Just starting out new seeds. I plan on using this journal throughout my grow. Over the year I had to deconstruct and reconstruct my microgrow facility, forcing me to take my prim indoor and make it shady outdoor. Good thing I had the opportunity to backcross my Canaanite strain(Mendo creme x purple Sherpa). I hope by growing alongside spilanthis will again bring forth the minty menthe cream flavor of the Mendo creme. The build color and overall odor should resemble the Purple Sherpa, with crimson underleave and rose purple and confetti color bud, as it did outdoor. However I have high hopes the fall coloring and terpine profile will remain constant through this long growing flower. Since I grow in Michigan and our natural climate is unfavorably cold over the last few grows I have conditioned the parents to slow grow in a cold and dry climate, so before I get people hitting me up on the low veg temps, it has a purpose. I grow in a isolation microgrow. It’s a custom build very few go to the extent to build. My plants are grow in custome built isolation cabinets and get shuffled around from one environment to another and provided with the essential light and climate the strain needs for each cycle of its life. I maintain a dry climate cause as you will see my plants are loved like children, they are fed by root drench and have several foliage applications per week throughout the entirety of their lives. The dry climate is beneficial as it provide a “mountain top” like climate and positive pressure to the plants. I’ve found with my experience so far adding the positive pressure to your climate tends to speed trichromes development, and gives the plant enough air pressure resistance to form uniquely tight and uniform buds. As for anything else to expect from this journal, I do minimal pruning, sometimes dabble with low stress training, and I tend to breed at least one of my crop or harvest pollen etc from males for breeding purposes. ALSO I’m strictly a VEGAN grower. My primary job is with chemicals and I have no interest introducing even synthetic micronutrients to a crop, heavy metals are bogus so try to stay away from them...I will also have two more journals in the coming months on flowering(vegan), synthetically vegged plants, and two other homebrew strains I’m working on, Wiseman (red dragon x Amherst Sour Diesel) and Amura(feathered serpent) (red dragon x Mendo Cream).
This week seedlings have grown significantly in the soil/cubes. Leaves are out and cotlydons have emerged and the first set of leaves are developing on the seedlings. By the end of this next period I will have transplanted into Dixie cups, and later into smart pots. I’ve got 2 big bags of Cyco Coco Pearl. Around the 28th-3rd of March I will begin bacterial inoculations, and foliage sprays with Vegamatrix FTB as a preventative for any chewing/sucking pests. I’ve used FTB regularly and it’s worth the time. I use a 4 gallon Lesco Professional Backpack Sprayer usually, but I’ll probably settle for a bottle mister this time. I expect by the end of this week I will be seeing the beginning of the first set of true leaves, only time can tell. The strain is showing well across the board so far, the cooler dry climate has chapped the leaves in a few spots but nothing some time and adjustments won’t help. The next two weeks of their life they will remain in this cooler drier climate. And then things will begin to change.
New week! Plants finally reached veg! All 9. The serpent is the only plant behind schedule. I did my one gallon transplant on 5/9 plants to see if there is a difference with the transplant on week one compared to week 2. Other than that holding good temps with just light heat in the 15/30 degree outside temps.
Week 4 since the seeds were sown. Two weeks of clean water and now the final week of low dose nutrients will begin to conclude. A lot has happened in the last 7 days. And now everyone is snuggled up nicely in their very own 1 gallon smart pot. After transplant and inoculations I gave them a feeding and splashed my bioactive nutrients in the lower leaves, yeah their are probable gonna die faster than they should, I also may have just have overdosed them little by not going with the lower seedling doses supposed to. *”Note to self: stop being a doosh, follow the simple rules!” *This is the second week of “true veg” and I will slowly begin increasing my daily temps after this week. After this week concludes and we’re on to next week I’m excited as week 3-5 hold the most growth of vegation. It won’t be long before they enter a new environment and begin the last stages of Veg and their beginning stages of flowering. These plants were grown from seed I created with controlled pollination. They have been backcrossed once and now my own genetics. Or wisely on the way to being. They are crafted with feminized pollen(collected from the hermaphroditic mom/dad). And so far this principle hasn’t led to a single male...knock on wood. These strains have taken as long as 13-14 weeks to fully mature after flower but end their life with a vibrant shade of colors and crescendo of trichromes. On occasion the strain produces purple or crimson laced trichromes. I don’t know what causes it but it’s an amazing sight under a scope before cloudiness begins. The foliage can range from a light whitish underleaf and a vibrant green top or the #2 indica dominate phenome occasionally takes on a dark forest green top leaf and a vibrantly purple underleaf. Also I don’t know if it’s a nutrient, but I like to think so....these ladies are grown with a lot of love through vibrations by Trevor hall, stick figure, mike love, Nahko, soja, tribal seeds, Marley, sublime and oh, so much reggae. What vibes do you feed your plants?
