fully opened at 2 inches.
2024-11-08 Transplanted to 3g Cloth Pots. Placed in 2x4 tent and begin veg feed.
Week 1 - Veg
2024-11-12 - 2024-11-19
From past experience, I've found that defoliation is necessary with this plant to keep it healthy. The vegetation is so think it is prone to disease and bud rot. This time around, I'm keeping it thinned out some, so that air can circulate around the branches.
11-12
Veg Begins: Topped both plants at the 4th node. Light veg feed around outside edge of pots to promote outward root growth.
11-17
1q veg feed top & 1q veg feed bottom
11-19
New tops are 2" long. Plants are now as wide as the 3 gal pots.
2024-11-20 to 2024-11-26
The temperatures and humidity are dropping this week. The tent these girls are in is a 2x4 MarsHydro with only a 4" ventilation system. The temps and RH is more difficult to regulate than the 5x5 tents.
11-20
1q veg feed to each (bottom feed only).
11-24
1q feed to bottoms. LST and defoliating suckers and unwanted smaller growth under the canopy.
2024-11-27 to 2024-12-02
The first time I grew Chernobyl, the plant was dense and unruly with thick, lush vegetation. In fact, the plant took up so much room in my tent that I have it to a friend to finish outdoor. It showed signs of bud rot early in the flowering period and luckily, most of it was saved from itself. In addition, the stems of this strain are more hollow and brittle, gaining thickness quickly and making Low Stress Training a difficult task that requires patience when working the branches around the LST clips. I have broken many branches on a Chernobyl plant even when applying care and caution. It requires getting the plant to the shape and size you need early, so that silica can be added to strengthen the branches in prep for those killer nugs.
They are taking about .5 gallons of feed every other day.
2024-12-03 to 2024-12-09
It is remarkable how much vegetation this strain puts on. I believe I could fill a single 5x5 tent with just one of these in a 5 gal pot and still not have enough room.
I've also noted the strong smell coming from a handful of crushed leaves.
The weather has been all over the place this week and will be for the foreseeable future. Therefore, I "shrunk" the grow space down to 1/3 of its original size with insulated partitions and added an infrared space heater to control the external environment. I've seen low temps outside of 25 degrees and the grow room has stayed about 60. With the cooler temps, the plants are consuming less water/nutrients than normal, but the growth rate has slowed as well.
2024-12-10 to 2024-12-16
One final defoliation and some LST this week and I will be flipping to flower. Chernobyl is noted to stretch around 100% of its veg size, which would put this plant close to 4' tall when finished. That is about the max height I want my plants to allow headroom for appropriate light distance.
12-11 Day 29
LST, defoliate; 1q feed @ bottom. From the defoliation, I am taking cuttings to add to the OxyClone machine for the next batch. I think I will also take one of the clones and do a seed grow by feminizing some pollen.
12-12 Day 30
1q feed to top of plant
2024-12-17 to 2024-12-23
Flip-to-Flower week. I selected the best of the two plants and moved her to the flowering/seeding tent. She will hopefully be crossed with a feminized Chemdog cut of exceptional quality that is in that same tent.
12-18 Day 01/36
Flipped plant #2 to flower. .5gal Bloom feed.
12-20 Day 3/38
Showing very early signs of nutrient burn (nitrogen) on two leaves. Will apply two flush feedings (water only). It is obvious I will not be able to feed Chernobyl as heavily as Chemdog.
.5gal water
2024-12-24 to 2024-12-30
Chernobyl is known to stretch quite a bit before flowering. Flowers have still yet to develop by the end of this 2nd week of flower.
More LST to spread the canopy, as well as some defoliation/lollypopping. The VPD has been off due to the weather wreaking havoc on my lung room environment. The weather forecast for the next couple of weeks look colder and drier, which allows me to control the lung room environment much easier.
12-26 Day 09/44
.5 gal feed
2024-12-31 to 2025-01-06
This plant has taken on the most potent lemon-lime smell I have ever seen from any cultivar. The sativa genetics are making for some nice stacking.
Pollination: I have cross-pollinated this plant with a special cut of Chemdog, as seen in one of my other grows. The Chemdog cut I named CD#2, and used it to produce clones and pollen donors.
2025-01-07 to 2025-01-13
At the end of this week, I prepared for a couple of weeks of extreme cold weather (for the Ozarks) and added a small grow tent heater to help get the VPD dialed in a bit better. Hopefully, we can hit the sweet spot next week.
The plant continues to stretch. The calyxes are popping out white and ready to receive some pollen.
2024-01-14 to 2025-01-20
I cut back on the silica blast this week to get the PPM readings down to 1100 and that was not easy, as this girl is drinking like a barfly. I've pollinated with the Chemdog #2 pollen from a previous grow. Check my other diaries for Chemdog.
2025-01-21 to 2025-01-27
This week, she really put on the lemon-lime smell of Chernobyl. I've pollinated her (once again) with Chemdog #2 pollen from a previous grow. I'm looking for a "stay lifted" effect, as both of these cultivars have. But, I'm hoping for more of the earthiness to come through from the Chemdog in the potential seeds that are produced.
