The seeds germinated.
I had to leave them on the heater (set to 2) for a few hours for heat.
Planted the seeds in BioBizz Light Mix soil.
The soil itself is a little too wet, should not water at all.
The lighting cycle is set to 18 on, 6 off at 60%.
Target temperature set to 25C (all), target humidity 50% (blower & fan).
## SUMMARY
Repotted the plants since they were showing signs of nutrient deficiency. The roots were struggling inside the starter cups.
## OBSERVATIONS
1. The soil in the starting cups was not compacted enough, it was way too loose and the roots were having trouble.
2. The starting cups were not big enough.
3. Next time try to directly germinate and grow them in these larger fabric pots from seed to avoid the mess, shouldn’t cause an issue to the health of the plant.
4. There’s too much limescale content in the tap water for the humidifier, causing the pre-filter to constantly get clogged.
## CURRENT GROW BOX CONFIG
1. Exhaust - Automated Trigger @ Level 1 26C
2. Humidifer - Automated Trigger @ Level 1 0.8 VPD
3. Fan - Cycle @ Level 1 - 15/5
4. Lights - Schedule @ Level 6 - 18/6
## NEW LAYERED LIVING SOIL
Compacted Biobizz All-Mix on the bottom half of the pot, and Biobizz Light-Mix on the top half of the pot. Then watered the pots and allowed them to sit in the tent for 48 hours allowing excess water to drain into self-watering bases.
## RE-POTTING
When re-potting added a few mg of RootMax powder to help the roots with the stress. Checking the soil health the pH level was at 8,5.
## WATERING
1. Mixed in 1-2 ml/l of Biobizz Root Juice and sprinkled a little water around the edges of the pot on the soil.
2. Setup the automatic watering bases and filled them up with pH-neutral water (6,0-7,0).
## OBSERVATIONS
The plants are growing healthily after re-potting.
The soil pH was around 8.0 in both pots - I suspect calcium buildup in the soil from before I fitted the water filter is hindering the self-regulating behavior of the Biobizz soil.
## MAINTENANCE
1. Cleaned the watering bases and refilled them together with Root Juice and Bio-Grow (pH 5.5).
2. To help reduce the soil pH further I added a top layer of damp fine blonde peat (~2cm) and watered ~1L per pot (pH 5.5) also containing Bio-Grow (0.5-1ml/L).
3. I used the same water from (2) above for the humidifier.
## CONFIGURATION
1. Increased VPD to between 0.8-1.2 kPa.
2. Reduced light intensity to 5 - 50cm from leaf tip.
3. Reduced the inline blower’s target high humidity to 70%.
The tent now maintains between 24-26C during the day schedule.
Both plants have grown significantly over the past week. George's growth looks stunted - starting LST next week should help promote growth.
Snipped the central leaf bud on both plants and a few leaves near the bottom that the light no longer reaches.
Re-filled the auto-watering bases with the root juice + bio grow solution, pH 6.0 - 6.5.
Maintaining controller configuration - the humidifier has plenty of water left.
Topped and defoliated the plants and started LST. Might be too little too late at this point for George, but will try to get the little guy to pull through.
Started a clone from a branch that accidentally snipped off during defoliation.
Increased root and grow nutrients for George over the last week (4ml/l) while maintaining normal levels for Jerry (1ml/l). Used the trellis netting and plant wires to tie down the branches for LST. Trimmed the larger fan leaves every other day to allow light penetration.
George’s root and stem system seems to be getting stronger (seeing little white root tips poking out of the pot) after the boost in nutrients.
The plan is to switch to flowering next week, so started adding 0,5ml/l of bloom nutrients to both plants over the last couple of days.
- Removed all bio nutrients and only provided pH balanced water for the last 2 days of vegetation.
- Georgina (formerly George) has now reached the same height as Geraldine (formerly Jerry).
- Switched to flowering nutrients at 2ml/l
- Switched to a 12:12 light schedule
- Having a hard time maintaining RH below 50% at night, so configuring it at 60% for the time being.
- Added the trellis net again to let the branches
- Maintaining daytime VPD between 1.0 - 1.2
- Getting harder to maintain low humidity at night, averaging around 60% (0.8 VPD)
- Noticed that the roots on both have breached the top soil
- Added 12ml of nutrients each to 7L of pH neutral water
- Both plants are absorbing around 3,5L of water each every 2 days
Defoliated around 20% of the bottom growth of fan leaves and a few buds to promote growth in the main branches.
Both seem to be doing well, now averaging around 3L per 4 days.
The water absorption rate has reduced quite a bit - now going on 4L per 5 days.
Daytime humidity fluctuates between 46-53%. Nighttime humidity remains between 55-61%.
Trichomes have started to develop around the bud sites.
The strength of the smell has reduced significantly.
Georgina doesn’t seem to be drinking a lot of water, not sure if it’s that or a muddy deposit has formed in the auto-watering base. Not even sure how to clean the base at this point since the trellis net is supporting both plants, and cleaning the bases will be a bit of a chore.
The leaves seemed to be suffocating the bottom parts of both plants, so did a light-medium defoliation.
The buds smell good, trichome production is continuing.
For the last week I kept the dehumidifier turned off. VPD is now set to 1,0-1,5. Daytime humidity remains below 50%, night time humidity is still a problem.
Pre-flowers seem to be developing normally and pistils are still visible. Not seeing any bud development yet, but, fingers crossed, will happen soon as we head into late flowering🤞
Georgina is still drawing less water than Geraldine. I removed a handful of leaves that were blocking the undergrowth.
Both are maintaining their height at 58cm.