This week I battles with novice struggles. Forgetting to adjust my ph, effectively locking out micro nutes, and slowing my growth/damaging some foliage in the process. This was a counterproductive week, however the plants came through struggle fine with minimal permanent damage. Overall after getting everything into larger pots allowing me to increase watering volumes and slow the drying out process the plants are responding good to their environment. By the close of this week they had filled in significantly from their previous homes.
This week was average. Watering and recoup from last weeks mistakes was central stage. Continued to apply my foliar products, ftb to prevent pests, hard and quick for plant stability, and phyre to replace my vss foliar treatments. Plants growth continued from its slowdown and built up to some rapid growth by weeks end.
Having an issue with the website, it’s trying to repeat all my uploads. So forgive the repeat pics (the first 4) from last week. This week was going good until a couple of my plants started showing signs of cal/mag deficiency. Got the problem corrected but it also became a problem with a couple from my other diary (white widow/grand daddy puprs)
Leading me to believe this is another issue with ph balanced water. The struggles working with rich hard water. It pays off in the end for the abundance of nutrients naturally available however can lead to these kind of hiccups. Probs solves once again and plants are doing well. I put one in flower early to see cause I just couldn’t wait, it’s in flower with several from my other diary. It’s the center plant in the yellow box.
This week I corrected my ph problems, plant grew vigorously and were prepared for flower. Final transplants will be in the next two weeks for some, one has already been placed in, and the other 8 are still in 1 gallons. Switched to week 1 flowering, still applying foliar treatments weekly.
This week I added big and sticky pk booster to the feeding schedule. Only for 1 plant, that’s in the second week of flower. All the rest are currently at week 1 end of flowering and have shown preflowers. From my regular Canaanite seed 5 were female, 4 were male. Average odds for regular seed. I’m happy with the results, the boys will go out back for the season to be put back into veg and I will use these for new seeds and pollen. Also I will be concentrating these plants in hopes of getting some cbd...time will tell. For the time being I have 2 Canaanite #2 and 3 canaanite #1. TO AVOID Confusion #2 will be referred to as WISEMAN. These plants should begin budlet development early next week as their sister moves on to week three with my other grow of grand daddy purps, and white widow.
Sorry for skipping a week. A lot happened during plant sexing. Firstly 4 of the original 9 Canaanite plant were mail. So gives me close 60% female from my seeds which is good. I kicked around the idea of revegging these and growing them outside for the season to collect some male pollen, but ultimately cut them down. Some other time, when I have more time, I will make a male plant growing diary along with pollen collection harvest.
But not right now. As the week progressed another bad sign. My original base strains hermaphrodite trait is not gone. I found two of my plants to exhibit signs of true hermaphroditism. I removed the male parts promptly and they are under close monitoring and scrutiny. Out of the 9 Canaanite I plants only 1 has shown to be a tried and true female. I may force pollinate this plant or I may just let her be to get the full effect of what I’ve created. As for the remaining 2, my most beautiful Canaanite plant hermaphrodited due to heat stress. I’m growing this strain along with white widow and pushed my temperatures too high for the Canaanite. It’s herm head reared and now I’m left with 3, 1 true female, two true hermaphrodites. AS of now I haven’t had any issues with bananas or pollination, that I’m aware of. Though I am diligently searching daily to avoid any more problems. When this batch is through I plan to clean up, and stick to one strain at a time flowering as it’s too hard to flower a variety with one environment.
This week was leading up to further disappointment when I realized, my canaanite seeded. I removed the pest plants and continued on, guess I won’t have sensi this harvest, but I have a new strain addition with white widow. I will have to get some pollen now, maybe shock grow one of the others to get some feminized pollen for backcrossing the next generation. The point of this Canaanite plant is to spread a gentic. Just as the ancients spread their words and gods. Anyhow things are progressing, but next week and the following is where it’s at
Overall this grow was plagued by issues sadly, a lot of the grow was tossed aside, used for pollen collections, or used to pass forward genetics. Hopefully my next round with my strain will Heigl’s more impressive results and more updates in a timely fashion. Overall was a good learning experience for growing and breeding alike and as always the Canaanite is teaching me how to be better in many ways!
