Day 13 from seed. This plant was repotted yesterday, primarily Sunshine Soil #4 with a weak mix of sheep manure compost and worm castings.
In an effort to combat temperatures with my other grows I turned off the oscillator fan, cut my external ventilation by about half, installed two indirect fluroescents (2x80W) to provide heat, and moved the plants about ten inches closer to the light.
Day 20 from seed. I turned the oscillator fan back on and all my plants seem relieved. The increase in temperature and humidity (and decrease of external ventilation) has benefitted all the plants. My grow space is 6’ x 4’, which is a little big, but I have the fan and a small homemade clone tent out of frame. The fluroescents are only adding heat and indirect light.
Day 28 from seed. I’ve tied down the main stem and starting to snake the plant along the soil. I want to maximize room and keep the plant short as the main stem gains size. I selectively defoliated leaves that were underneath the bend, or laying on the soil. Looks a but droopy because I just watered.
Day 38 from seed.
This plant started to show signs of overwatering, or deficiency, or what I suspect is light intensity/heat stress. All my veg. tent plants suddenly looked tired, stressed, etc. It could be a variety of things but after debating over a lengthy vape session Max Pointy eventually said, “well... you have to do something.” So I moved everything to the original height. I unfortunately have stunted the growth in any case and will have to take extra veg. time to hopefully recover.
Day 42 from seed. The indica plants in my veg. tent took the light stress the worst. The Black Indica was severely slowed if not stunted completely. I am being very patient and am not discouraged, I have faith that some new, green growth will appear. LED light intensity seems to be quite damaging.
Day 50 from seed. It has been a long road of recovery from light stress. First it was a few weeks of silently damaging this plant, and then time to recover. At that point it started to look deficient, possibly deficient from the light stress, and I applied 21-8-14 Miracl Gro All Purpose plant food. It responded nicely and is regaining green, its alive! It looks much healthier.
Unlike Hash Plant 2019 (I), this plant hasn’t had many crowded stalks worthy of cloning. It didn’t suffer from the same blotched/dying leaves as Hash Plant (I), but it does have a little bit of damage now.
Day 63 from seed. This plant has recovered to the point where I was confident enough to defoliate/lollipop. It has 4+ weeks to recover so there is no rush.
Before the transplant to the larger final pot I fed some 24-8-16 Miracle Gro All Purpose plant food.
Day 78 from seed.I’m calling an audible and throwing this beauty into flower. I have a backlog and want to start rotating plants through. It had regained all its green and isn’t that bad size wise. Can’t wait to see it stretch. Because this wasn’t planned I haven’t transitioned its food yet and it has only been fed 24-8-16 Miracle Gro All Purpose plant food.
Day 85 from seed. One week of flowering done. This strain seems similar to Hash Plant, quick to stretch and looking good. I transitioned to 18-18-21 Miracle Gro Tomato plant food.
Day 92 from seed. Two weeks of flowering complete. Everything is going well. Its just been a bit of water since last feed and I am ready to begin flowering food. I majorly defoliated/lollipopped the branches. This plant looks identical to Hash Plant in terms of strain, but of my two plants this one is more vigorous and has stretched more.
Day 99 from seed, three weeks of flowering complete. The day timeline of Hash Plant (I) or Black Indica (I) is wrong... oh well. I recently fed this plant 0.1-0-5 Earth Alive Big Blue Alga Liquid Seaweed, everything looks fine.
Max Pointy and I have been researching the light spectrum, and the specs of the large grow lights, and elected to purchase some yellow/red spectrum LED light bulbs to flesh out the flowering range. It fills in a noticeable drop in spectrum of the large light. They have a 16 actual wattage rating each, so I added 80W (One bulb was a dud, I will be looking to add one more to make six). The plants seem to have responded well and are producing buds at a seemingly faster rate. With timing its hard to gauge the benefits until i grow a few more plants.
Day 106 from seed, four weeks of flowering complete. About four more weeks to go. This is the plant that likes my flowering conditions the most it seems as its best days have been the last four weeks. The rotation is nearing another feeding this coming week.
The buds smell like very sweet fruit/flowers, more sweet comparative to the Strawberry Cough.
Day 113 from seed. Five weeks of flowering complete, three weeks to go. This is a new favorite strain. It is an indica but it is growing and packing weight similar to my sativas. The smell is just unreal sweet/fruity. Very nice. I fed Wholesome organic blackstrap shortly after last week, and most recently fed 0-10-10 Alaskan Morbloom today (opposite ends of the week).
Day 120 from seed. Six weeks of flowering complete, two to go! I am in the last waterings/flush. This plant took and held onto nutrients beautifully. I have never grown Black Indica before, but I suspect the massive lollipopping/defoliation hurt yield. Regardless, the buds have still swollen and are nice and frosty. The smell is unreal sweet/fruity/tangy.
I am preparing for future generations that require larger pots or more room, so that involved lowering the plants down.
Day 128 from seed. Seven weeks of flowering complete. One week to go! Booya. This strain has seriously impressed. I can’t wait for it to try the vape test. I will do a flush before harvest and probably snap one last update. Almost there, steady as she goes..
Day 134 from seed. Eight weeks of flowering done, flush complete. 24 hours of darkness. Harvest time! Here is a sneak peek. I am excited for this strain specifically.
This strain turns out to be a pretty good, modern indica with an above average yield compared to other indicas (other Crop King indicas). Its stretch period was quite unexpected and it seemed to swell nicely. Black Indica also had no troubles taking nutrients.
This plant suffered severe light damage early on, and had quite an extended vegetative stage. Black Indica bounced back faster that other Crop King indicas in the same conditions.
Growing was an absolute pleasure as the sweet bud smell was intoxicating. The final product puts off a sweet/sour vibe, but ultimately the flavour isn’t overpowering or notable. The effects are certainly indica but isn’t concussive in strength, most would opt for a sativa in this case. Potency seems to be a trade off for yield for this indica.
I’d recommend growing Black Indica, but I will continue to experiment with Crop King varieties. (It should be noted I have another Black Indica grow that may change my rating).
No issues with harvest.
35 grams is a modest yield for a noob so I was happy to top an ounce. Obviously I want to improve that. Lollipopping/stripping everything but the top crown was a mistake, I went too far and really hurt the yield. Otherwise it was sort of a mixed bag - I felt Black Indica had major potential, but the lack of potency really brought me back down to Earth. If the flavour was overwhelming that would compensate but the intense smell wasn’t as pronounced as expected while vaping.
I’m open to trying to grow more Black Indica.
Reading your diary is like looking 2 weeks into the future! Great looking plants, can't wait to see your harvest report! Black Indica is a fantastic strain to grow, yeah?
