Sowed my next grow today. Placed one seed in a starter plug soaked in recharge.
Edit 12/3/24: seedling emerged from the plug today and looks good! Will let grow for a few days and then will transplant to a cup.
Transplanted solo cup seedling to 5 gallon pot and set her up in the 2x2 from the nursery. I hadn’t watered in a few days so the soil/root mass crumbled a bit during the transplant but I was gentle so hopefully the roots were not damaged. Seedling grew well in the nursery, which was nice.
She grew well her first week of veg after transplanting to her final home in a 5 gallon pot. Supplementing with extra cal mag for now still and using recharge once a week.
She’s been growing well this week. I’ve been increasing the intensity of the light over the week to the next level.
I topped her this week, and she’s been responding well since. I supplemented with cal mag this week still but am done with that until I flip the lights to 12-12.
Plant grew well this week. Will plan on having a scrog net around 10” over the soil line, so I’ll likely place it in the next few days as the nodes continue to grow. Temps are hovering between 71-72 during the day.
I was planning on flipping the lights next week but I think I may give her an extra week to allow the branches to fill the net and I don’t think she’ll grow enough in the next week for what I’d like.
Set up the net and started to scrog. Was planning on flipping to flower today but decided to let her veg a few more days to get the net a bit better established before she starts to stretch. Defoliated and removed all of the lower nodes. I’ll likely flip in a few days after she’s recovered.
Decided to flip the lights to 12-12 a few days after my last entry based on how full the canopy was with the plant still in veg. I’ve kept the canopy under the net pretty aggressively and she’s responding well. I’ve begun bumping up the light intensity for 30 minutes a day to slowly boost the DLI until she’s big enough for me to leave the light up permanently. I plan on keeping the scrog going almost the entire three weeks of stretch, as my last grow I let off too early and the canopy was messier than I wanted after it was all said and done.
Flowering continued this week. Plant is stretching but I continue to tuck all of the tops and new growth under the net. Conditions are pretty dialed in. I’m supplementing cal mag still and will do so for another week until the stretch is done.
Continued keeping new growth horizontal under the net. Today (day 20F) I stopped tucking and will let the flowers grow up from here on. I continue to water every other day, and feeding recharge once a week.
I’ve been defoliating lightly the past few days, taking fan leaves that were blocking flowers. Today, I gave a heavier defoliation, more aggressively removing blocking leaves and removed any lower buds that were not reaching the light to avoid any larf in my harvest.
Flowers grew nicely this week. I defoliated throughout the week to keep all of the flowers open to the light. No calcium deficiencies that I can see yet, so tbe plan is working so far!
Largely a maintenance week. Watered every other day, once a week with recharge. I removed most of the remaining lower fan leaves this week because they were getting sad and wilty underneath the canopy.
Canopy ended up pretty even. Not perfect, but the most uneven parts are a few taller colas around the edges, so they actually are getting a similar amount of light because they aren’t directly under the light.
Plant grew as expected this week. Lower fan leaves that remained under the canopy started fading hard. I removed ones that showed damage but left the ones that are just yellowing for now. I don’t think it’s a nutrient or ph issue as the canopy leaves, buds, and sugar leaves are all looking good as far as I can tell.
I’m going to up my watering frequency the next week or so as the buds are reaching peak growth. I’ll taper down to every other day again if I notice any negative effects.
Today is day 48 of flower. Buds are growing nicely. The lower fan leaves that were left are senescing and turning yellow. Most have proceeded to fall off naturally, like fall leaves on a tree. The upper fans, sugar leaves, and buds all appear completely normal still and are not stressed at all so I’m not concerned it’s anything but normal fall colors. I’m liking the nice colors! I haven’t gotten any pictures that do them justice so I haven’t included any in my uploads.
Plant continues to mature. I’ve been moving the light up slowly, one click a day or so, to lower the light intensity and help promote finishing. Fan leaves are senescing intensively the past week and I’ve been removing them as they get eaten up by the plant.
She seems to have slowed down with eating up her fan leaves this week, but that’s because a lot of them have been pulled or fallen off. I’ve done some research into 4K on Rasta Jeff’s discord, and it looks like the pheno I’m growing is extra hungry around six weeks of flower, which checks out. Based on the feedback there and my own observations, I’m guessing there’s at least a week or two left.
Smell is great. Buds are super greasy, and your hand will be sticky just pulling fan leaves off. I’m excited to try this one out. Buds are looking good, and are starting to really fatten up.
Approaching the end of week ten of flower, today is day 69. Fan leaves are looking pretty hungry/faded, and I’m glad she’s almost done. She’s looking pretty ragged here at the end, but should pull through until she’s ready for the chop. I’ve been checking trichomes and am seeing a mix of clear and cloudy, but amber only on sugar leaves so I will continue to let her mature longer. Folk online have reported 4K phenos running 78+ days so this is not surprising.
Day 76 of flower. I’ve been checking trikes for the past few weeks every day. Today they appeared to be almost all cloudy, with a few amber and almost none still clear. Based on that and not wanting to push the remaining fan leaves all the way until they get crispy or rotten down to the buds, I think I’m going to give her the chop tomorrow on day 77F.
I constructed a home made cannatrol-type device (a wine fridge with a controllable dehumidifier) a few months ago, so my plan is to buck off the buds from the branches onto the fridge racks and dry them on a glide path using the dehumidifier levels over ten days. Once I trim and weigh out the final yield, I may end up pressing any mids and trim into flower rosin as I’ve been digging that a lot lately.
Harvested today. Growth was pretty straight forward, except this phenotype got really hungry around 6 weeks of flower and I wasn’t prepared for that.
Additional hindsight, I should have stopped tucking tops under the net about a week earlier.
Decided to harvest today based on trichome coloring and bud development. Plant flowered for 77 days total. Bucked buds from branches and set on shelves in my homemade drying fridge. I plan on drying for at least 10 days and leaving buds in the fridge for curing once conditions have reached 60 and 60 (degrees and relative humidity).
